Chapter 9

I saw James turn around, eyes wandering as usual, a huge problem of his when he was back in school, when he spotted me.

“Cam-may!” He yelled, smiling and waving wildly. I started laughing and picked up my pace.

“James!”

“Your hair is funny.” James said instantly once I reached him. I patted my hair and it felt poofy.

“What does it look like?” I wasn’t too sure I wanted to know.

“Like a really weird afro.” He said, still staring at my hair. Groaning, I searched my pockets for a hair tie or clip or something. Then I remembered the ponytail holder on my wrist. Smiling with relief, I pulled my hair into a quick bun.

“Does it still look funny?” I asked James.

“Do you want me to get one of our hairstylists to do your hair? I mean, it would be no big deal.”

“Nah, that’s alright, just tell me if I look relatively normal now.” He just shrugged.

“Yeah, you look relatively normal. I think your eyes were watering from the wind though. Your mascara’s all down your cheeks.” I glared at him.

“Exactly how terrible do I look right now?” He snickered.

“Pretty terrible.”

“Thanks man. Good to know.” I said, with a flat voice. Did I have anything to wipe my face with? I opened my bag and started searching, only being able to find my Monster, sketchpad, iPod, and phone.

“Oi, James, what are you doing over here?” Liam emerged out of nowhere, Gemma trailing with a lost puppy look going on nicely.

“Talking to Cam.” James replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Hey Camille!” Liam said brightly as he came into full view. “Whoa, is something wrong? Are you crying?” He suddenly looked very concerned and it hurt my heart a little bit. In the good way.

“No, it’s the stupid wind. It made my eyes water and James here just told me I have makeup all down my cheeks.”

“It’s not like it’s a lot of makeup. It’s just a couple stripes. I’ve seen worse. Some people’s makeup runs like a river and turns their entire face black and splotchy.” James said, and I could have sworn I saw him do a quick glance to Gemma.

“Here, you can use this.” Gemma suddenly whipped out a pack of baby wipes from her bag that she was carrying.

“Why do you have baby wipes in your bag?” Liam asked, voicing mine and James’ looks of confusion.

“Germs. And they’re good for emergencies like this. Shut up.” She said sharply, quickly handing me a wipe. I quickly swabbed all over my cheeks and under my eyes.

“Better?” I turned to Gemma, knowing James wouldn’t say anything if there was so he could laugh and Liam would probably do the same.

“Here.” She grabbed the wipe in one hand and my face in her other as she quickly wiped apparent places that I missed. How on earth was there mascara by my ear? Seriously. How did that happen?

“So Cam, what have you been doing since lunch?” James asked, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his puffy jacket.

“Started touring the lot with Mom and Finch, wasn’t paying attention so I wandered off again, and then Ava found me and we went and had tea in her trailer.”

“How do you wander off so easily?”

“I don’t know! One second I’m listening to some boring fact of how the costume trailer is for the costumes and the next I’m on the other side of the lot.”

“Did Finch actually say that the costume trailer is for the costumes?” Liam asked, the corners of his mouth twitching up.

“Yeah, I mean, I may not know everything about movies, but I’m pretty sure I could have figured that one out.”

“Oh man, she did the same thing when my family came to set on the last film I did.”

“Finch was working on that one too?” Gemma asked, seeming very surprised.

“Finch and I go way back.” Liam nodded thoughtfully. “Actually, I think she was working as an intern on one of my films two or three years ago, she’s come a long way.”

“What exactly is her job title or description? Giving tours to celebrities family? Bringing people coffee? Smiling at ungodly hours of the morning?” It really didn’t seem like she had a real job at all. Liam and James laughed, but Gemma remained rather stoic. Oh come on, it was a little funny and true.

“Nobody knows.” Liam said. “I mean, I’m sure she does very important things behind the scenes, like paperwork or media control, but for the most part, what you just said is all we’ve seen her do.”

“Why hasn’t anyone asked her?” I inquired. All their faces went blank as if it was an obvious idea to do that, but just nobody bothered. “Would it be weird if I asked her?”

“She might talk forever, Cam.” James told me. “You ask her anything, she’ll give you more information than necessary.”

“But you’re all curious, aren’t you?” James, Gemma, and Liam all quickly glanced at each other and shared quick inquisitive nods.

“Yeah, I suppose so.” Liam said.

“Perfect, then I will ask her and you won’t have to go through the pain of her lecture. Sound good, yeah?”

