Chapter 143

Most people would be concerned when one of the city's superheroes popped unexpectedly at their illegal alien fight club. Veronica Sinclair, aka Roulette, wasn't most people. She saw an opportunity to make a lot of money. If there was one thing the people loved more than alien on alien violence, it was the classic fight between a hero and villain. Especially since if her research was correct, this was a rematch grudge match from the last time Dreamer and Nightmare fought. Besides, Dreamer was no Supergirl, who, according to Roulette's intel, was currently offworld on some space mission and her little sidekicks Powergirl, or as she was calling herself now, Virtue, and Darkstarr, weren't anything she was worried about.

But this was gold. She'd make a fortune off this fight, regardless of the winner and Dreamer did win, then Roulette had a new headliner.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it appears we have an unexpected treat for you here tonight. Our reigning champion Nightmare may finally have found an opponent who can give her a challenge. Since we have a real hero in our midst. In the blue corner, we have National City's up and coming new superhero, Dreamer. And in the red corner is our reigning champion, Nightmare. This fight will determine which is stronger. Dreams or nightmares. Betting is now open." Roulette said with a grin as Dreamer looked up at her.

"You want us to fight. Fine. Just be careful what you wish for." Dreamer said as she moved too quickly to blast Nightmare, who barely managed to dodge her blue dream energy and return fire with her red nightmare energy.

"You're gonna have to do better than that weakling. Time to show you why nightmares are superior." Nightmare said as she unleashed a wave of pure red nightmare energy at her opponent, who just barely had enough to throw up a shield to protect herself and even then, it pushed her back and actually tore up her suit a bit in the process.

"Okay, now you've pissed me off." Dreamer said, though it was clear that Nightmare had learned a few new tricks since the last time they'd fought.

"What are you gonna do about it? After all, you're just a dreamer and not even a good one. You may have robbed me of my destiny, but I found a new one." Nightmare said and that was when Dreamer finally put the pieces together.

"Maeve, is that you?" Dreamer asked softly, unable to believe that her older sister had been reduced to the very evil she'd once sworn to oppose when she became the Dreamer.

"That's right sis. I've become something even greater than the Dreamer. And after I kill you, I'll kill that brat of a little sister who mocks me by somehow developing dream powers too." Nightmare said and the second she heard her little sister being threatened, Dreamer's vision went blue.

Literally as her eyes began to glow with bright blue light and her hands began generating huge amounts of dream energy.

"You'll never touch her." Dreamer said she unleashed a far greater surge of dream energy than anything she'd ever unleashed before, not just from her hands, but from every pore in her body, creating a blinding flash of blue light that encompassed the entire arena while knocking Nightmare back.

"What the?" Nightmare asked as the light faded to reveal her sister standing on her feet, her suit not only repaired, but upgraded, Dreamer looking more powerful than ever.

"Guess I just leveled up." Dreamer said as she took a moment to look down and appreciate her new suit.

It was now a deep blue now almost cosmic, shimmering like a living night sky as soft cyan lines traced across it like flowing energy. A radiant, star-like emblem pulsed at her chest, the core of it all, while the armor itself had refined into something sleeker and perfectly fitted. Her mask was sharper, glowing faintly around the eyes, giving her an otherworldly presence, and around her, ribbons of pastel energy drifted through the air—alive and responsive. (See my discord, link in my fanfiction bio to see an image of the suit).

"Doesn't matter, you're still no match for me." Nightmare said as she attempted to blast her sister again, but Dreamer easily conjured up a shield to block the blast and then took it one step further by creating a dream energy lash that she used the grab her sister's ankle and pull her off her feet before using her free hand to create another one to swing herself out of there before getting on her comms.

"It's play time." Dreamer said and with no further ado, the ceiling caved in as Virtue and Darkstar came crashing through it, along with Brainy leading a combination of a DEO strike team and the NCPD. But Dreamer was surprised to see Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter appear to.

"Wasn't expecting you two to show, since this isn't your town anymore." Dreamer said.

"This is a DEO operation, no way we're not involved. Plus, we're covering for Supergirl while she's offworld, but thankfully, she'll be back in a few days and I'm planning on telling her that you're ready. But for now, let's get this wrapped up." Green Lantern said and Dreamer nodded as she used her dream lasso to restrain her sister.

"Manhunter, I could use a favor." Dreamer said to the Martian.

"What is it?" J'onn asked her.

"It turns out Nightmare is none other than my jealous older sister Maeve. I can't throw her in a DEO cell or Belle Reve as long as she knows my secrets. And not just mine, but my whole family's. Do you think you can alter her memories?" Dreamer asked, wishing she didn't have to do this, but she had no choice, since Maeve was too dangerous to let roam free, but she knew too much to put her in prison.

"No, something is shielding her mind from my powers." J'onn said.

"There is an alternative. Since she is half alien, I can take her to be locked up in a science cell on Oa, since it holds criminals that are way more dangerous than her. Unless you want to send her to the phantom zone." Green Lantern offered as Dreamer looked at her sister.

"Take her to Oa. She might've lost her mind, but considering everything Supergirl's told us about the Phantom Zone, I can't send her there. She's not that bad. Maybe on Oa, the Guardians can rehabilitate her." Dreamer said and Green Lantern nodded.

"I'll take her as soon as we've gotten everything else wrapped up." Green Lantern said and Dreamer nodded as she blasted her sister again.

"Sweet dreams Maeve. Need to make sure you stay out until you're safely contained." Dreamer said, though she wondered how she was going to tell her parents about this.
