Chapter Twenty-One
Ezra and Althea walked out of the dorm room as Abigail made her way over, thinking that everything was going to be okay. Her facial features changed, and she frowned. Ezra remained silent, knowing that Althea wasn't the only one who was stubborn. He had been with the girls, sometimes while invisible, for a good while, and the two were the same.
Ezra crossed his arms, wondering how long it would take before Althea and Abigail walked out of the dormitory together.
"You guys are planning to go back into that forest, aren't you?" Abigail asked.
"I was planning to go alone, but Althea won't let me," Ezra said, frowning.
"Hey, don't blame me here, the last time I let you go off on your own you went and got yourself caught by the witch and warlocks," Althea responded.
"That was unintentional!" Ezra exclaimed. "Look, when we got separated, I ended up getting caught between all three of them."
"Guys..." Abigail said.
"Right, but..." Althea started.
"Hey guys!" Abigail exclaimed. "If you're done arguing, then we need to get out to that forest. The world will not save itself you know?!"
Ezra and Althea stopped arguing, giving Abigail a chance to breathe. Even though Ezra wanted to make sure the girls were safe, Abigail had a valid point: the world would not be saved if they were standing around and doing nothing. Together, they started their trek toward the forest. But then, taking the long way around, the group went through the field and cut off half their time allotted. They walked through the forest, dodging spider webs and other creepy crawly creatures.
Though, as they neared the cabin, the atmosphere changed, catching Ezra off guard. Something wasn't right. He paused at a fork in their path. Behind him, Althea and Abigail were too busy talking to notice where they were going. The girls ran into him, making him stumble and turn to them.
"Sorry," Althea said. "Ezra, are you okay? Why did you stop?"
"Something's not right," Ezra said. "Stay down."
Ezra dragged Abigail and Althea to some bushes and hid behind them. They poked their heads from the other side and watched to find out the Servants were in the middle of the ritual. "How could this be possible? They haven't gotten the last ingredient."
"What?" Althea said in shock, she glanced at the Servants. "I thought they needed my blood."
"They do, but I don't understand what they're trying to do now," Ezra said in confusion. He watched as the group grabbed the herb, and Melissa held a knife in her hand, ready to cut herself if need be.
"This has to be a trap," Abigail said.
Before she could say anything more, someone came out of nowhere, scaring Abigail. Abigail screamed and punched the visitor in the face. All three turned to look at who she'd punched. There, sprawled in the dirt, was none other than Peter.
*~*~*
Peter never liked Althea's friend. She was annoying, stubborn, and overprotective. But when he saw them hiding behind the bushes, he joined them. That was a big mistake because now he had to hold his nose in pain.
"Ow!" Peter exclaimed.
"You asshole!" Abigail whispered-screamed. "Never sneak up on someone like that!"
"Guys," Althea said. "That was not such a good idea."
"Yeah, you might have given us away," Ezra said.
As if reading their thoughts, suddenly Melissa, Adam, Alex, and Jennifer were in front of them. They were dressed in dark ritual attire. Jennifer wore a black dress with a chained belt and long sleeves that had tattoos, which also made it look like she had them. She also wore dark lipstick. Adam and Alex had black robes with ropes tied around their waists. Melissa was a different story. Peter hadn't known that she had any sort of ritual attire. Hell, he didn't know she even practiced spells and enchantments.
"Glad you can finally join us," Adam said an evil grin appearing. "Although it would have been nice if you came sooner."
"Peter," Alex said, and smirked. "Kind of shocked that you're doing this. You would have been a great addition to this team, but seeing as how you went behind our backs and joined them, I think it's time that we deal with you."
Peter watched as Ezra got up and stepped in front of the three of them. He knew all about Ezra, and there was no way the angel was going to let his ex-friends take them. That changed when Adam, Jennifer, and Melissa attacked them. They fought back, pushing Adam and his friends away, but that didn't go so well. While they tried to fight back, suddenly, Peter saw Alex cast a spell. The next thing they all knew, they were out like lights.
*~*~*
Althea groaned and awoke to find herself tied to a chair. She looked around the cabin and saw that there wasn't any furniture. Not only that—she couldn't see Peter, Abigail, or Ezra. Worried, she struggled to break free, but the bonds were too tight. She looked at the chair that she was sitting in; she had hopes that maybe Peter and her friends were okay, but it was doubtful, the way they worked. They would use that time to torture her friends so she would comply with their wishes. It didn't help that Melissa was in the picture.
The door creaked open and Melissa stepped inside, carrying a half-conscious angel.
"So glad you're finally awake, Althea," Melissa said, and evil smirk appearing.
"How am I not surprised that you were going to be here?" she asked. "And what the hell are you going to do to my angel?"
"If you don't comply with our wishes, I'll use this angel to make sure you listen."
"And what are you going to do about it?" Althea asked. "Because you have me here and yet, all I can see is a sorry excuse for an ex-friend."
"A sorry excuse?" Melissa scoffed and tossed Ezra on the floor before approaching and kneeling in front of her. "Last I checked, you chose Abigail over me. After everything we've been through, you decide now to forget about me?"
"Because you always caused Abigail and I to be tired the next day!" Althea exclaimed.
"Now that's your fault. I'm going to leave this adorable angel here. That way, you two can say your final goodbyes." Melissa walked out of the cabin.
Althea didn't know what Melissa was talking about, but she didn't want to find out her plans. There was more to it than that. Althea could sense it. She might have only been using the other Servants to get what she wanted. If that was the case, then it wouldn't be long before someone found her out.