“That’s, like, the bravest thing I have ever heard of.” James said.

“What can I say? I’m a courageous spirit.”

“Camille, I salute you.” Liam faux saluted with a straight face, but I could see he couldn’t hold it for long. Soon, the edges of his lips started twitching and the next thing I knew he was snickering to himself, trying to pull himself together.

“You know, I thought actors are supposed to be able to not break character.” Liam sobered up and quickly defended himself, “Hey, I am very good actor. I’m just not trying right now.” I was about to protest, saying that a good actor shouldn’t have to try, when a stagehand rushed over to where we were standing.

“Hawthorne, Everett, White, let’s go. You’re needed.” He barked.

“What do you mean? Ava and Carson just started.” Gemma said. It did seem a little strange they were needed so soon.

“Vic says that they only needed one take. Let’s go, we’re doing your first encounter with Mr. Z. All of you are needed.” All of them instantly jumped to action, stripping off their heavy coats, throwing them to nearby crew members as touch up makeup artists rushed to their sides to make sure they looked alright.

“Hey Cammie.” I heard James, but I couldn’t find him in the momentary rush of getting them ready.

“James, where’d you go?”

“Right here. Look, I’m waving my hand.” I saw a hand furiously waving over a group of people so I made my way over there.

“What’s up?” I asked, just as the stylists got out of the way and started pushing James towards the set.

“You can stay and watch. Bonnie here will take you to the edge of the set so you can watch and not be in the way.” A woman, I’m guessing Bonnie, smiled brightly at me as she continued to push James along. “Because, seriously, nobody wants to stay in the Zone to watch filming with Finch. It’s not as exciting as being right on the set.”

“Alright, sounds fine.” James smiled and bid me a quick ‘see you later’ and then he was joining everyone else on the set.

“So, where do we go?” I turned to Bonnie, who was quickly assuring someone in her headset that James was on set. She waved her hand in a motion to follow her as she maneuvered through cameras and other stagehands and crew members. I couldn’t see all this from the Zone televisions. All I saw from there, was what they were filming. Nobody knew how busy it all was behind the cameras and suddenly I was feeling overwhelmed. Bonnie wasn’t helping the situation, barking orders to certain people and responding to orders herself. How could anyone deal with this kind of stress?

“So you’re James’ little sister?” Bonnie asked and, for the first time, I realized she was Scottish.

“Yeah, Camille.”

“It’s nice to meet you. Now, you’ll sit here and - I told you, he is already on set! Use your eyes!” Bonnie shouted into her headset, scaring me half to death. “Sorry. Anyway, you can sit here. Do you need anything, something to drink, or...”

“No, I’ll be fine. Don’t want to bother you any longer.” I felt my stomach grumble in hunger, considering I had only had tea in Ava’s trailer and lunch was several hours ago.

“Sweetie, that’s why we have interns. I could hear your stomach from here, so I’ll get someone to bring you a sandwich or something. Enjoy!” Bonnie quickly waved a goodbye and then she turned off to return to her job.

“Thanks Bonnie!” She didn’t turn, she simply stuck her hand in the air and waved it off like it was nothing. It was then that I truly took in my surroundings. I was on the edge of all the cameras and hustle-bustle, but from where the actors were standing in an open field, I had a clear view of everything. A car stood parked way off to the side, a creepy looking character sitting inside, waiting to hear the words action. James, Liam, and Carter stood clustered together, while Ava and Gemma were wandering around. I wasn’t exactly sure what they were doing.

“Everybody on their marks!” I heard a man yell through a giant megaphone. “Is Dave ready to go?” I looked over to the car where I saw the man give him a thumbs up. The megaphone man was quickly reminding everyone what was happening and I watched in awe as everyone on set simply looked somewhat bored. It was the first day of shooting, how were they already bored? I could see the boys making offhand comments, which they were all trying to cover their laughter as the girls were just shaking their heads. “Oi! Lads, stop laughing.” Megaphone man yelled again, causing the boys to nearly lose it. A person ran out in front of the cameras with a clapperboard and I could hear her say, “A marker! Scene 9, Take 1.” She clapped the board a few times, repeating the words for each camera and then she ran off.

Just as my sandwich arrived, megaphone man shouted out, “And, action!”

