Test 2
(Deadlox's POV (4 years old))
I noticed something shiny out of the corner of my eye. Walking towards it I saw a gold ingot laying on the ground. I bent down to pick it up when a shout pierced the silence.
"Don't touch my BUDDER!!"
I jumped back as someone rushed over and snatched up the ingot. It was a boy, maybe a year or 2 older then me. He had a weird black and gray outfit and when he looked at me which was a little unnerving because I couldn't see his eyes behind his sunglasses.
"Did you try to steal my Budder?" He asked accusingly and hugged the ingot to his chest.
"N-no! I wouldn't steal your-" That's where it hit me what he said. "B-budder? Whats Budder?"
The boys mouth fell open in shock. "You don't know what BUDDER is?!" He asked.
I shook my head, a little confused.
"I have so much to teach you!" He exclaimed. "This is Budder." He shoved the gold ingot in my face.
"Umm that's gold-"
"Don't say that word!! It's Budder!!" He yelled.
I stepped back in shock and raised my hands up. "OK, OK, it's Budder." I said.
The boy relaxed and fixed his scruffy brown hair. "OK!" He said, excitedly while grinning.
Now that his hands where down, I saw a purple stone surrounded by 'Budder' hanging from a thin white rope around her neck.
I was about to ask him what it was when his stomach growled.
"I'm hungry." He stated. "C'mon. My base isn't too far away." He grabbed my hand and started tugging me along.
"W-wait! What's your name?" I asked.
"Adam but my nicknames Sky." He replied. "what's yours?"
"Deadlox."
He raised an eyebrow. "That's a weird name." He stated, then let out a big grin. "Come on Deadlox. Let's go get some food!"
We had been walking for maybe 10 minutes. I could feel my chest tightening and it
was starting to get hard to breath.
"We're here!" Sky exclaimed. A small wooden base came into view and it looked like it was merged into the hill next to it.
"Why is your base cut off by a hill?" I asked.
"No, silly. My base IS the hill!" He giggled and opened the door. We were in a small hall that lead to a living room with a small couch and a couple chairs.
"Down that hall is the kitchen." Sky explained, pointing down the right hall. "And to the left is my bedroom."
I was impressed. Even without my sickness I could never hollow out this hill and make all of this.
"I'm not done hollowing out the WHOLE thing. Do you want some food?" He asked. Then without waiting for a reply he went down the right hall.
I blinked, a little confused about him switching topics so fast, then followed. The kitchen was a little smaller than the living room with plenty of chests and a small table and chair. Sky was digging through a chest.
"What food do you want?" He asked.
"Bread." I replied immediately. Though bread reminded me of the villagers, it also reminded me of Bapa.
Sky pulled out bread and passed it to me. " You can sit in my chair." He said, going back the living room. I was glad Sky didn't see me struggle to get up on the chair. I didn't want him to know i was sick and make fun of me like the villagers.
He came back with another chair and grabbed some steak. Pulling himself onto the chair, he started eating.
I nibbled on my bread and examined his necklace. It was weird but I felt that there was something strange about it. "Where'd you get the necklace?" I asked.
"Itf a amulet. Neckwafef ahe fo girlf." He said through a mouth full of steak. He swallowed and continued. "My mommy gave it to me."
"Where's your mommy?" I asked.
For the first time since I met him, Sky went dead silent. He stared at the steak, frozen like a statue.
"Sk-Sky?" I called his name softly.
"... You can have as much food as you want.." He mumbled. Standing up he quickly left the room.
I sat there in confusion then got up and followed. I heard a door close and walked towards his bedroom. "Sky?" I asked and gently opened the door. I was not expecting what I saw.
Sky was curled up in his bed, crying and hugging his blanket. His glasses had fallen off and his hazel eyes were full of tears.
"Why are you crying?" I asked and walked over to him.
He looked at me and wiped his eyes. "S-squids drowned my m-m-mommy-" His voice cracked and he started crying again. I was confused. Squids? How? Squids aren't hostile. They just swim around. How could they hurt, let alone kill someone?
But as I looked at Sky, I could tell he was as sad as I was when I lost Bapa. Maybe squids didn't kill her but she got tangled in seaweed and Sky thought it was squid. Climbing up next to him, I gave him a big hug. He wiped his eyes and hugged him back.
"... A spider killed my Bapa..." I said as tears came to my eyes.
Sky looked at me. "Bapa?"
I nodded. "He was a villager so zombies attacked and broke the door, but it was a spider who got in and killed him.." My voice became shaky as I tried to keep the tears back.
"I'm sorry." Sky said, empathy filling his eyes. I turned my head as I went into a coughing fit.
"Deadlox?!" Sky exclaimed with worry. I laid down as the coughs racked my body. Sky stayed next to me as until the coughing died down.
"Are you ok?" He asked.
I took a shaky breath, preparing for the mocking. "I'm sick."
"Like you got a cold? I can make you some mushroom stew and-"
I cut him off. "No I'm sick sick. I've been sick since I was born."
He looked slightly confused so I kept going. "I have a disease with no cure. I have problems with breathing, coughing and when I walk for a long time my legs start shaking." I took another shaky breath. I always tried to avoid this but Sky had to know. "I only have until i'm 5 to live........ I'm 4....."
Sky stared at me for a bit. Then to my surprise, he hugged me. "I won't let that happen."
I didn't know what to say. All the villagers would mock me for being sick, but Sky was being nice.
"Neither of us have families so we'll be each others families. We'll take care of each other." Sky said, smiling.
I returned the smile, joy flooding through me.
"You can stay in my room. I'll make you your own tomorrow." He said.
I nodded and responded, "OK." I looked around the room and realized EVERYTHING was Budder colored.
Sky let out a yawn causing me to yawn. "Let's get some sleep." Sky said.
I nodded and crawled under the blanket. Sky did as well and instantly fell asleep.
I smiled. Sky was weird, from calling gold Budder and pretty much being obsessed with it, to telling me squids were evil. But he was nice and I never had a friend before.
END
Yay for test two! I'm not feeling well and I didn't want to write anything new so I took one of my very first things I typed. It's garbage but oh well.
