Chapter 10

By the time I got in the house, I could hear the boys arguing over the shower. I rolled my eyes, and headed up the stairs to my room. Grabbing my sweatpants, an oversized tee and underwear, I passed the two boys simply saying, “There’s more than one shower, boys.” I slipped inside and quickly locked the door.

“Whoa! Cam! Not fair, you can’t just do that!” James yelled on the other side

“I just did.” I turned the shower on and heard the collective groan outside as I heard the boys discuss their own shower plans. Stripping down, I stepped into the hot water and let it run over my body. I always thought it was funny how once you got rained on and complained about being wet, you would then go take a hot shower and simply get... wetter. Logic. What is it? Trying not to steal all the hot water, I made my shower short and whipped my hair up in a towel and got into my warm lounge wear. Shaking my wet hair out of the towel, I listened at the door to see if I could hear the boys upstairs, but when I heard nothing I opened the door and bolted to my room. Tonight, I didn’t feel like seeing the boys. No, at that moment, I needed to talk to my best friends. Flipping my laptop open and calculating timezones, I quickly messaged Becca and told her to grab Riley to video call me. The reply was instant as my computer made a noise signifying someone just logged on. I didn’t waste a moment. Pressing the ‘video call’ button, I waited until I saw two very familiar faces. Becca, with her tight, curly black hair, mocha skin, and brown eyes and Riley, dark copper hair fading into a light color, pale skin, and green eyes shining bright.

“Cam-mee!” Becca yelled, the moment our cameras both started working.

“Becs! Riley! Ah! I’ve missed your faces so much!” I hugged my computer screen, hoping they’d get the message that I was attempting to hug them.

“Yeah, sorry, school has been building up and everything, but now! It’s spring break here!” Riley told me, flashing the computer to the sun outside.

“Wow, sun in Oregon, impressive.” I noted.

“Oh shut up. This place is bipolar, you know that.”

“Yeah, I know. But Riley! You dyed your hair! I love it.”

“It’s nothing special. I wanted it blonde, but my parents held a strict ‘no’. But enough about my hair, how’s England?” Riley asked me, putting on a really terrible posh accent.

“This is kind of the reason I really needed to urgently talk to you. Wait, let me get headphones.” I searched my bag until I found them and plugged them in.

“So what’s up?” Riley asked.

“Ok, whatever I tell you, you are not allowed to scream. Even if I almost did, you are not allowed. You will blow out my eardrums.” Becca rolled her eyes.

“Cam, we don’t scream. We’re very mature adults.” I snorted. “We are!”

“Well, for five minutes, you aren’t going to be.”

“Is that a bet?” Riley taunted.

“Yup, I bet you each a Stumptown coffee that you will act like a little kid when I tell you what happened.”

“Alright, shoot. What happened?” Riley waved her hand as if this wasn’t important.

“I met a guy.” I said and their faces didn’t change much.

“Is he hot?” Becca asked.

“That’s the understatement of the century.”

“Oh really?”

“Yeah, but he’s not just hot. He’s really sweet and funny, and yeah, he kind of charmed my decision in an argument today, however, he’s awesome. And he’s also currently at my house spending the night with James.”

“Ooh, I like him. Is he British?” Riley asked. I nodded and then feigned a realization face.

“Wait, actually, you guys already know him!” They both looked confused.

“Cam, we have never met a Brit.”

“Yeah, we’re kind of confined in all things ‘Murica.”

“But you do know him. Like, James works with him, so you don’t personally know him. But you know of him.” I said, hoping they would start catching the hint.

“Wait, so he’s a British actor?” Becca asked and I nodded.

“He’s really hot...” Riley said, putting puzzle pieces in place.

“And we know him.” Becca added, giving Riley another piece. Suddenly both their eyes widened and their mouths dropped.

“It can’t be...”

“Are you trolling us, Cam?”

“What do you mean? I didn’t even tell you the guy’s name.”

“If you are talking about Mr. Perfect from when we were kids, I might fly to London just to strangle you.” Riley told me.

“Wow, violent.”

“You aren’t denying it! Oh my gosh, it is Mr. Perfect!” Becca’s eyes widened. I shrugged, but I couldn’t hold it anymore and my smile erupted.

“You guys, I freakin’ met Liam Hawthorne.” Both their faces looked shocked and then they both started screaming and laughing.

“No way! No way! Cam, oh my gosh, can we meet him? I want to meet him!” Becca started shouting.

“So wait! He’s in your house right now? And he’s spending the night? Cam!”

