Chapter One
Time for school yay, and just to point out that wasn't sarcastic. I guess the best and foremost word you could describe me as is well a nerd. I'm not the typical nerd, I'm pretty sarcastic and at times I go a bit over board with a few things but all in all I'm a nerd.
This will efficacy be my first year of high school, I've been home schooled since I could walk. But moving gave me the idea and motivation to finally go out in the world and try something different.. yeah don't think so. My mom told me it was time for me to become a true "woman", whatever that means.
So here I am, standing in front of my new but completely full wardrobe. My mom told me not to be to nervous and self conscious I just said I'll be fine. I'm not one to get all nervous and what not, I wouldn't say I was over confident but enough to not be thinking or trying to figure out what other people think of me twenty four seven.
So I grabbed a pair of red skinny jeans, pulled on a black tank with a button up black and red checkered shirt over it but left the buttons undone. I slipped on my black convers and my usual black "nerdy" glasses, now my hair.. I ran a brush through it a few times and shrugged my shoulders. Putting on a light layer of mascara, lightly running my baby lips chap stick over my lips and finishing my outfit with a small spray of vanilla perfume on both wrists. Okeydokey I'm ready for school, and yes even though I'm a nerd I'm still a girl and like most girls take time when working on their appearance.
I took the stairs two at a time and waked into the kitchen to find my mother cooking the usual breakfast. "Morning mom" I said giving her a light kiss on the cheek.
"Morning sweetheart" my mother said in return. "Excited to start high school?" she asked placing a cheese and tomato omelet onto my plate. Yum.
"Eh" I said eating half my omelet in one bite.
"Eh? That's all you have to say about starting school?" she accused sending a raised eyes brow my direction.
"Alright I'm a bit nervous, happy mother hen?" I asked around a mouth full of delicious egg.
"Yes, now lets go, don't want you to be late on your first day," she spoke the words while already half way to the car.
I stuffed the rest of my breakfast down and placed my plate into the sink while grabbing my book bag and running after my mom, goodness she's a speed walker.
By the time we made it to the school I was convinced we ran through at least two red lights, my mom isn't the best behind the wheel. "Ok mom calm down everything's going to be, I will be fine" I said giving her another hug as she clung to me with dear life.
"I know, I know but call me if anything happens anything" she said giving me a look that had my head nodding in a frantic up and down motion.
"Bye mom!" I said waving and waiting for her to drive off like a normal parent but no. "Bye mom!" putting empathy on the bye, she waved one last time and drove off with tears in her eyes, I'm just thankful she didn't take any pictures.
Suddenly my watch started to beep meaning.. time to get my schedule. As I walked through the groups of people and ignored the stares and glances, not giving it a second thought. I made my way up the stairs leading to the building and through the doors. I stood there for a good two minutes, looking around and seeing what an actual school looked from the inside.
The floors looked as though they used to be white and over time became an in between color of gray and yellow, along with some trash here and there. Lockers lined each side of the hallways, almost a pale dark blue. As I walked a few more steps there was a sign above an office stating MAIN OFFICE, hmmm helpful. I opened the door and walked in to be greeted with the smell of grape fruit, yuck. There was a lady sitting behind a desk to my right typing away at her computer.
"Hello excuse me" she didn't even flinch. "Hellllooo" I said a bit louder, waving my hand in front of her face.
The woman stopped typing only to send a glare in my direction, "Can I help you?" she asked with an unneeded attitude.. and goodness, has she ever heard of a breath mint?
"Yes actually I just started today and was hoping to get my schedule" I said as pleasantly as I could.
"Name".
"Alexis Maxwell".
She took a few moments, looking through a folder or two before pulling out a green paper. "Here you go, goodbye". Then she went back to clicking loudly away on her keyboard.
"Yeah thanks" I muttered under my breath along with a few other words not worth mentioning.
As I walked out of the office I noticed the halls where empty and quiet, you have got to be kidding me. That annoying and lousy receptionist made me late with her sassy attitude. Well hopefully they'll be kind enough to let me off easy, it is my first day after all.
I trudged down the hall and scanned for my locker out of the bunch only to find it and have not a single clue on how to open the damn thing. After the hundredth time I gave up with a heave and gave the stupid thing a hard kick, resulting into a soar toe. "You stupid locker", I stated.
"Well that's not very nice".
