Tyler

I was sitting in the living room on a Saturday morning, a bowl of cereal in my lap, a spoon in my hand, watching Attack On Mob on the t.v. My sister was in another chair, her nose stuck in her notebook, pen in hand, her glasses nearly slipping off of her face. Typical.

Macey's notebook was, in fact, still is her most prized possession. She never went anywhere without the thing, and there was rarely a time when I looked over and she wasn't scribbling in it. Not that I had ever seen what she was writing- I wasn't allowed to look in it. Neither was Dad, but he said it was okay for her to have her own world in there.

And what was my dad doing, you ask?

Watching the show with me.

Seemed legit.

"Come on, Rage, come on, Rage, come on..." I leaned forward, totally immersed as Rage swung at the Colossal Mob's neck, and...

Ding dong.

"I'll get it." I said, pausing the show.

Macey glanced up, probably noticing the sudden change in the noise level. Once she realized that I had just paused the show, her eyes averted back to the book.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted my dad slowly reaching for the remote, as if he was going to unpause it.

I froze, and so did he, a smile on his face.

"I swear to Notch, dad, I have been waiting for this episode for a week."

He threw up his hands in fake surrender. "Fine! I won't touch it."

I saw Macey slightly shake her head, as if to say, "You people are insane."

Ding dong.

"Coming!" I called, and quickly gave my dad the "I'm watching you" sign before running to get the door. I heard him laugh behind me, even though he knew that I'm serious when it comes to Attack on Mob.

I opened up the door, and there stood a man I had never seen before in my life.

He looked to be about my dad's age, and had brown hair and brown eyes. His checkered hoodie he had on had a few patches on it, like it was old. A shining golden dog tag hung from around his neck.

He looked puzzled when he saw me. "Who are you?"

"I could ask the same question." I replied.

"My name's Mitch. I'm a friend of Sky's."

"You mean my dad?" I asked. I had never met any of my dad's old friends. In fact, I didn't even know he had any.

"Mitch" tilted his head. "You're Sky's kid?" He asked, like the thought would jave never occured to him.

I guess I didn't look much like my dad at all.

"Adopted, but yeah. He's my dad." I looked over at ny shoulder at the living room. "Dad! Some guy's at the door for you!"

He came over to the door, and his eyes went wide when he saw "Mitch".

"Mitch?" He asked, as if he couldn't believe it.

Mitch rolled his eyes. "No, it's clearly Herobrine, and I've come to murder you all." He said sarcastically.

Dad laughed, and turned to me. "Go back to the living room, okay, Tyler?"

"Okay..." I walked back to the living room, and I just caught the beginning of the conversation.

"You named him Tyler?" I heard Mitch ask.

"Yeah. Seemed right."

Seemed right? What was that supposed to mean? My dad had never told me why he named me Tyler, I just always assumed he just liked the name.

Was there a reason I was named Tyler?

I wanted to watch my show, but now my curiosity was brewing. What were my dad and his "friend" talking about? Who even was that guy?

Finally, my curiosity got the better of me.

Macey was still absorbed in her notebook, so I was in the clear. I crept behind the wall that seperated the living room from the front hallway and listened in.

"-haven't told them yet?" I heard Mitch say, shocked.

"Well, technically, they know. They just don't know it was me." My dad's voice.

Was "they" Macey and I?

"You need to tell them eventually. They can't just live their lives not knowing who you are!"

"The time isn't right, Mitch."

"The time is always right for something like this. My kid knows!"

"Every kid in the Kingdom knows!"

"Oh, you know what I mean, Sky."

The Kingdom? What?

"Not to be rude, but why are you here?"

"You said that you would come back if we needed anything."

"What, is something wrong?"

"Not really, it's more of a ceremonial thing."

I could picture my dad rolling his eyes. "What do you mean by 'ceremonial'?"

"Remember the redstone he talked about? The Ssundee and Rose redstone?"

"How could I forget? Scared me to death when Rose suddenly tried to karate-chop my head in two."

"Yeah, well, we tracked it down, and we wanted to see if you would come along to dismantle it with us. Like a big-" He said an explicitive that made Macey look up in shock, "- you to the slimy jerks who set it up in the first place. And besides, you need to get back in the game."

"Please, Mitch, keep your voice down. Tyler can probably hear you."

They must have lowered their voices, because I couldn't hear them anymore.

I went back to my spot on the couch, realizing it was pointless to keep listening. Macey had turned back to her book.

My curiosity, however, had grown.
