Chapter 30
Final chapter
"Margo can you help me with these?"
"Sure."
I skip over to Jal and put the food in the trolley then pick up some colourful flowers. Once we've payed we put the food in the car then drive to Ben's burial spot, laying down the flowers. It's been six months since his death, and everything's changed. Everything feels different like a new, overwhelming feeling that I have no clue what to do with. I don't feel alone anymore.. Because that's the thing about depression. When I feel it deeply, I don't want to let it go. It becomes a comfort. I want to cloak myself under its heavy weight and breathe it into my lungs. I want to nurture it, grow it, cultivate it. It's mine. I want to check out with it, drift asleep wrapped in its arms and not wake up for a long, long time.
"Is it okay if I just spend today just me and him?" Jal asks.
"Of course. I'll see you soon."
"Bye." She hugs me tight,I hug back then walk back home.
I get back home to see the apartment is empty,Thomas must still be at work.
I walk into his room which is now our room to see it's filled with boxes. I raise my eyebrows then place one onto the bed,it's quite heavy and I open it and have to out my hands over my mouth as I pull out my old clothes.. I go through box after box, seeing what's inside. There's books, notepads, pens, photos. Everything.
"Margo?" Thomas walks into the room to see me sitting there, just with all my junk surrounding me like some kind of fort.
"Where did his come from?"
"Your dad sent it."
"Oh. Well,I guess I saw that coming."
"Are you okay?"
"Of course. I'm better now like I told you."
"Do you want me to help you find a place for all this stuff?"
"We can throw it out if you want Thomas."
"No,I want it here,it's your stuff. It shouldn't be chucked away."
"If you're sure."
"Of course I'm sure."
We find a place for every single thing in those boxes. Once we come to the final one it's filled with school textbooks which of corse,we both want to throw away. Then I find a purple shoe box,I open it to see it's filled with ripped up scraps of paper which have been all ready written on.
"What's that?" Thomas asks.
"My memories... I wrote them all down then they ended up here."
"Why did you rip them up?"
"My only chance of destroying my past... I'm sorry,I sound like such a fucking Cliche don't I?"
"No,you just sound like someone with a bad past and desperate to get rid of it. And I can't blame you for doing that."
"Thanks,I can't tell you how much I love you. You saved my life."
"No I didn't-"
"Yes you did. And you know what you've done?"
"What?"
"I don't need this box. Because I've got you. You've taken all my bad memories, and replaced them with my good ones,I love you,and that's the reason. You're my soulmate, and saviour."
I can see he is smiling but has tears in his eyes,I lean over and wipe them away.
"Don't cry for me."
"You're worth all the tears in the world."
"No your tears."
I wrap myself around him so he holds me in a safe and passionate embrace.
"Where you headed?" He asks me as I focus on the shade of his eyes.
"I don't know." I answer, the words curling up in my throat "Somewhere nice."
And that's what I found even in the most unlikely place.
The end.
