Chapter Thirteen

Ezra stirred from everything that happened. He wasn't sure where he was. His vision came into focus, he looked around in his general surroundings. He saw he was in an old worn-out farmhouse that looked like no one had been inside in years. It was dark save for the silver light coming from the hole in the ceiling. Ezra tried to move but chains rattled, causing him to look behind him. He saw the Servants of Evil chained him against a wall like a dog. Ezra tried to get himself freed, but the chains constantly tightened around him.

"Glad you're finally awake," A voice said. Ezra looked around, and standing directly in front of him was Adam. He was sharpening a dagger to a point. "Don't escape, Ezra. Those chains have a spell on them. Anyone who tries to break free from that won't be able to escape, it tightens each time you struggle."

"Where am I?" Ezra asked.

"You're in a farmhouse. We knew that your charge would try to find us at the cabin, so we brought you here where I'm sure she'll try to find you."

"This is all a trap for Althea, isn't it?" Ezra questioned. "You kidnapped me to lure her here."

"Glad you're putting this together," Adam responded. "We can't capture her right off the bat. First, we need her weak."

Ezra fought against his bonds, but nothing seemed to work. He searched the room and saw a set of keys hanging on a hook across the room. The only way Ezra could get his hands on the keys was if someone took them off and gave them to him. Even then, he wouldn't be able to unhook himself.

"Again, you can't escape, so you can stop trying to figure it out."

"Whatever you're planning to summon, you won't get away with it," Ezra said. "As soon as I get free, you're the first person I will go after."

"Oh, really?" Adam said. "Well, too bad, let's see how long it'll take for Althea to figure out where you are."

Adam laughed maniacally as he turned and left the room, leaving Ezra in complete darkness.

*~*~*

Peter and Althea had been talking for the last few minutes, but Peter knew Althea wanted to find Ezra. He wanted to find Ezra as much as she did, but he still didn't like bringing Abigail in. They arrived at the dorm room and walked in to find Abigail sitting and waiting for them.

"Why is he here?" Abigail said, glaring at Peter. The first time the two met, they didn't get along. In fact, they still didn't like each other. Peter thought Abigail was clingy, which drove him insane. Not only that, but she was also annoying about caring for Althea.

"I could say the same for you," Peter said.

"You can give me an attitude all you want, Mr., but you are about to make me mad," Abigail said.

"Guys..." Althea started.

"I'm about to make you mad. First, I know my friends like the back of my hand," Peter responded. "And second, at least I'm not pushy."

"You son of a bitch!"

"Hey! Both of you! Shut up!" Althea screamed. Peter turned his attention away from Abigail and back to Althea. "We need to put aside our differences and go save Ezra. For all we know, they could hurt him. I, for one, don't want to arrive at that abandoned farmhouse and find out my angel is getting tortured by Servants of Evil! Now either you two grow up or I will find him myself!"

"You can't go out there by yourself," Peter said.

"Watch me," Althea said. "That is the first thing I'm going to do. Ezra is like my twin brother, and I won't let anything bad happen to him."

*~*~*

Althea was more than determined to risk her life for her spiritual brother. She would not let some lowlife demon worshipper torture him. The idea of him getting hurt made her skin crawl. Once Peter and Abigail stopped arguing, Althea formed a plan in her mind.

"Alright, here's the plan," Althea said. "When we get there, Peter, you'll be inside the farmhouse distracting your friends, Abigail. You and I will sneak in around the back and search for Ezra. After we find him, we need to free him with no one else knowing."

"But Althea, what if something goes wrong and someone hurts you?"

"It won't happen," Althea reassured her best friend. "Now instead of us sulking here, we need to save Ezra. Luckily, I know where that place is."

Althea, Peter, and Abigail left the dorm room and climbed into the car before driving to the farmhouse. Upon arriving at the farmhouse, the group looked at it for a few minutes. It was old and worn out; the roof looked like it was going to fall off at any moment. They boarded the windows, and the door was falling off its hinges. Althea didn't know what more to say, considering she had a huge pit in her stomach, something that she never thought was possible. Whatever the reason behind Ezra's capture, Althea wanted to get in and get out. But something seemed off. It was too easy, like this had been planned. Althea's brown eyes scanned the area, searching for anything that could point them to a trap. She found non, although she was sure the place was a trap. She'd have to pay extra close attention to her surroundings in case something went awry.

"Althea, I would really like to warn you that this is a bad idea," Abigail said.

"Shut up," Peter complained. "Ezra is in there and if we don't do something soon, then I don't know what my friends will do."

"How do we know you can be trusted?" Abigail asked. "You threatened Althea! Althea, how can you trust this guy if he's threatened you?"

"Guys..." Althea started.

"I only did it because I was told to," Peter argued.

"Guys..."

"Because you were told to?" Abigail scoffed. "I'm sorry but aren't you...I don't know human? You can make your own damn choices."

"You know nothing about me!" Peter yelled. "Or what I have gone through!"

"QUIET!" Althea whispered. "If you don't stay silent, then I'll make you shut up. Let's get into that farmhouse and rescue Ezra."

*~*~*

Ezra pulled at the chains, struggling to break himself free, but no matter what he did, pain shot throughout his arms. The magic in the chains prevented him from disappearing. He searched for anything that could point him to a key. As he looked around, he heard voices coming from outside.

We all know the plan, a voice said. Get in, get Ezra, and get out. The voice belonged to Althea. Ezra was relieved but worried for his charge's sake. All he could think about was failing his brother yet again. Ezra closed his eyes and tried to focus on Althea even looking through her eyes. Despite being chained up, at least he had the chance to see whatever Althea saw.

Ezra saw Althea enter the farmhouse. With her were Peter and Abigail. Peter followed the girls in, Ezra became worried. Peter was planning something, and he'd lured Althea to the farmhouse so she would fall into the Servants of Evil's hands. Ezra watched helplessly as Althea and the other two split up.

Pulling himself out from the scene, Ezra looked over as the doors swung open and Althea came barreling in. His charge came running over to the chains, tears brimming the corners of her eyes.

"Ezra! Oh, thank God you're okay!" Althea exclaimed.

"Althea, you shouldn't be here," Ezra warned. "This is a trap."

"I don't care. I came to save you. No way am I letting them hurt you," Althea responded.

"Oh, barf in my mouth," someone said.

Ezra looked away from Althea and behind her. The man was standing in the shadows, half his face hidden within the darkness. "You two are so weird, and Althea, I'm surprised you showed up." The uninvited stranger stepped forward, revealing that it was Adam. "But then again, you two are the same."
