Chapter Four
Luckily for him (or so he thought), Yoongi didn't see Jimin again until almost the end of the day when he found him leaning against his locker before sixth period.
When he saw him, Jimin stepped away from Yoongi's locker in order to let him unlock it and shuffle around his books. Yoongi could feel Jimin's eyes on him the whole time.
"What?" he asked, finally looking up at him.
Yoongi almost immediately recoiled. Jimin's eyes were narrowed and dangerous looking.
"Where are the notes?"
"Uh, here," Yoongi said, pulling them out of one of his notebooks. Jimin snatched them away.
He busied himself with putting the notes into his own bag. Once he was finished, he looked at Yoongi again.
"Don't you ever call me your friend again," he hissed threateningly.
Yoongi's brow furrowed. "Wha – "
"I didn't have you do my homework in order to ruin my reputation, you fucking idiot."
Yoongi was still confused. "I didn't – "
"Then why have I been being asked by everyone and their dog when I became friends with you?"
Yoongi though back through the day, wondering what the hell Jimin was talking about. He searched his brain, before eventually coming back to first period, when he had explained to the teacher that he was taking notes for –
"Fuck."
Jimin snorted indignantly. "What the hell were you thinking?"
"I-I... It slipped out. I didn't think Mrs. Lee would question me further when I told her they were for a friend."
Jimin laughed a humorless laugh. "Of course she would," he almost shouted. "You don't have any friends!"
Yoongi looked down. "I-I'm sorry, Ji – "
"Don't you dare say my name!" Jimin snapped, as he banged his fist against the lockers. When he did, all three of his lackeys appeared out of nowhere. They formed a semi-circle around Yoongi and Jimin.
"I had half a mind to make them leave you alone for the rest of the day, even after I'd left. But you just can't let anyone have nice things, can you?"
Yoongi looked around at the other three. Hwang and Junho were grinning. Garam looked ready to pounce.
"P-Please," Yoongi uncharacteristically begged. "I didn't mean – "
"Do whatever you want," Jimin said as he turned around and walked away.
Yoongi stared at his back until it occurred to him that Jimin was talking to them, not him. He didn't even take the time to look at the other three before he took off, running as fast as he could. Jimin was walking with all of the poise of a leader, his head held high. Yoongi ran straight past him, doing everything he could to get to the front doors of the school before any of the others did.
Jimin watched as the four passed him, and he smiled a crooked smile that could only be described as full of malice as Yoongi made it to the doors with Junho, Hwang and Garam on his tail. To his credit, Yoongi had almost made it out the gates of the schoolyard before Junho's hand shot out and latched onto the hood of Yoongi's jacket before pulling him down to the ground.
Jimin laughed as the boys began throwing punches as he continued walking to the parking lot. Jimin had a car. Because of course he did. Everything was beneath Jimin, including walking and taking the bus.
The last thing Jimin saw before he turned to exit the school parking lot, was Yoongi back on his feet, running down the street with his hoodie and one shoe missing, and three very vicious looking boys on his tail yet again.
-
The only thing Yoongi could think about as Jimin's friends were pounding their fists against his body was hoping his mother wasn't home. She worked, and so he doubted she'd be there. But, she'd shown up the day before. So, Yoongi was concerned she might be there today as well.
He'd never had to worry about such things before, as this was the first time he'd ever been followed home. He'd slowed down just very briefly as he made it to the gates of the schoolyard because he wasn't expecting to be followed further. And he never gained enough momentum after that to keep the bullies fully at bay. He'd break free, but they'd catch him again quickly. And now Yoongi was beginning to not know what to do.
What would happen when he made it home? Would they try to break in if he managed to get inside? Should he even go home? He wasn't keen on them knowing where he lived. He was very protective of his family, and what if the boys ever came around again when Yoongi wasn't there...
"Oof!"
Garam landed a swift kick into Yoongi's gut. Kicking was new, and Yoongi couldn't say he was a fan. He tried to push himself up off the ground, but Junho pushed him back down with his own foot. He pinned Yoongi's head against the ground with it and laughed.
