Chapter 10

-Tayvra's POV-

The infamous Alpha Zane stood in front of me. I vaguely remember stories about him that were told around like ghost stories. Stories of how he started and ended wars against other packs. Of how he killed rouges with his bare hands. Of how he murdered his own mate. I now remember all the stories of Alpha Zane and he was standing right in front of me. I finally noticed my grip on Zannic become tighter on him. I relaxed on him because I didn't want Alpha Zane to think I was scared of him. Well, I was, but I heard he could smell fear. Alpha Zane walked into the house without a word. He simply walked past me and trudged up the stairs.

Zannic sighed behind me, "He's never been a people person. He won't even warm up to me." I felt there wasn't much joking in his voice. I almost felt bad. I wondered what his childhood was like.

I heard Avery talking to Rufus, "Uncle R! That's the lady who got Mrs.Bunny back for me!"

Rufus sounded fatherly as he held Avery close to him, "Oh really? That's great. Did you tell Tavyra thank you?" She nodded as she hugged him close. Then he turned to me, "Thanks. Edward's been picking on her since she's been going to school."

"The boy?"

"Yea. I might have to go up and talk to him this time. He's gone too far."

I agreed. That boy seemed like a total douche, "Well if you ever need any help I'm alwa--"

"Rouge!!"

There was shouting coming from outside. Mostly the repeating of, "Rouge!" "Exile!" "Kill him!" Zannic, Tyson, Kristy, and I headed outside to the forming riot outside. There was one guy in the middle, he looked disheveled, and hungry. I could see his eyes caved in and the meat on his bones were falling off of his body. His skin looked pale and almost see through. I realized that he was half changed into his wolf. He had his claws, his teeth, but there was very little fur. Like it had all fallen off.

Zannic pushed his way through the circling crowd and went to the man. He was snapping and barking at him, but that didn't stop him from grabbing him by the neck and lifting him up. I stood on the edge of the circle, too cautious to step any more closer. The man was choking and struggling in the air, but Zannic never let up. "Give....Alpha...Zane." The man said through the closing of his throat. Zannic simply looked at him up and down.

The man began to struggle at Zan's hand, trying to claw it off, but it wasn't moving. Maybe he was trying to decide what to do with him. The crowd was urging for blood, "Kill the Rouge!" "Make him suffer!" Wow, these people were so violent. I felt someone standing next to me and I looked. It was Alpha Zane. I didn't even hear him come up. I had to admit, he scared the crap outta me, but I tried not to show my fear. Zannic saw him and slammed his body to the ground. I could hear the breath escape his lungs and his coughing that sounded like he was dying.

Zane simply stepped to the man and put his foot on his chest. The two were whispering to each other as I watched Zane's foot transform into thick claws that sunk into the man's chest. I heard the sick, cringing sound of breaking bones. It made my stomach shake listening to it. The man began to yell in agony. Zannic stepped over to me and shielded me away from the dying man, standing in front of me and covering my ears. I closed my eyes. I really didn't want to hear any of it anymore.

Soon, the muffled screaming had stopped. I really wanted to hope that Zane had stopped torturing the man, but after I opened my eyes and caught the sight of the lifeless body on the ground, I could you could say it did. There was a puddle of blood and the man's eyes were still opened. I shuddered. Zannic turned me around and headed back to the house. I didn't protest. Before we entered the house, my breakfast came back up.

-------

Kristy and I were sitting in the den hanging around. Tyson and Avery were playing in the corner. There were a few other people here and there, but they minded their own business. I tucked my feet under me and was checking my phone as Kris and I chatted. Kris was laying back in her seat, her eyes closed. "Do you think Tyson's been acting strange lately?" She asked me randomly.

I looked up at him, he was playing with a doll as Avery was putting make up on him. He was laughing and making Avery have fun, "Do I look pretty yet, A?" Tyson asked.

She giggled as she continued to put blush on him, "Like a princess!" I smiled. She was so cute. I sometimes forgot that she was a part of this cruel werewolf world, just like I am.

"He seems fine to me." I answered.

She stretched and yawned, "He just hasn't been talking to me like he used to. The only ever time he acted like this is when Luna Annie died."

"Luna Annie?" I asked. I do believe that was Zannic's mother. I hadn't known she died. It never occurred to me to ask.

"Yea...it was a sad time for all of us. She was the only person who could make Alpha Zane smile." She began to get lost in her thoughts as a smile broke from her lips. "He hasn't really smiled since."

