More Than A Label

"Danny, don't be mad..." Jessica says walking over to him. He moves away and Jessica backs off. She widens her eyes and stares him down.

"Daniel!" Jessica raises her voice and grabs his shoulder.

"I'm offended. I'm taken back that you don't want to get married." He snaps

"I want to get married, just not now! We have babies on the way, new jobs, and we haven't even been together for a year! That's a big commitment. We have our whole lives to get married." Jessica becomes flustered. Her face became red. She clenched onto the countertop resting her body.

Jessica and Danny had been through a lot. He made her feel amazing, she didn't think that a man could make her feel the way he does. In the last year things had changed drastically. A year ago she thought she would be with Sam, getting married. She met Danny and couldn't be happier. the twins were a shock, but a blessing to Jessica. She changed so much. The thought of marriage with Sam didn't scare her because they had been together for so long. Danny and Jessica were only together for a short period of time.

"You always say how you can't wait to spend the rest of your life with me. If we plan to be together, why can't we get married now? Do you have doubts about us being together in the future?" Danny looks into Jessica's eyes. She felt like she was in a chokehold and didn't know what to say.

"Of course I want to be with you. We don't need to rush into things. I don't want to rush into things."

"You're pregnant! You're pregnant with my children! Marriage only seems right."

"I thought we agreed that we would take our time. We discussed this, marriage wasn't something we would rush into because I am pregnant. I thought you said that me being pregnant doesn't mean automatic marriage. Have you changed your mind?"

"I just love you, I want you to be my wife. I want to raise our children, married."

"Marriage is just a label. A label I'm not ready for. You either respect that or you don't." Jessica says sternly

Danny looked at Jessica then turned away.

"It's more than a label to me." Danny takes a deep breath and sighs.

Jessica watched as he walked out of the kitchen and into the bathroom slamming the door.

That night Jessica and Danny didn't say another word. They were both too upset to talk to each other. Jessica loved Danny and didn't want to hurt him.

When they laid in bed they didn't say a word to each other. They just sat their quietly.

The next morning was the same, only small talk. Jessica and Danny got ready for work.

They were in their bathroom. Jessica was curling her hair and Danny was shaving. Jessica stopped for a moment and looked at Danny through the mirror.

"Danny..." Jessica says softly

"I really have a lot on my mind, can we just talk about this later?" He drops his razor and looks at her.

"I don't want our new beginning start off bad. You can't honestly be mad at me."

"I'm not mad. I'm just tried and stressed."

Danny walked out of the bathroom and back into the room. His phone alarm went off. He peeked his head back in and said goodbye to Jessica as he left for work.

Jessica stood there for a few minutes. She finished the last of her curls then put everything away.

Suddenly Jessica felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She hunched over and held onto the bottom of her belly.

"Hey you two, what are you doing in there?" Jessica exclaims clenching onto the towel rack.

"Listen, be good for mommy today. I have a long day ahead of me!"

Later that night//

When Jessica got home she was exhausted. She had been uncomfortable all day and just wanted to sleep. She had Danny on her mind all day. She kept wondering if what she said was wrong. She said it out of being scared. Scared to get married.

Danny got home a little later. Jessica had dinner ready.

"How was your day?" Danny says at the table

"Okay, yours?"

"I've had this marriage thing on my mind all day. Our little disagreement, what you said, I just can't take it off my mind." Danny sighs and sets down his fork.

"I don't want to get married for a few years. I'm not going to argue over marriage."

"Why don't you want to get married now?"

"I don't want to plan a wedding. I want our wedding day to be special and not rushed. Danny, we've only known each other for less than a year, what if we-" Jessica gasp for a moment then stops.

"There it is. You're afraid we won't be together in the future. You have doubts about our relationship." Danny moves his chair back and stands up.

Jessica slowly tries to get up, but couldn't. She stayed in her chair watching Danny pace around the kitchen.

"It's not that I have doubts! It's that I'm scared! I'm scared to get married." Jessica says quickly

Danny slides on his shoes and looks at Jessica with a deceiving look.

"You sure as hell wouldn't be scared to marry Sam."

Danny looked at Jessica was was crying. He needed air.

"I need to be alone right now."

Danny opens the door and leaves. Jessica stood up and held her chest as she sobbed uncontrollably. She didn't know why this became such a big argument. She just wanted things to stay the way they were.

About an hour later Danny still wasn't home and it was getting late. Jessica was scared to be alone so she called her mom.

"Jessie, you haven't called. You said you would call. How are things? Tell me everything!" Dorthy giggles

"Hi mom..." she says softly

"Is everything okay, are you okay?"

"I'm fine... It's just been a long day, I wanted to call before I went to sleep."

"How was your first day of work? Are you settling in okay?"

"Work is great. Danny and I settled in just fine. He surprised me with a nursery."

"That's great! We miss you here. It's so weird not having you in the same state." Dorthy clears her throat.

"I miss everyone too. But I bought you and dad those plane tickets to come out June twenty fifth. So I'll see you then."

"I can't wait! Thank you!"

Jessica felt another sharp pain again. She had been experiencing pain all day. She became alarmed, quickly. These pains didn't feel like Braxton hicks.

"Jessie?" Dorthy says curiously

Jessica hissed in pain and dropped her phone on the ground.

"Jessica, did I lose you? What's going on?"
Dorthy tells Into the phone.

Jessica glances at her phone and picks it up.

"Mom, I....

OWE! *gasps*

I have to go." Jessica pants

"Jessica, are you okay?" Dorthy starts to panic, before she could say another word Jessica hung up.

The pain came at different times. Jessica's body shook. She could only think of one thing that was going on, she could be in labor.

After the pain stopped for a few minutes Jessica grew the strength to get up off the couch. She slowly wobbled into her room. She searched around for some sort of duffle bag.

As she reached for one she got another pain. She moved over to the bed and sat down taking deep breaths.

"Wyatt, Scarlett, I can't do this. You can't come. Don't yet sweet peas. It's too early, daddy isn't here. Just try to stay in longer!" Jessica was in denial that this might be in. She might be in labor.

Jessica grabbed things from her drawers and threw them into the duffle bag. As she headed for the nursery her phone rang.

Jessica groaned and wobbled back to the couch. It was her mother calling again. Jessica didn't answer.

As Jessica tried to make her way back to the nursery the pain kept coming back. Jessica was attempting to pack a hospital bag but gave up.

She dropped the bag in the nursery and headed for the door. She grabbed her purse from the hanging hook and walked outside.

She stood at the curb waiting for a taxi to drive by. Her neighbor stood next to her waiting as well.

Once a taxi pulled over her neighbor tried to get in first.

"I need to go! Let me go!" Jessica clenches her teeth and holds the door.

"I'm going to be late for my night shift!" The lady snaps

"I might be in labor! Now let me go!"