“You guys owe me Stumptown.”

“This is not the time for debts to be paid!” Riley said loudly, “This is the time to meet an absolutely gorgeous Liam Hawthorne!”

“Oh, what am I supposed to do, walk out of my room, find Liam, and be like, ‘Hey man, what’s up? These are my best friends who I obsessed with about you when we were younger. Care to say hi?’” I rolled my eyes. “Yeah guys, great plan.”

“That’s exactly what we want you to do! Except, just leave out that we obsessed about him.” Becca said.

“Not happening ladies. But can I just tell you that he’s even better in person?”

Becca groaned in frustration. “I am so jealous of you right now.”

“Come visit me and you’ll meet him yourself!”

“Oh yeah, because a flight to Europe is so cheap these days.” Riley said sarcastically.

“But in all honesty, do you like him? Are you guys going to get married and have those six babies you were always dreaming about?” I face-palmed myself.

“You guys, I just met him. Yeah, he’s funny and charming and extraordinarily good-looking, but nah, I don’t like him.”

“Oh, but you do. You’re just denying it.” Becca said.

“And you’re being an idiot.”

“Meanie.”

“I love you!” Becca laughed.

“Yeah, I love you too.” I shrugged.

“I know.”

Then there was a knock on my door.

“What?”

“Cam, it’s dinner time.” James said from the other side.

“Can I eat in my room? I’m talking to Becs and Riley.” James decided that was his cue to come in. Entering my room, he took two long strides until he was behind me and leaned over my shoulder.

“Hi!” He yelled into my ear.

“Hey James!” The girls yelled right back, when I forgot that I had headphones and he couldn’t hear. I unplugged them and told them to say it again.

“Shouldn’t you guys be in school?” James asked, looking disappointed in them.

“Spring break!” Riley announced and then showed James the sun outside.

“So, it’s sunny and you’re on spring break, yet you sit inside talking to my sister? You guys are boring.” Riley stuck out her tongue.

“What was that you were saying earlier about being mature?” I asked.

“I have my moments.”

“Anyway! Not that this isn’t super fun or anything, but Cam. Food. Liam will eat it all if we don’t get down there, like, now.” James pointed towards the door. I noted Becca and Riley’s face change when they realized that I was telling the truth about Liam being over.

“Hey Mom! Can I eat in my room?” I yelled.

“Uh, no, why would you ask that?” Mom called back.

“I’m talking to Becs and Riley!” It remained silent, until Mom called back up, “Alright! But just this once.”

“Yes!” James looked at me in disbelief.

“Not fair! I’ve been wanting to eat in my room for years.”

“You don’t have friends that you haven’t talked to in ages.”

“Good to see not everything has changed.” Riley remarked, her eyebrow raised.

“So, I’ll call you back in five minutes, I’m just going to grab food.” I told them.

“No! Take us down with you!” Becca said urgently into the camera.

“Uh, why? I’ll be fast.”

“Because... I want to see your house.” Becca chose her words carefully, as James was still standing there.

“Yeah! I want to see your house too!” Riley replied and I realized they didn’t really care about the house. There was only one thing down there that they really did care about.

“Sure you guys do, alright, let’s go.” I unplugged my computer and walked them down.

“You guys are not allowed to freak out, I don’t have headphones, so he will hear you.” They nodded in agreement, but their faces told a different story.

“So how’s school?” I asked, trying to get them off the idea and hopes that they would see Liam. They began rattling off about their teachers and tests, telling me Junior year was terrible and how they just wanted it all to be over. Setting the laptop down on the counter, I grabbed a plate and started loading up chicken and rice.

“Anyway, then Zach was trying to distract Mr. Phillips from talking more about the relationship between Hamlet and Ophelia, but then Phillips got so angry, he kicked Zach out of class! Oh man, their expressions were priceless, Cam! They were both really red because Zach was embarrassed and Phillips was just fuming.” Riley told me.

“It was pretty fantastic.” Becca added.

“I never liked Phillips.” I said. True, I only had him first semester of Freshman year before we moved out to LA, but he wasn’t the best.

“Yeah, I think he just got worse this year. Not sure.” Becca shrugged.

“Camille, who are you talking to?” I heard Liam say from the dining room.

“My two friends from the States.” I told him, without a second glance. I looked at Riley and Becca’s face, both their eyes wide.

Was that him?” Becca lipped. I nodded and grabbed the broccoli.

“Hi Cam’s friends!” I turned and saw Liam right behind me, waving into the camera. “I’m Liam and I seduced Cam today. I’m going to go eat now, bye!” He smiled triumphantly and I turned sharply.

