Chapter One
Lynn's POV
I wandered the streets of New York, watching lonely Ghosts passing by with their loved ones. They try everything they can to get them to realize that they're there, but it never works.
I haven't always been able to see Ghosts; there was a time when I was normal, but after I turned 10 years old is when I became-to put it nicely- a gifted person. After that, I started seeing Ghosts and had become, what people like me call, a Ghost Seeker. Ghost Seekers help Ghosts pass to the other side once they've made peace with what was holding them back for so long. Problem is: when they pass through, you have to make sure you don't let anything in or out.
There's these dark creatures called Soul Eaters that hunt down people like me to kill us all off so then they can feast for an eternity on the human souls on this earth. What happens, is if they pass through a Ghost Seeker, they will eat their soul and the Ghost Seeker will die and just be wandering the world for eternity, never being able to pass through to the other side. Ghost Seekers have special souls that Soul Eaters can survive off of for years and not have to feast on another soul until the last year is up which is why we are their first target. It's still unknown on how to stop a Soul Eater, so if you ever see one, run.
Creepy, I know.
Apparently, I'm the youngest Ghost Seeker to ever live and we've been around for a very long time. So, I'm kind of famous. A lot of Ghost Seekers like me, a lot don't. Honestly, I don't care. I just focus on my job. Yes, only my job, because my job is my life. I can't have a normal life like most people and that's because Ghosts are everywhere. I can barely change without a Ghost trying to watch me, so I became very skilled in changing and showering.
Being as famous as I am makes me wonder why the Soul Eaters haven't found me yet? It makes no sense to me, but I'm fine with it because I don't exactly want to run into one.
I entered into my apartment where I found my Ghost roommate, Zoe, chilling on the couch.
"Hey, Zoe." I said as she waved at me.
"Hey." She said.
"Have you seriously just been watching tv this whole time?" I asked her and she shrugged before picking up the remote and turning it off.
Yeah, a plus to being a Ghost: you can touch things. Oh, and a plus to being a Ghost Seeker: you can touch Ghosts.
Zoe sat up and looked back at me. "So, how was it out there? Still Ghost-y?" She asked me and I sighed with a nod.
"Yeah. It's sad watching all of these Ghosts following their loved ones around." I replied as I took my leather jacket off and placed it onto the back of the couch.
"Mm." Zoe hummed in response.
I honestly don't know much about Zoe, other than she died at 25 and would be turning 46 this year, but that's all I know about her. That, and her name. She's still a mystery to me, and I've known her since I started renting the apartment when I was 18 which was 5 years ago.
"So, any Ghosts come by?" I asked her as I grabbed a cream soda from my fridge.
"No, actually. Guess today is your day off." Zoe smiled.
"Day off?" I scoffed. "Not likely."
I walked over and sat next to her on the couch, turning the tv back on.
"Alright, well, I'm gonna go out." Zoe said and I just looked over at her and smirked.
"You mean, go stalk that cute guy?" I asked her and she rolled her eyes.
"Shut up, Lynn." Zoe said, sarcastically, walking through a wall.
"Great come back, Zo!" I called to her and all I see is a hand come through the wall and flip me off, making me laugh.
