Tyler

"I just don't get it."

My dad sighed. "Tyler, I've explained it at least three times now. I'm going somewhere with Mitch to visit some of my old friends."

"Yeah, but why now? He just shows up and all of a sudden you're leaving?"

My dad was packing up some stuff to go on a four-day long trip to go see some friends, or so he said. According to that Mitch guy, he was going to go dismantle some redstone.

"Tyler, it's only four days."

"Yeah, but I still don't understand why."

"Just...because, Tyler. Because."

"That's what you say whenever you don't want to tell me something." I pointed out.

"Tyler, everything will be okay. Jin's going to be here in a few hours, you'll be fine when he's here."

Jin was my dad's best friend, he visited a lot. He was pretty cool.

"I know that. But still."

My dad sighed. "You're not going to let this go, are you?"

I shook my head. "No."

He zipped the backpack shut. "I don't know what else to tell you. There's no other reason."

"Fine."

He slung the backpack.over his shoulder, and then stopped. "Tyler, what's the number one rule?"

"Don't touch the box." I deadpanned, having gone through this at least a thousand times.

To my surprise, he shook his head. "No. This time, the number one rule is that I want you and Macey to watch out for each other. Okay?"

"...Okay." I answered. It wasn't like my dad to make a request like that. It kind of scared me a little.

"And here." He pulled his amulet off, and pressed it into my hand.

I stared at it, not being able to believe it.

"I don't want it to break. Where I'm going, it's most likely going to." He explained

"Dad, you're kind of scaring me right now." I said, grasping the purple and yellow-colored gem in my hand.

"I figured." He gave me a half-smile. "Don't let it break, okay? It's special."

"Alright."

"Hey, don't worry about me, okay?" He smiled. He could read me like a book. "Remember, I'm Super Dad. I can handle anything."

I laughed, remembering the nickname Macey and I had given him, back when Macey still talked.

"Seriously though, everything will be okay." He stated, and left the room, me trailing behind him.

He gave Macey a hug. "Love you both, I'll see you in a few days." He smiled, and went outside to where Mitch was waiting.

I glanced over at Macey. "Looks like we're on our own for a while. At least, until Jin gets here."

She nodded silently. "Tyler...is Dad going to be okay?"

I looked over at the doorway, where Dad and Mitch had already gone.

"You want the truth?" I asked, and she nodded again.

"I don't know."