“You did not seduce me! I told you guys, Green Goblin was the better villain. I would have come to that conclusion with or without you.” I lectured him.

“Keep telling yourself that Cam.”

“I also beat you today when we raced.”

“Yet you still ended up in the middle seat. Don’t see how that’s beating me.” I stuck out my tongue, while Liam and James just laughed.

“I’m going to go eat in peace with my friends. You’re being a bully.”

“I am not!” Liam defended.

“Then be nice.” I told him.

“Alright, I’m sorry Cam. I didn’t mean to be a bully.”

“Sure you didn’t.” I said, taking my plate in one hand and laptop in the other.

“You’re just acting all sour because I’m right about you losing.”

“Whatever, Liam, I’m leaving.” I started up the stairs, when I heard James and Liam yell, “Don’t fall, Cam!” My laptop teetered a little bit and I almost lost a grip of my plate.

“Shut up, you guys, you almost made me drop my stuff!”

“That was the point!” James yelled.

“Bullies!”

“No we’re not!” Liam called back. When I was finally in my room, door shut and everything settled on my desk, I looked back to see Becca and Riley smiling enormously.

“You guys can freak out now, if you’d like.” Both of them started squealing and talking over one another.

“Oh my gosh, that was so cute!”

“Liam’s hotter in real life!”

“You guys are such flirts.”

“This just made my life, oh my gosh.”

“That was nothing, you guys!” I interrupted their craziness.

“N-nothing?” Becca sputtered. “You call that, nothing?”

“You two just full on flirted and had a conversation and he was right behind you and you call that nothing. I would have died on the spot.” Riley said.

“Y’alls are nuts.”

“Oh my gosh, I just... I can’t even right now.” Becca said, placing her head in her hands.

“You can’t even what?” I asked, eyebrow raised.

“Deal with these emotions! I’m having chest pains.” Becca always was the craziest of us fangirls.

“Moving along, I saw Buckingham Palace!” I said, attempting to switch topics.

“Oh my gosh, Cam, you act like we even care.” Riley huffed, falling against the bed.

“Well, what do you want to talk about?”

“Liam! Duh!” Becca said. I sighed.

“What do you want to know?” Both their eyes lit up as they started bombarding me with questions of everything I had learned this past day. I told them of how he took me to the Zone, I told them exactly what he meant when he said that he seduced me. I told them about Carson too, but they never seemed quite as interested in Carson as they did when I had something to add about Liam.

When I finally glanced at the clock, I realized we had been talking for a couple hours and I needed to go to bed. I wasn’t going to the set tomorrow, that could wait awhile, however Mom announced we’d be registering me for a private tutor because two months in a completely different school system would be pointless.

“Hey guys, it’s passed midnight here, I need to sleep.” Both of them groaned.

“Screw sleep and talk with us!” Becca said. I laughed while shaking my head.

“I can’t! I’m going tutor hunting tomorrow with my mom.”

“Have fun with that.” Riley said, giving me a pointed look that she knew it wouldn’t be that great.

“Tell Liam we hope to see him soon!” Becca added.

“Ha. No. Good night.”

“Good night, Cammie! We miss you!” Riley said, blowing a kiss.

“Miss you too! We’ll Skype soon, I promise!”

“Good, nighty night Cam!” Becca waved and I hit the ‘end call’ button. I felt my tummy rumble in hunger and I decided a midnight bowl of cereal would do me some good. Pulling my hair into a quick braid, I headed down the dark stairs, hoping not to wake everyone. All the lights were turned off and I felt my way along the wall until I found the light switch.

“Ugh, turn it off, it’s too bright.” I gasped and fell against the wall, eyes shut as they adjusted to the light change. “Oh jeez, sorry, did I scare you?” I blinked my eyes open and saw Liam sitting at the island, looking ready to come help me in case I hurt myself when I crashed again the wall.

“Why are you eating in the dark?” I asked.

“I didn’t want anybody to wake up. Was I really that loud?”

“No, I just finished Skyping my friends.” He raised an eyebrow.

“It’s midnight. You’ve been Skyping them for three hours.” He stated facts that I already knew.

“Yeah, I also haven’t talked to them in, like, two months.” I shuffled through the cupboards until I found a bowl, spoon, and my favorite cereal.

“Ah, you’re a sugary cereal person.” Liam noted.

“What? You have something against sugar cereal?”

“No, that’s actually the exact cereal I’m eating right now.” I narrowed my eyes.