I didn't realize the story of him murdering his mate was true. Or, did he? "How'd she die?"

She sighed and started to recall, "It was a Rouge ambush that night. They attacked the house. One...slipped by and killed Luna Annie in her sleep. Throat slit. Next morning, Alpha wasn't seen for almost a month and there were zero tolerance for Rouges. No one was really the same." There was a small moment of silence. Not only was that tragic, but the probably explained why Zane killed that Rouge. Letting him suffer. And if that's the case, I can never let them find out I'm a Rouge, or I'm dead on the spot. "But, that was 12 years ago." I don't know if that's better or worse. There was nothing that I could say so I'm simply went back to my phone to avoid the discomfort.

-Zannic's POV-

We were sitting in an emergency meeting. I've yet to really have a chance to talk to my dad since he got back. He was on a mission for two and a half weeks and Rufus and I had to go meet up with him this morning. We decided late last night, but since we couldn't find Tyson at the time, it was just us. Even on the way back with him, he didn't say a word to me. Not even a hello. When I introduced him to Tavyra, I almost saw a look of disapproval in his eyes. I needed to talk to him, but he wouldn't even let me.

The Rouge situation this morning didn't help either. I tried to convince him to let that man go, but, he simply denied my request and killed him. Even after all these years, it was still disturbing to watch. I couldn't even have Tavyra watch it. Hearing those bones break simply made me shudder. "Alpha Zane." I tuned back into the conversation. "How do you wish to proceed?"

I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Since my father was back, he was the Alpha again. He had all the power. Sometimes I just wished he'd pass it down to me already. I really don't want to wait until he croaks. "Kill on sight as usual." He ordered, "And investigate the pack. No Rouges in or out. And I mean it."

"Yes, Alpha." Everybody agreed and started to stand up from their seats. There was some chatter as they went out the door, but I knew Rufus was in his corner waiting for the room to clear out. But it didn't seem Father was going to leave just yet as he continued to sit in his chair. This could be one of my only chances to talk to him.

I got up and followed the last person out, closing the door behind him so we could talk privately. Father was simply looking down at his papers and reading them over again. He didn't even acknowledge me. I sighed and leaned against the door, "Welcome home, Dad."

He wrote some things down on his papers and forms, "Did everything go well while I was gone?" He didn't even look up at me as he spoke anymore. I had to let it go but I looked at Rufus for some advice. Rufus simply motioned me to keep going. That means he even treats Rufus like this.

"Yes, everything has gone well." I answered him.

"Good." He shuffled his papers together and pushed them to the side. Leaning back in his chair and looking down at the ground in thought.

Sometimes I simply wished he just treated me like his son, "So..." How was I suppose to do this? How was I suppose to act like a son towards him? "How was your mission?"

He turned his chair and looked up at me, quickly changing the subject, "That Tavyra girl. She isn't from the pack."

I was kind of caught of guard. I was a bit slow to respond, "N-no..."

"Then where's she from?" That was a good question. She doesn't have the pull of a mate so maybe she's just human, but how do I explain that to him.

"W-well..." I rubbed the back of my neck and felt the stress sweat forming there. It's always been hard to talk to Dad.

"If you don't find out where she's from by the end of this week. I want her gone." I could feel my blood get both cold and boil. How dare he speak about my mate that way. She's not gonna leave me, "I want her to have a psych evaluation done and I want to see the papers."

I looked at him questionably. "Psych evaluation? We only do that when--" Then it was starting to click. I clenched my fists so I wouldn't get so angry, but it wasn't exactly working, "You think she's a Rouge!?"

"Yes." He said frankly.

"On what grounds? You don't even know her!" I was trying to bite my cheek to hold my tongue but my teeth were too sharp. I could already taste the blood.

"If she's gonna be in the pack house, then I'm gonna do what I have to protect my people. " He said.

"She's not gonna hurt anybody." I sighed and looked away from my dad's cold stone, grey eyes, "S-she's not even a wolf." I admitted.

"She's human?" He asked. I couldn't say anything else. There's no way I could be ashamed of her, but, things were just so weird right now that we couldn't let people know it. Things need to calm down first. Father got up from his chair and grabbed his papers, stepping in front of me and continued to stare at me. I didn't have the heart to pick up my head and look at him, "I want a background report by Friday afternoon." He simply said.

I gave him a curt nod, "Yes, sir." I simply said. He pushed past me and he and Rufus left to leave me alone in the conference room.
