Chapter Seven
"Nikki! Nikki! Open the door!" I screamed and banged the door.
I had been doing this for what seemed like ages now. What in the world was Nikki doing? Was she asleep? No, that couldn't be. I had called her before coming to her house.
"Coming!" Nikki shouted.
That was what I wanted to hear. Soon, she opened the door and I entered.
"I know you have a problem. Just tell me", Nikki said.
I hated the fact that I only came to Nikki's house when I had a problem. Oh, well, nothing could be done about that. I went on to tell her about the conversation I had with Nigel. I didn't tell her about my mother, though. The argument was between my mum and I and I didn't want to let her in my family matters.
"What's wrong with you? Why did you lie to him?" Nikki asked when I had finished my narration.
"I don't know what happened. The words just flew out of my mouth!" I said in protest.
"You're in such a big mess! Tell him the truth", Nikki said.
"No. I have an idea. I'll just continue lying and see where all this will end."
"He'll find out the truth and dump you. That's how they all are."
"That is so not true. How do you even know?'
"I've had friends who did the same thing you're planning to do. That's how they ended up. There's nothing new under the sun, you know."
"But why?"
"I don't know why, but take it from me, from someone who has seen your heart broken multiple times. Don't try this experiment. Please don't", Nikki said in a sudden serious tone.
"You're jealous, aren't you?!" I said and pointed an accusing finger at her chest.
"Why would I be jealous? I have a fiancé."
"Nigel is better than---than whatever his name is and you want to steal him away from me."
"If I wanted to steal Nigel away from you, I would have done that a long time ago."
"You see? I was right all along! You---You traitor! You're the worst friend ever! I can't believe I was even friends with you in the first place."
"I'm the worst friend ever?! You didn't even remember my birthday and it was two days ago! What kind of friend are you?!" Nikki said with thick emotion in her voice.
I could hear the hurt in Nikki's voice. A part of me wanted to apologize but the other part wanted to win the argument.
"I'm the type of friend who hates envy and that's exactly what you're doing. I'm fed up with everything and I'm leaving. Goodbye", I said and left.
I stood outside for a few minutes, hoping that Nikki would come after me. Not that I expected her to do that after that row we had. Sometimes, we argue but in a few minutes, we would apologize and become friends again. Sadly, this wasn't the case.

It felt like ages and ages as I stood waiting in the queue. There was a discount on many items at the mall and I wanted to make good use of it. Soon enough, I left the mall with an armload of shopping bags. I stuffed them in the car and soon arrived home.
So far, my plan was working. If Nikki was right and Nigel would only date Christian girls, then I would just act like a Christian. How difficult would that be?
