Chapter 2: Timeless Tale
Nathanial POV:
_____________Flashback______________
6th century
When he opened his eyes, he saw a screaming mob gathered in front of him. He closed his eyes then opened them once again. He was exhausted, he could feel the pain all over his body, a hard object hit against his head, and fell. A flinch of pain in that area then a liquid gushed out. But before he could react to that pain a handful of rocks were thrown at him by the mob. He remained motionless, he knew he was tied to a poll to be burned, and he could easily escape, but he remained there without action. The man looked toward the crowd smiled.
"He is the devil! He should be vanquished!" screamed the crowd that gathered in front of the square around him. Him not responding to their torture made the mob even angrier. He didn't blame them; their anger was a fuel set by the devils around them. A priest walked forward toward the young man, holding a round silver tray with water in it. The priest continued to chant prayers upon the water. He stopped in front of the young man and sprinkled holy water on him. The priest looked at the young man to see if the devil in him would scream, but the only screams came from the other innocent people that were tied beside the young man.
"Please I am innocent. Please let me go. I am innocent!" An older man screamed at the priest. That man tried to loosen the ropes around him, but it was useless. The priest ignored him and continued to stare at the young man's eyes. The young man's blue eyes remained ice-cold as it stared back at the priest.
"May the Almighty have mercy upon your soul. But I doubt you will escape your fate, you are a devil indeed, you killed an innocent man today you vile creature." The priest whispered as he moved on to the rest of the men and women waiting to be burned alongside him. This was a burning, a punishment only suited for sinners. Screams raged all around him, more than 50 people were tied to be burned alongside him. Most of those people were tied to the stake for a crime they had not committed. The young man looked at the crowd then at the sky in question. "What is left to pray when in ignorance in your name let the innocent burn, is this what you have asked from me, my creator? But if I have disobeyed you today, I will ask for forgiveness. In silence, a prayer was sent toward heaven.
The young man looked away in silence, he knew he was guilty. As the Observer he was created with the task to follow the course of humanity and all the creations of the underworld that lived in this realm. It was never his duty to take sides. He was sent as a placeholder between the extinction of each kind, but never to take any sides. Nevertheless, this time he did take a side and he showed his weakness he consumed himself in a desire which was forbidden to him.
He kept his eyes open as the crowd continued to throw rocks at him. A hopeless hope still consumed his heart if there was ever a heart created in him. They say love can make you do anything, and his mistake was that he left his duty and lost himself to her. Strange love can be a form of a trail of faith. "Myra!" A scream escaped the mouth of the young man as flames began to engulf him.

___________flashback ends__________
17th Century
"Myra!" Nathanial woke up screaming out an old name. Sweat dripped from his face; those flames, that burning sensation. He was burned alive. He could still feel the flames, burning away his flesh, only to revive to be burned away again. Nathanial gripped on to the covers, throwing them off him. It was ages ago, yet it felt as if he was still being consumed by his past.
"Son you alright, you seem a bit pale," Manson said as he walks over to Nathanial's bedside. Manson tried to touch his forehead, but Nathanial backed away fearing that maybe his wounds from centuries ago would show through. Even though Nathanial has lived on more than any human or beast, Nathanial could never seem to forget that time in his timeless life. Nathanial nods his head in response that he was fine. He thought he had concealed that memory deep within him, but why was he remembering her.
"You can tell this old man, boy I got no one to tell your secrets to." Manson continued backing away from Nathanial, trying to give him some space to breath. "Who is Myra?" Nathanial's heart skipped a beat...Myra. That forsaken name...it was her once again.
"I am fine Manson; I am just kind of tired from the work. Not everyone can be strong like you, old man." Nathanial ignored his question. He can't mention her; her history is erased for good. Nathanial put on a smile and got up from the bed. Manson looked older than Nathanial, but in reality, he was much older than him. There was one thing Mason had that Nathanial could never have, which was the feeling dying. To a human the idea of internal life may be a bliss. However, a person who has lived on since the beginning of time, death would be a gift. Manson seemed pleased with Nathanial's answer and patted him on the back forgetting the fact that his question about her was ignored.
"It's a big day tomorrow lad. We both are in charge to escort the girl to the estate. Lady Clarkson is too sick to come down from her bed and Hover already made it clear that he doesn't even want her in the house." Manson continued with the agenda for tomorrow. Nathanial half heartily listened because it really didn't matter much to him. One way or another he must do his job. It didn't matter what the reason was.
"Manson, I have to go somewhere but I will be back to escort the girl to the estate tomorrow." Nathanial cut in before Manson could continue. He grabbed his saddle and decided to take Rasco with him.
Manson placed a hand on Nathanial's shoulder and stopped him on his track. "Boy, where do you think you are going at this hour of the night? If Hover or Lady Clarkson were to find out that you are going out of the estate at an hour like this, he would sack you from your job, boy."
"Manson, its fine the Clarkson wouldn't know, and I can take care of myself. By the way, I am taking Rasco with me. I hope there is no use for him until tomorrow." Nathanial say as he walks over to the door, opening it.
"That horse, take it no one else but you can control him. To everyone else, he is a nightmare." Manson calls out as Nathanial walks out the door, closing it quietly behind him.
Rasco was a white mare with a goldish white long mane. He wasn't a horse that anyone could control. He was one of the best racehorses the Clarkson owned, but no one could control him, except for Nathanial. Nathanial had the ability to make him obey him with one look. The animals knew who he was. Nathanial walked into the stable placing his saddle on the horse. He got on the horse and began his ride to his destination. Tonight was a night he was summoned by the council.

The cool night air stung against Nathanial's skin as he raced across the countryside heading toward the woods. The air was getting more overpowering as Nathanial made his way toward the mountainside cutting past the thick forest. Nathanial came across a path covered by thick mist. He was finally here.

Nathanial decided it was finally time that he left Rasco below and made his way to the secret passage. Nathanial walked through the mist as the air around him became thinner and thinner by the second. A human would die from the lack of air. Nathanial finally made it to the edge of one world and entering a new one. Demon Mountain.
As the Observer, Nathanial had no right to take sides on the affairs of the underworld and humanity. He was simply given the task to observe the world until it's end. Many species came and vanished right in front of his eyes but Nathanial had no choice but to let them perish and wait for life to continue. It was the way of life, each has its own time. But his own time was timeless, he was a timeless tale.
Nathanial was in the mountains this hour of the night to meet with the councils of the underworld. The head of every existing species of the underworld would be there, from demons to werewolves to witches to vampires. The underworld has known about his whereabouts for a millennium. Nathanial stayed away from their business, yet they seem to call upon him every night on a full moon. Today, like any other full moon night, he had to meet the leaders of the different clans in the underworld. Nathanial gripped on to the rocks and pulled himself up. He could see far ahead some light was coming from an opening of a cave. An eerie light was coming from within the cave.

High up this was hidden from the eyes of humans, even though for humans finding this place would cost them a price. If a human did pass by, they would have thought this cave was empty since cobwebs covered the entrance. However, witches enchanted those spider webs as soon as one removes the cobwebs they began to reform again. But if the webs weren't enough to keep them away from the poisonous air around the mountain will surely kill them. Nathanial removed the spider webs covering the opening of the cave and walked in. He could hear voices coming from the far end of the cavern. Looks like everyone had arrived already.
