Chapter Twelve

Oh no, not again. I shook my head as a huge of sack of letters was brought in.

"This has to stop, Kayla", Colton, the human relations officer told me.

"I know. I don't want to disappoint our readers. I promised we would answer their questions", I said.

"Well, they will have to reduce the number of questions they send or it will have to be stopped altogether", Colton told me and left.

I constantly put myself in the shoes of the readers of my magazine. I knew I would be disappointed if I had been promised such an offer by the magazine only to be let down by the same magazine. I had to think of something - and fast.

"Kayla, are you okay? Kayla?" Nigel asked me, waving his hands in front of me.

"Yeah, yeah", I said and shuffled through the papers on the desk that I had not been brought out of my very short daydream.

"Are you sure?" Nigel asked again, concern evident in his voice.

I quickly told him what the problem was.

"What about answering the questions by making videos and posting them on YouTube?" Nigel suggested.

"Over thousands of questions?"

"Yeah, but not all of them. You could ask the readers to send in a minimum of three questions every month through e-mails, social media, letters and you'll answer the questions the way they were sent."

"Huh?"

"For example, if a question was sent through e-mail, it will be answered by e-mail."

"I get it now. Obviously, I can't do this on my own. I need help, but I have so much to do!"

"Don't worry. I've got it covered."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"I'm so glad I employed you, Nigel."

"Yeah, me too. I mean, I'm glad you employed me, I mean I didn't employ you", Nigel said, scratching his head nervously.

I laughed. He looked so cute when he did that.

"You talk too much", I said and brought his face closer to mine.

I leaned in, ready to begin, but Nigel stopped me.

"Aren't we breaking the rules or something?" he asked.

"Who cares?"

"I do, Kayla. There are security cameras everywhere. This is all I'll give you", Nigel said and gave me a kiss on my cheek and left.

"People have done worse things, Nigel", I called out but he ignored me.

I gave a huge sigh and went back to my work.

I would love to say that the rest of the day passed by uneventfully, but this was not the case. Some of the elevators broke down, the Internet connection was wacky and a fight almost broke out in the office. And I had to handle all of it, of course. This is exactly why I hate Mondays.
