Chapter 4

Kaida sighed watching her target in the VIP section. Ace was drinking like it was his last day on earth. She couldn't help but feel a pang of concern. Damn it. What was it with this man that pulled her close like a magnet!

She needed to get a grip of herself. It was already bad enough that she found him hot. If Ricardo found out what she was thinking right now. Oh she would definitely get a scolding, a long moral lecture about work ethics and so on.

“Why are you drinking this much?”Kaida asked, her eyes trailing down his body. He had tattoos. She could see hints of them underneath his black leather jacket. She wanted to see them and maybe do more than staring.

Heat pooled between her legs at the thought of trailing her tongue over his tattooed body. She looked away swiftly.

“Because I want to.” Ace replied, gulping down another glass of bourbon.

“The real reason, Mr King” Kaida deadpanned. She didn't know why she was even concerned. True she needed to get close to him and earn his trust but that she could do by protecting him on missions. Not sitting in a club and conversing with her target like they were old friends.

But then again, getting close to him that way might be good too. Getting him to confide in her, trust her. Still, was it really why she was here? Or is it that deep down, she wanted to be here?

“Mr King? You don't need to be this formal"Ace tsked staring at her.

“Fine. Ace, why are you drinking?”Kaida asked, still remembering their conversation in the car. He found her voice sexy and the way he was even willing to let her rip his tongue had made her heart skip a beat. She was a masochist but never had she seen a man react that way to being threatened with having his tongue ripped.

“I need to clear my mind. That's it” Ace said, drinking glasses upon glasses of bourbon.

She remained quiet taking in his veiny hands, his soft lips. His demeanour.
Hours passed but she remained seated. Observing. Assessing. And by the look of his face and droopy eyes. Kaida knew he was drunk. Completely drunk.

She could do it now. They were alone in the VIP section. But something held her back. She didn't know why, she didn't want to end the dude while he was at his most vulnerable and drunk.

A simple injection of the lethal poison hidden inside her suit coat and Ace would slowly die..

No, it was too risky. There were guards outside and it's not even been a week since she was employed. She had to wait. At least that's what she told herself while staring at her gorgeous prey.

“Let's go home” Kaida said sternly. She stood up grabbing Ace’s arm.

“I'm fine. I can stand on my own” Ace said, his voice husky.

“Fine” She replied letting go of him. Watching as he walked towards the door. His steps slow.

Once they were out of the club. She gripped his arm “I'll drive. Get into the passenger seat”

“Sure boss”Ace said. Even drunk, he was still an annoying Jerk.

Rolling her eyes, she got into the driver's seat and waited till Ace was well settled before zooming off the long lonely road.

“I never thought I would ever get such a gorgeous woman as my bodyguard.” Ace mumbled definitely drunk.

“I looked up the meaning of your name. Kaida means little dragon. Suits you. Though you are not little. You are hot as fuck and deadly”Ace rambled making her shake her head. She was certain he wouldn't even remember anything he was saying tomorrow.

Yet she couldn't help the strange but warm feeling spreading through her chest at his words. She was feared by most. Even the men she slept with never dared make conversations with her. Ace on the other hand was talking to her, complimenting her without a care in the world. It might be the alcohol talking but people say, a drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts or some shit like that and his words affected her more than she thought it would.

She was treading on thin ice. She couldn't let her emotions get the best of her. This was a mission. A target to kill. Nothing else. Emotions don't mix with business or the underworld. Emotions had no place here.

“You are like a fiery phoenix. One who was meant to fly freely. Not caged. A wild, free and resilient spirit” Ace whispered, glancing at her with a hint of wonder.

“You are drunk Ace. Do us both a favour and keep your mouth shut"Kaida replied focusing on the road ahead.

“You are doing it again. Masking your emotions. But I see beneath the facade, Kaida. You are attracted to me too. But you won't admit it” Ace said seeming very confident in his claim which much to her dismay wasn't not entirely false.

She remained quiet silently hoping she could complete this mission before the man next to her ended up making a place for himself in her black heart already broken beyond repair.
