Chapter Twenty-Six

Ezra stepped between Peter and Abigail, fearing that there could be a huge fight that would break out—and they didn't need to lose. He jumped on them for wanting to argue at a time like this, while Althea remained silent, like she was planning something. Turning his attention away from Althea, he focused more on Peter and Abigail.

"You two need to knock it off!" Ezra exclaimed. "Right now, we don't have time for petty arguing. We need to focus on trapping Mammon before she makes things worse for all of us."

"He's right," Althea said, making everyone in the room turn. "I've got a plan. we need to find a good place to trap the demon."

Ezra looked through her mind and realized where she wanted to take the battle. It would take place at the old library. It was on campus. Not only that, but there were also over a hundred portals in and around the campus, some of which were too dangerous for a normal human being.

"There is only one place we could take this, and I know that it's a long shot and probably dangerous. But how about the Lym Parkton building?"

At first, no one said anything, until Ezra stepped forward and told everyone that they needed to be wary in case something went wrong.

*~*~*

Hunting down an angel and his mortals was going to be harder than Mammon expected. Half the time, he kept running into other people, thinking it was the angel or someone else. Celestial University, through the eyes of his host, had been a cakewalk. Of course, he didn't reveal who he was; otherwise, people would know all about hm. Even his host had been the perfect person to take control of. She was full of malice. Anger, hatred, even pride. The poor woman struggled with abuse and thought that hanging with the Servants of Evil would help her out when it did not. She wanted to cover up her sorrow and hoped that maybe someone might care for her the way she wanted it. But she had a need to prove herself to those around her.

"This poor sap," Mammon laughed wickedly. "No parents to care about her, least of all friends. I know everything that happens around this campus and the first thing I need to do is hunt down that girl and her angel." He turned to find a small child staring at him with brown eyes and her face was sticky with ice cream. The child didn't go to the school; she was only here with her parents.

"What are you looking at, kid?!" Mammon's voice rose a few octaves, causing the kid to back away and run after his mother.

"Mommy! Mommy!" the child exclaimed. Mammon rolled his eyes and continued through the campus, until he noticed the familiar dark brown hair bobbing in the wind.

"You can't run from me that easily," Mammon said and chased after the individual.

*~*~*

Of all the things that Abigail had to do, running wasn't in her resume. Sure, she ran sometimes, but half the time it was a struggle. When Ezra and Althea glanced at her, she didn't expect to become the bait. She kept arguing about how she didn't want to be the bait, but if she got stuck doing it, then Althea better give her some say in the matter. The upside was that they gave her a dark brown wig that made it look like she was Althea.

"You've got to be kidding me," she said. "You're telling me I have to go out there in a damn wig and make it look like you?"

"Hey, do you have a better idea?" Althea asked.

"Maybe she's scared," Peter taunted. Abigail glared at him, angry. She wanted so desperately to attack him, but it made things harder.

"What he means is," Ezra said, preventing any sort of fight from breaking out. "We'll be right there beside you. Do not be afraid: Remember, they can smell fear."

"The hell they can!" Abigail exclaimed. "I'm not afraid of a sorry excuse for demons."

"Remember to lead him to the library. We'll be there and trap him," Althea said.

Abigail rolled her eyes and turned to leave the dormitory. It didn't take long for Abigail to stumble across Mammon. He or She whichever way the demon wanted to be considered, had been searching for them. This time, with the dark brown wig on her head, Abigail acted like Althea. Of course, she continued to grumble to herself, saying that next time, Althea was going to do it. Not long after she got to the center of the campus did, she find Mammon. Abigail watched as a young child with his mother stared at the demon with fear.

"What are you looking at, kid?!" Mammon exclaimed. The kid cried and called after his mother in a fit of fear.

"Bastard..." Abigail said to herself.

Right on cue, she came out from hiding around the corner and took off for the old library. Behind her, she heard Mammon calling to her. Not taking any chances, she ran as fast as she could and got inside the old library, taking the stairs two at a time. She ran down and got to the abandoned basement. Thankfully, Peter, Althea, and Ezra were almost done getting the demon trap ready.

"Guys, quickly! He's coming!" She jumped over the trap and helped her friends pull the rug over it. The group hid in corners of the room as Mammon ran inside, and unknowingly stepped on the demon trap just as the lights came on.

"What's this?!" Mammon exclaimed, his voice deepening.

"That's a demon trap. You're stuck," Ezra said with a smirk.

"You tricked me!" Mammon yelled. Abigail removed her wig. "If I didn't want to rip your throat out right now, I would be proud of you."

"Oh, shut up," Abigail said. "You may be feared in the underworld, but here, you're nothing more than a soulless jerk using a young woman as a meat suit."

"Why you!" Mammon started, and attempted to attack the group, but he could not move. "What are you planning to do to me?!"

"Send you back to where you came from," Althea chimed in.