“You’re eating my cereal?”

“Oh you own it? Is your name on it?” I turned the box so he could see in giant letters, ‘Cam’s cereal. Touch and die.’ written across it. “Wow. Possessive.”

“You didn’t know or see it, so this time I’ll let it slide.” Liam liked that answer as he shoved another bite into his mouth. “So what are you doing up anyway? You have to get up in a few hours for work, yeah?”

“I was hungry.” He stated simply. After I poured the milk, I came and joined him on one of the bar stools. Cereal really was one of the best midnight snacks.

“Are you coming tomorrow?” I shook my head as my mouth was full. “Why not?” He sounded slightly disappointed and it made me happy inside.

“Gotta find a tutor.” I mumbled, a bit of food still in my mouth.

“Swallow your food, you sicko.” I swallowed properly and repeated myself. “And why do you need a tutor?”

“Mom doesn’t feel like enrolling me into a different school system. It would be really confusing, so we’re getting me a tutor. Pretty much, I’ll be home-schooled. Yay.” I said, dryly.

“Problem with home-schooled kids?”

“No, just a problem with school. I’m in Europe, with my famous brother, and I still have to go to school. Blech.” I fake gagged.

“Problem as you have a problem with school or school is just the problem?”

“School is the problem. I’m great at school. Might be able to graduate Valedictorian.” I said, proudly.

“Nicely done.”

“Thank yah, thank yah, thank yah very much.” I said in my best Elvis impersonation. “But I actually have to do stuff in order for that to happen.”

“Stuff sucks.”

“I know, right?” Liam laughed, sweetly.

“What classes do you need to graduate?”

“Way too many. And I still have all of next year. I’m going to die.”

“Eh, I’m sure you’ll be brilliant.” I smiled back at him. “Not as brilliant as I did, but I’m sure it’ll still be pretty good.”

“You didn’t even go to school! You started acting when you were nine!” I said, instantly catching myself a moment too late. The thing was, Liam noticed too.

“How do you know when I started?”

“It was a guess?”

“Oh, I don’t think it was.”

“I’m a psychic?” It was still a question.

“Did you stalk me, Cam?” Liam smirked and I wanted to scrub that smug look off his face.

“No, I just remember seeing you in a movie when you were a little kid.” Oh how I remember all the movies I watched when he was a little kid.

“And you just so happened to guess that I was nine in that one movie?”

“Yes...”

“Alright, I’ll take your word for it.” I started breathing again, which I didn’t realize I stopped. Liam got up and placed his bowl in the sink. “By the way, I heard you talking to your friends.” My eyes widened and heart stopped again.

“No you didn’t.” I said quickly.

“And I heard what you said about me.”

“We weren’t talking about you.”

“Cam, I heard everything.”

“Liam. No. You didn’t.” Someone please tell me his is just messing with me. Please. Right now. Someone tell me this was a joke.

“You are pretty loud.”

“You heard nothing.”

“How’s Erin’s fractured ankle doing?” My eyes widened.

“Oh my gosh, Liam, were you listening at the door?” He smiled widely. “That’s an invasion of privacy.” He started laughing wildly. “Oh my gosh, this isn’t funny! How much exactly did you hear?”

Everything.”

“You’re dead. You are so, so dead. I’m too tired to kill you right now, but tomorrow, you’re dead.” Liam started laughing again.

“I’m kidding, Cam.” I looked at him skeptically. “I just walked past your door going downstairs and Erin’s fractured ankle was all I heard.”

“That was not funny.” I said, when I finally started breathing normally again.

“But hey! It’s good to know that you do in fact talk about me.”

“I never said that!”

“Maybe not aloud, but it was written all over your face.” I glared at him.

“Go to bed.” He smirked again.

“Sorry I scared you. Twice.”

“It’s fine, just go away before you do anything else that makes me want to hurt you.” He laughed again.

“I really am sorry. I just couldn’t pass up that second opportunity.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever.”

“Anyway! G’night love, see you tomorrow.” I smiled.

“Night Liam.” He flicked the light off, leaving me in the dark. “Hey! Lights!” He came back laughing and flipped them back on.

“Sorry, night Cam!” I waved him off, finishing up my cereal. That boy sometimes. I had no idea what to quite make of him, but he was doing something to me and I didn’t quite know what to do with that. I shook my head, trying to clear my head and placed my bowl back in the sink. Dragging my now extremely tired body up the stairs and into my room, I flopped onto my bed and drifted off to sleep.
