Chapter 15
I ran with her. I ditched my cardboard cover. I was soaking wet. I took the one route I knew would work-the one I took Aiden. I was so tired, but I just ran. I hoped she would be nice to me after this. After all, I'm trying to save her life! I wasn't the only one running. The woman was running behind me. I could hear her chasing me. "Stop!" she screamed. The rain poured as I kept running.
The road was wet and muddy. My shoes must of looked horrible. My hair was wet, and dripping. I saw the lights of the tent coming up. Good thing it was waterproof. I ran into the tent. Two doctors helped me get Vicky on a bed. They gave me a towel, so I used it. It was a slightly dirty, but it was a towel! As I dried myself off, the woman walked in and sat next to Vicky. I realized that was her mom.
I walked over to Aiden, and I saw his parents. They saw me. "Thank you!" they immediately said. The mom stood up and gave me a hug, even though I was wet. The doctors were rushing around. Some people looked like they came out of a car crash. It was awful. I decided to help people who were stuck still. I left the towel on a chair and ran out. The rain was starting to stop. I saw a police officer. He ran to me.
"There's only a man and a woman missing, the rest have been found," he told me, as he showed me two pictures. I nodded. I ran around. I looked around. I saw a man digging. He looked like the man from the picture. I ran up to him. His left wrist was twisted funny, but he was still digging. I started helping him dig. His wife was stuck in the rubble. We dug in silence. Not a word.
Soon, we were able to pull his wife out. She was awake. "Thank you so much!" she exclaimed, giving me a hug also. I noticed she was pregnant. I saw the man smile at me. "He would say thank you, but he's mute," said his wife. I nodded.
"Come on, I'll show you to the hospital tent," I said. They nodded in unison. I led them to the tent. Nobody else was in sight. The rain was almost gone by now, so I wasn't getting too wet. As soon as I got in the tent, I saw everyone standing.
"That's the hero!" they all said as once. They all started clapping. Even the couple I just rescued. I looked around. Even the doctors were clapping. I blushed. I must of been as red as a tomato. Aiden ran up and gave me a hug. He smiled. Vicky walked up to me.
"I'm sorry," she said, and she did mean it. She hugged me. "I'm very sorry, please forgive me," she said, almost crying. I nodded. She actually cried. "I have a question, how did you have the ability to lift me?" she asked. I told them all. I wasn't ashamed. They all felt sorry for me. A doctor put his hands on my shoulders.
"Well, you were the best test subject ever," he told me.