It was fascinating to say the least. I watched in awe as the people I knew instantly melted away, being replaced with fearless spies. The boys’ laughter was swallowed, leaving them looking tough and ready for a fight. In fact, it was a little bit frightening how real they looked. But I suppose that was the point. They needed to look strong and brave and hot. And let me tell you, they did. That sounds awkward, including my brother in that group, but in that instance, I didn’t even recognize James. No, at that moment, I was looking at Xavier, the young spy. Ava sat on the hood of a different car, while Gemma wiped down a gun. That was a sight I definitely didn’t know what to do with. Everyone simply looked so in tune with each other.

Then I noticed the camera crane, swooping in as the car ripped across the field. I watched everyone’s faces change from focusing on whatever their menial task was, to suddenly being very concerned at who was coming. Ava hopped off the car, while Gemma threw the cloth she was using to the ground as she aimed and pointed her gun at the car. The boys whipped out their guns, except Carson. For some reason he held about a half dozen of knives to his side.

I watched in awe for the next few minutes as the sweet people I knew, were threatening and pointing guns at the creepy man. He didn’t physically look creepy, it was just his attitude and the way that he walked from person to person, speaking softly as if he had the whole situation under control. James looked like he was fuming as the creep spoke to him, but then I saw James’ lip twitch upwards as if he wanted to laugh. I couldn’t quite see the creeps face, but then James’ face kept twisting in weird contortions. Suddenly, he was doubled over in laughter and the entire cast lost it, laughing at some unsaid joke. Everyone’s strong personas melted away as they laughed, wiping fake tears from their eyes.

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” James yelled back to the megaphone man. “Dave was doing this creepy laugh and I just couldn’t hold it in.”

“It’s alright, reset! From the top!” Dave went back to his car and drove it away as everyone went right back to their previous positions.

Being so intrigued by everything, I whipped out my Monster and started snapping pictures of the following scenes. I took pictures of the actors, I took pictures of crew members, I even took a picture of my sandwich. After an hour or so of filming, the sky started getting darker and a clap of thunder rang out. Everyone looked up at the sky as the clouds started rolling in faster and I felt a raindrop on my forehead. Megaphone man looked angrily at the sky and then called out, “Alright everyone, that’s a wrap for the day! Good work today and we’ll see you here tomorrow at the original call time!” Instantly, everyone started running around like chickens with their heads cut off, grabbing coats and putting covers on all the equipment that couldn’t be hustled away. Joining the rush to get out of the rain, I packed away my camera and started looking for cover.

“Hey Cam!” James yelled over everyone’s orders.

“What’s up?” I asked as he reached me, pushing a few people aside.

“I need to go get out of my costume. The Zone is right over there, go find Mom and I’ll meet up with you guys in a bit, ‘kay?” I nodded as James took off to the costume trailer and I headed towards the big tent. I eventually found my way to the tent and Mom was sitting in on a couch, drinking her tea, while Finch was rattling off some facts about how, although some cameras are made so they can film in rain and underwater, the cameras that they were currently using weren’t used for that.

“Hey Mom.” I said, stopping Finch from boring my mother to death. I don’t think I could live without my mommy.

“Cammie! Where have you been these past few hours?” She set her tea down on the coffee table and looked at me expectantly.

“Wandered off again, but Ava took care of me. I was watching the filming from the sidelines. And James is just getting out of his costume, so he’ll be right here.”

“Great! I’ll call Rick to come pick us up. I’m thinking chicken tonight for dinner, sound good?” I nodded in approval as my mom dialed the number. The Zone was slowly filling with lots of people, all heading for coffee and tea to warm up their drenched bodies from the now pouring rain. James followed the stream until he spotted me on the couch and then he plopped down beside me, Liam trailing along.

“So did you enjoy the up close experience of filming?” James asked, stealing a scone off the coffee table.

“Yeah! It was really cool. I mean, watching the same scene twenty times gets a little redundant, but I had my Monster, so it was all good.”

“Your... monster?” Liam asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Cam likes taking random pictures of anything and everything, so we got her a camera last Christmas.”

“I didn’t know you were into photography!” Liam said.

“How would you? I don’t exactly go around announcing that I take pictures of the randomest of things. And besides, I’m not really into photography, per se. I just like taking pictures.”

“Can I see your photos?” He asked, seeming kind of hopeful.

“HA. No.” I deadpanned. There were too many pictures in my camera of him at that moment, so he would have to wait.

“Aw, please Cammie?”

“Whoa, you aren’t allowed to call me Cammie. That’s a special name, reserved for special times and special people.” Cammie had always been a name used around my family and my closest friends. While Liam did use it at a perfect time, he wasn’t quite at that stage where he could toss that name in.

