Chapter Eight

I wouldn't say that acting was difficult, but it wasn't easy to get into character. In high school, I starred in all the plays and the musicals. I really enjoyed acting and even now, I enjoy doing it. I wish I could perform in plays and whatnot but I'm a very busy person.

It wasn't easy, but as time went on I got into character and I spent as much time as possible with Nigel. He had all the qualities I wanted in a husband. I had waited so long and now my potential husband is finally here! I really have to work hard at this. Everything has to be perfect. Opportunity comes but once.

"You're so funny! I can't believe you actually did that!" I said, trying to control my laughter.

"I was scared! What else did you expect me to do?" Nigel asked.

"Okay, okay. You win", I said just as we entered the local eatery.

We sat down and ordered our food. The food service is very efficient so in a few minutes, our food was brought to us. Nigel was about to dig in but I stopped him.

"Let's pray", I said.

Nigel bowed down his head and I prayed.

"Dear Lord, thank you for such a beautiful day and this breakfast. Amen", I prayed.

"Amen", Nigel responded.

"You know, I've never prayed over coffee before", Nigel told me.

"You haven't?" I asked, surprised.

Maybe I was wrong. He wasn't a Christian after all. All this was for nothing.

"You didn't let me finish my statement. I meant that I have never prayed over coffee with someone as beautiful as you", Nigel said.

I quickly sipped the coffee so that Nigel would not see the blush was creeping on my face.

"You're forward, aren't you?"

"I'm just telling the truth, aren't I?"

"Yeah, I guess so."

"I'll shop for groceries later this afternoon. Is there anything I can get for you?"

"I would prefer going with you to the grocery", I said.

I wanted to spend as much time as possible with Nigel. I didn't want him to leave my sight. We weren't officially dating so he had every right to date any girl he wanted. I couldn't imagine Nigel dating another girl. I had to play my cards right.

Why was it so difficult to choose a suitable outfit to wear? I didn't want to wear a skimpy outfit because that wouldn't reflect my "Christianity" but I wanted to look trendy too. I finally settled on a yellow frilly blouse with denim jeans and some black flats. Soon enough, I was done and we went shopping.

I went to the fruit section of the store to get some oranges. I saw Nigel holding an armful of oranges. What is he doing? I wondered. My question was soon answered when Nigel started juggling the oranges. He was so talented! I was totally shocked. A crowd gathered around him, taking pictures and videos and cheering him on. He was soon done with his act and was given a very loud applause. We then went back to our shopping.

"You're a great juggler", I told Nigel when we were in the car.

"Thanks. It's quite a long time since I juggled though", Nigel said.

"When did you start juggling?" I asked.

"When I was seven or so. I always juggled at the talent show."

"I had a lot of fun shopping with you."

"Me too."

"There's a concert of some kind at my church. I was wondering if you would like to come."

"I'm really busy."

"With what?"

"Lots of things. Maybe another time."

"Yeah, sure."

I just hoped that all this would work out. It just had to. I didn't want all this to turn out to be a waste of my time.
