Homecoming
April 1st,
It was like Jessica's nightmare had finally come to an end. It was the day she would be released from the hospital and sent home.... well, not her home... but a home. Her mother's. Her, Sam, and the children would live there. Before the accident Sam and Jessica agreed to move in, she didn't want the fire to change anything. Jessica wanted Sam with her. She took nothing for granted any longer.
It has been four months. Four months of pain, tears, sweat, troubles, and horror. No one thought she would make it, but she did.
After she woke up from her coma it took a month for her to learn to talk again. Jessica had to start from the beginning. Her three year old children were more verbal than her during the month of February. It just goes to prove what a struggle it was for her. Her brain had to learn everything over again. Being in a coma for a month takes a toll on the brain.
Jessica then began to learn to eat again, without a feeding tube. She learned to breathe on her own, with some struggles due to the damage the smoke caused on her lungs. Then, the hardest part, learning to walk.
The burns were hard as well. They were painful and would take a long time to heal. The cleanings were dreaded. The scars they'd leave were another demon that Jessica would have to face.
But, none of that mattered as she signed the discharge papers. The doctors worried for her. She had PTSD, constant nightmares, and depression. Jessica tried to stay strong for her kids that needed her and her family that prayed each night for her to be better. She wanted them to think their answers were answered. The accident had already caused so much damage that she didn't want them worrying anymore.
Inside she lived in constant fear and pain. Her body ached. Her head hurt. Walking from point A to point B made her dizzy and breathless. She could barely walk. The burns on her legs were very significant and made Jessica lose some mobility. The doctors told her she would regain strength over time.
Danny made the move back to Minnesota. It was a big decision for him, but Jessica and Danny made the decision together that it would be best for the children with Danny near by. It was a relief to Jessica that her demons with Danny were sorted out.
All she wanted was to be a mother again. To have a normal life. She wanted to be human.

"Do you have everything?" The nurse asks as she helps Jessica into the wheel chair
Jessica smiles happily then turns to Sam and takes his hands. "Yes. I have everything I need." Jessica smiles
"I wish you the best of luck, Jessica. I hope that life treats you well and invite me to your wedding!" The nurse smiles as she gives Jessica and Sam a hug. This nurse witnessed Jessica and her family at their best and worst. She sat with Sam through all of those long nights during Jessica's coma. She was a true hero to Jessica.
"Thank you, really." Jessica smiles
Sam gets behind the wheelchair and starts pushing Jessica.
"This is it... goodbye room 206, you were a bitch." Sam says
Jessica chuckles
"Sam..." she whispers
Sam stops. Jessica looks around and takes a deep breath. She gazes up at Sam and starts to cry.
"Jessie, what's wrong?" He says kneeling down to her
"This is it.... this is the moment I've been waiting for. But I'm scared.... I'm so scared." She cries
"Don't be scared. I'll protect you. You'll be safe." He says giving her a soft kiss on the cheek
Jessica nods and wipes her tears. "I'm ready."

When they pull in to the driveway Jessica had the biggest smile of her face when she saw everyone's cars parked in the driveway waiting for her. Of course her mother would throw a get together for Jessica's homecoming.
"Looks like everyone is here to see ya!" Sam smiles
deep down, all Jessica wanted to do was go back to her home... take a nice bath, and fall asleep in her bed. She wasn't up for partying or celebration. She didn't feel like there was anything to really celebrate. But she wanted to put on a smile to make her mom happy.
"I'm just excited to see my babies." Jessica says
Sam helps Jessica out of the car and holds her tightly so she doesn't lose her balance.
When Sam opens the door Wyatt and Scarlett come running for their mother. They couldn't believe that she was actually home. This was the first time In months that they've seen her out of the hospital.
It was very emotional when Jessica walked in. Her family was over the moon to have her home. It didn't seem real. They went from thinking they'd lose her forever to her walking through the door.
"My sweeties.... oh how much I love you." Jessica starts to cry as she holds her children close to her. They were the greatest gift from above. Being able to hold them was more than enough for her.
Then, she sees her once little baby boy Jack stumbling over to her all on his own. Jessica missed his first steps and it was quite the surprise to see him waking.
"Jack! When did you learn how to do that?" Jessica says
"Mama!" He smiles
"Jessie, I'm so happy you're out of that place and with us." Dorthy says as she hugs her mom
"Me too." She smiles
"Look, Oliver. it's your aunt Jessica!" Ann just had her baby two weeks ago. Jessica was finally able to meet her new nephew.
Sam helps Jessica sit down and she holds her hands out for the baby.
"Ann, he's precious." Jessica smiles
"He's been waiting to meet you. Huh Olly?" She smiles
Sam sits down next to Jessica and watches as she smiles and giggles with her family. This is all Sam could ever ask for... Jessica to be okay.