“Ouch.” He said, pretending to be offended.

“It’s true.” James said, coming to make the situation a little better. “One of my friends called her that after they just met and Cam wasn’t too thrilled about it. You’ll know when you’re allowed to use it.” James patted Liam’s shoulder in mock comfort and I wanted to laugh at him.

“Alright kids, Rick’s here, let’s go.” Mom said, tapping her phone against her palm.

“Oh, right, Mom. Is it alright if Liam stays over? He lives on the other side of town and our house is closer to set and it’s kind of later and-” James began.

“Sure, no problem.” Mom said, shrugging. My heart kind of stopped for a moment as I looked at my mom with wide eyes. Liam. Spending then night. Possibly in the room next to me. Uh. I’m not sure this is a good idea.

“Sick! Alright, let’s go.” James said, as we started walking towards the door.

“Don’t you need like, a toothbrush or change of clothes or something?” I asked. I knew for a fact that whenever one of my friends came over, she would bring a giant duffle bag with multiple pairs of clothes ‘just in case’.

“We’re guys, Cam. We sleep in our boxers and can wear the same thing every day for a week.” James told me.

“That’s gross. And probably really smelly.” I noted. Liam pulled his shirt to his nose.

“No, I smell ok. And this is only day three!” My face distorted into a disgusted look.

“Ew. Guys. Stay away from me.” The boys simply laughed as we pushed the door open and ran out into the rain towards the gate. We spotted Rick’s car, and as soon as we saw it, James and I gave each other a knowing look and bolted for the car. I don’t know why I always decided racing James was a good idea. Maybe it was because I did cross-country for a few years and believed I was a great runner. However, James’ legs were ten times longer than mine, not to mention stronger, so he always beat me. Not to mention I was grasping my heavy bag, trying not to get the contents wet or hit my leg. Then I noticed another body starting to pass me and I looked to my side to see Liam.

“No!” I yelled, pushing myself harder, trying to get to the car before him. James already had a bit of a lead, but I had to try to beat Liam. James looked back with an evil smirk, when he stumbled, losing his footing slightly. I laughed wildly, as I passed him and touched the door handle and yelled, “Shotgun! Ha! Losers!” I whipped the door open and sat in the front as I saw Rick giving me a bemused look. Looking back out the window, I saw James glaring at me and Liam simply laughed. Wiggling further into my seat and snapping the seatbelt on, I smiled triumphantly to myself, when I then heard a soft knock on the window. I looked out to see my mom with a raised eyebrow. My face changed to realization. The mom always got shotgun and everyone knew it. I groaned and unbuckled the seatbelt and got out of the car.

“Not fair, Carol. Not fair.” Mom merely laughed, sliding into the seat, saying, “Shotgun. Ha. Loser.”

“That’s just cruel.” I told her and she laughed more. I turned to face the boys who were about to get into the backseat, before James turned to me.

“Cam gets middle!”

No!” I cried, dramatically.

“You’re the smallest.”

“Not my fault you guys are fat.” I groaned as I slid into the middle seat.

“That’s not very nice, Cam.” Liam told me. Once we were all in, Rick drove off, making small talk with my mom as I sat squished between two wet bodies. But I couldn’t get the thought out of my head that one of those bodies was Liam and he was spending the night. It wasn’t like anything big or dramatic would happen, but just the fact that he’d be next door made me a little queasy. I shook the worry out. It was going to be fine. I would just stick to myself in my room, doodle, and edit photos and the boys would... do whatever it is that boys do when they have a sleepover. It was a mystery of the world, but I wasn’t to keen to find out anyway.

Rick eventually pulled up to our house and the boys both bolted out, yelling, “I call first shower!”

Needless to say, it would be an interesting evening.

Hey my lovelies! How are you all today? I was feeling creative, so this update is up a little earlier than all my other ones! Yay! Plus it's longer and has Liam and oh my gosh, I feel so proud of myself! Just kidding, but still :P

So thank you all for reading and remember to vote and fan and comment and all that lovely Wattpad stuff.

Also! If you have any ideas of who should play Liam, Ava, Gemma, etc. Let me know! I'm working on a cast list!

So far we have Zac Efron for James and Liam Hemsworth for Carson. I am currently debating between Lucy Hale or Melissa Benoist for Cam.

What do you guys think of everyone? Who's your favorite?
