Tyler
"MACEY!" I screamed, running through the woods, twigs scraping my hands and face.
Where was she? Was she dead? She couldn't be dead.
I heard a scream from the left of me.
"MACEY!" I yelled again, running towards the source as fast as I could.
I didn't think about where I was, or how I'd gotten there. I had to get to my sister.
I ran straight into a clearing, tripping over a branch and landing face-first into grass.
Nice.
I looked up, and that's when I saw it.
She sat at the base of a tree, a crimson stain on the front of her shirt that was too large to be able to be healed.
"...Macey?"
When there was no response, I ran forward, praying to Notch that she'd be okay, that she wasn't dead, that everything was going to be alright.
Instead, the scene around me changed.
All around me, overwhelming flames rose higher and higher with every second. I could hear screaming, too many screams to count and too many flames to try and help. I was trapped.
The flames closed in on me, and I felt familiar panic in my chest.
I was going to be burnt alive.
I'll admit it- I screamed like a baby, and I'm okay with that now. If you're surrounded by flames that are closing in on you to burn you alive, you should be allowed to scream like a baby.
All of a sudden, the flames around me went out, and before I could pull myself back together, I saw a woman across the space I was in, shoving a baby out of the door right before even more flames consumed her.
What was this?
You don't belong here, something whispered in my ear. You are not like the others. You were supposed to die.
Was that my real mom?
The scene changed again, and I was standing in a dark room.
My dad stood in front of me, grinning like I'd never seen before. My dad's smile was a kind one, but the one I was looking at was cruel.
"Nothing I told you was true, was it?" He asks, staring me directly in the face. "Not a single thing."
He grabbed me by the throat, lifting me into the air easily. "I never cared about you, you know that? I mean, geez, I couldn't even trust you enough to tell you who I was."
"You're not my dad." I spoke, my voice strained.
"You sure about that, Tyler?" He asked. "I've kept so much from you, how would you know anything about who I am?"
You don't, I thought. You know nothing about him, nothing at all. You know nothing about any of the others, either.
"My dad would never-"
"News flash: I am your dad." He said. "That fancy necklace around your neck proves it. By the way, you shouldn't assume that just because you have it means it's yours."
"I don't..."
"You do. Here, let me fix the problem for you."
He snapped his fingers, and the chain on the amulet snapped, causing it to fall to the floor and crack.
"No!" I managed to speak, feeling my heartbeat in my ears.
"There we go. I was hoping to get that back soon."
He let go of my throat, and I fell to the ground, slamming my side into cold, hard stone.
My dad picked up the amulet, studying the purple gem in the middle.
"Ooh, that's a shame. Broken."
I didn't think it was possible, but my heart beat even faster, my fear growing. If the amulet was broken, did that mean I couldn't use it?
"Well, there goes your weapon, Tyler!" He laughed.
No.
This couldn't be happening.
But it was.
My thoughts started up again, only this time, they were louder.
You're nothing without that sword.
You will never save anyone.
You're weak.
You don't belong here.
Macey will die.
It will be all your fault.
Your father is not who he seems.
Your friends will die.
It will be all your fault.
You cannot win.
Die here.
"Tyler!"
I looked up to see Cameron standing next to me, pulling at my arm. "Come on, man, we have to get you out of here."
"Are you sure he's real?" My dad said, grinning at me. "He's probably just a hallucination."
I stared at Cameron, and in a split second, he disappeared and reappeared.
"Come on, Tyler!"
I pulled my arm away. "You're...you're not real."
"What? Tyler, it's me, it's Cameron!"
"He's not real, Tyler. I am."
"No, you're not Cameron." I said, staring at him, and he flickered, like a bad hologram.
"Tyler, listen to me. Whatever else you're seeing or hearing right now, it's not real. You're in a room that somehow projects your worst memories and fears into real life-we have to go, now. Mine are starting to show up, and if we both get stuck here, we're dead."
Good. My thoughts said. You're worthless anyway, without that sword. Die.
I didn't say anything, I only looked away.
"He's lying, Tyler. I'm your father. You found me. Stay here." My dad said, his expression changing from cruel to kind. The expression I knew.
"I don't know what you're seeing right now, but it doesn't matter." Cameron said.
With that, he grabbed my arm and yanked me towards a wall.
"What are you doing? Let me go!" I yelled, struggling.
He had a hard time keeping me in his grasp, but he managed to, and pulled me one more time.
The thoughts cleared away, and I sat up. I was in a dimly lit stone hallway that reminded me of the Maze.
"What...what happened?" I asked, looking over at Cameron.
"I just pulled you out of something worse than the Nether." He said, a weak smile on his face. "That would be some sort of room that projects fears and bad memories. I managed to get out myself, don't know how though."
"...Wow."
"Yeah."
"Where are the others?" I asked, standing up.
"Don't know. You're the first room I found. But I'm sure the others are around here somewhere."
"Okay, well, we better hurry to find them. That room convinced me to die before you showed up. I feel like the others aren't going to be doing to much better." I said.
"Right. Let's go." Cameron said, and started down the hall.
I started after him, then stopped as I remembered something.
I reached my hand to my neck, where the familiar feeling of the amulet's chain was around my neck. I pulled it out from underneath my hoodie, and there is was, completely intact. I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Hey, are you coming? It's kind of urgent." Cameron asked from up the hall.
I tucked the amulet underneath my hoodie.
"Yeah, I'm coming."