"Had enough yet?"
Yoongi looked up at him. "Yes," he said emphatically, not even bothering to try to keep a hold of his dignity anymore. Hwang stood to the side and laughed.
"It's what you get," he sneered down at Yoongi. "for saying shit about me this morning."
Yoongi grit his teeth. He had a comeback, but didn't want to egg them on further for the time being. Junho seemed to sense this and pushed down harder on Yoongi's head. "Got nothing to say now, huh?"
Yoongi glared up at him, but managed to keep his mouth shut.
Suddenly, Hwang's phone began ringing, the other two boys looked over at him as he answered.
"Hey, Jimin."
Yoongi tuned out, taking advantage of the distraction to get as good a look at his surroundings as possible. He could see the corner of his house down the street.
"What are you guys doing?"
Everyone except Junho stepped off of and away from Yoongi to pay extra attention to the call on speaker.
"You'd love the view if you were here," Hwang answered, and all three of them laughed.
"You're still with the fag?" Jimin's voice asked disbelievingly. "I'd have thought you'd have gotten bored by now."
"No!" Junho replied gleefully as he finally removed his foot from Yoongi's head. "We – "
"Whatever, just hurry up. I'm sick of playing games by myself."
The line on the phone went dead, and the three looked around at each other. "Uh..."
Yoongi gathered all the energy he had left and suddenly pounced up. He took off running toward his house before the others even realized what was happening. "Hey!"
Yoongi made it halfway up the walk to his front door when the boys caught up to him. Hwang's fist shot out, but just barely missed contact.
"What do you boys think you're doing?" Yoongi's elderly neighbor called out from his front porch as Yoongi struggled to unlock the door.
"Mind your own business, old man!" Garam shouted back.
It was a long enough distraction to allow Yoongi to get inside and lock the door behind him. He peeked out the front window, terrified the boys would begin harassing his sweet neighbor. But all they did was laugh and walk away. Yoongi watched them until they were out of sight.
He exhaled a deep breath, then turned and headed up the stairs to his room. When he got there, he dropped the belongings he'd managed to keep a hold of onto his bed, then headed into the bathroom. He began stripping, turning around again and again in front of the mirror, examining the large scratches and bruises that were appearing all over his body. He then looked up at his face in the mirror and groaned.
One of them had managed to punch him in the nose so, for the second time that day, he took to cleaning up the blood on his face and gingerly touching his nose. He sighed. It was broken.
Yoongi trudged into his bedroom and put on some sweatpants and a t-shirt. He sighed again as he sat down on his bed and opened his backpack. Two of his notebooks were missing. All of his notes and homework for Korean and History were gone.
Yoongi set everything aside and stared, unseeing, at the wall in front of him. It was finally hitting him just how unhappy he was. He wished he had a friend – or anyone – who he could talk to about his feelings. His parents were wonderful and extremely understanding. He knew he could talk to them if he wanted. But they would only be concerned, and the last thing he wanted to do was worry them. His mother cried at the drop of a hat when it came to him and his issues. He just couldn't do that to her again.
Tears filled Yoongi's eyes, but he quickly wiped them away. No. He would not cry about Jimin and his lackeys. They didn't deserve his tears. Yoongi decided to just lay down and try to sleep. There was nothing else he could do for the time being anyway.
His head hit the pillow, and he was just about to close his eyes when they fell on something on his bedside table. The small pamphlet his mother had found the day before, untouched since she'd given it to him, lie there. Yoongi stared at it for a few moments before finally pushing himself up on his elbow and reaching for it. He flipped through it and sighed.
He reached for his phone and made a split-second decision to call the number at the bottom of the last page. He had a feeling in the pit of his stomach that he may regret this decision later, but he did his best to ignore it.
"Hello?"
"Um, hi. I got this number from a pamphlet – "
"Yes! Would you like to join the support group?"
Yoongi paused for a moment. Then, "Yes, please."
