Close To The End
20 weeks;
Today was Jessica's twenty week check up. Unfortunately, Sam was too unwell to come to the appointment. Due to conflict in schedule Jessica had to miss Sam's chemo treatment. Dorthy stayed with him so Jessica decided to ask her dad to come. It had been a while since she spent time with just her dad.
"Are you excited to see your next two grandchildren?" Jessica laughs as the doctor puts the gell on her stomach.
Albert just walked Into the room to see the ultrasound after Jessica was finished with blood work and her exam.
"I sure am." He smiles taking Jessica's hand.
"Are we finding out the gender today?" The doctor asks happily
"I was actually wondering if you could write it on a piece of paper and give it to my dad. I guess my brother and his college buddy have a surprise gender reveal idea." Jessica chuckles
After Ann and Jane were talking about a gender reveal party, they shared the idea with George. George and his friend from college are driving down in two weeks to throw this "crazy" and "funny" gender reveal for Jessica. She decided to let her siblings take care of it all.
"Oh I can't wait for it. It's going to be so fun." Albert laughs
"I bet you're excited." The doctor turns to Jessica
"Honestly, a little scared." Jessica chuckles
"Well, grandpa! There are those babies you've been waiting to see." The doctor says joyfully
"Wow! Look at that." Albert smiles
"Baby A is right there and baby B is chilling out over down here." The doctor points
"So baby b is the one that keeps kicking me down there." Jessica smiles
"I guess so!"
"What do you think dad?" Jessica turns to him
"This is really cool. I haven't been to an ultrasound in years." He smiles
"... I can't believe I'm having two more grand babies!"
"Jessica is good at making doubles." The doctor laughs
"I sure am."

After the doctors appointment Jessica and Albert went out for lunch then headed back home with food for Dorthy and Sam. They wanted to make sure they met them right as they got home.
When Jessica walked in Sam was sitting on the couch watching tv with Dorthy.
"Hey guys! We are back!" Jessica says walking in
"Hey babe!" Sam says
"Hey! You look like you're feeling well." She smiles as she gives him a kiss
Dorthy comes over and hugs Jessica and Albert before she sets up a plate of food for Sam.
"Dad has the genders in his pocket!" Jessica says sitting next to Sam
"Oh al! You have to show me!" Dorthy exclaims
"No, I am handing it to Jane and Ann and waiting until the fourth of June." Albert smiles
Then, the room got really quite.
"So, how did today go?" Jessica says breaking the silence.
"We have something to talk about." Sam says
Jessica becomes concerned. She turns to her mother who just had this sad face on. Sam grew quite as he took Jessica's hands. Dorthy and Albert sat across from them.
"Is everything okay?" Jessica says
"Yeah... Before chemo I saw my oncologist. He did some scans and my tumor has shrinked 3 sizes." Sam says
Jessica sits there in silence. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. The doctors said it could take almost nine months for the tumor to reduce in size. It's been six months and Sam's tumor could now be at the perfect size to be removed. That could mean he'd be cancer free.
"Wait! What!" Jessica squeals
"His surgery is scheduled!" Dorthy exclaims
"Sam! Oh my god!" Jessica cries as she goes in for a big hug
"It's almost over, baby." He says softly
"It's almost over." She repeats
It was official. Sam's surgery was scheduled for June 7th. Three days after the gender reveal party. Sam and Jessica couldn't be more excited. All of his pain would be gone. All of this would be over for Sam. The only hard part now is these last two aggressive weeks of chemo and overcoming the risky surgery.
Sam's levels were back to normal. He had really fought the good fight and is ready to win.

That weekend;
Now that the long fight was soon coming to an end, Sam wanted to celebrate with everyone.
After a few days of processing the exciting news and after a final confirmation that this surgery was going to happen, Jessica invited all of her family and Sam's mom over to celebrate.
It was the twins last day of school on Friday, Sam was cleared for surgery, and everyone could finally be together and in good spirits.
"I'd like to make a toast." Dorthy says as she stands up
"Go mom! Woo Hoo!" Ann says, she and a few other people were a bit tipsy. It was a night to celebrate, let go, and have fun.
"To Sam, my dearest son in law, to someone I love like my own, cheers to you for finally getting cleared for surgery and fighting the good fight. To my grandchildren for finishing big kid school, Oliver and Chase for just being the sweetest little babies, to my husband for just being so amazing, and to my kids. Thank you all for being you. I'm so glad to sit at this table and see faces with smiles and for love being in the air. I'm so glad that we can all come together, celebrate, laugh, talk, drink, and just have an amazing time." Dorthy says with tears in her eyes
"Cheers!" Everyone says as they clink their drinks together
"And Dorthy, thank you for all you do for me and Jessica. You living with us during this time means the world." Sam says
Jessica looks at Sam with big eyes and kisses his cheek. It's been so long since she has seen that beautiful smile.

Later into the night Jessica's siblings and Dorthy and Sam's mom Jane were all a little drunk.
They all hung outside on the beautiful patio in Jessica's garden.
They were doing karaoke, making jokes, and telling stories.
"You know, we need to take a family vacation next summer. Somewhere crazy!" Ann says
"Jessica and I are flying somewhere to renew our vows next summer too!" Sam says happily
"What! You didn't tell us!" Jane says
"It was my birthday gift." Jessica smiles
"Well, amen to a parent get-away!" Ann's husband chuckles
"Amen!" Ann says as she spills her drink a bit.

The next day:
"It's your first day of summer and you two still want to get up at the crack of down." Jessica chuckles as she pours the twins their cereal
"We have to go to daddy's!" Scarlett exclaims
"Honey, I'm dropping you off at daddy's in six hours!" Jessica chuckles
"Yay!" Wyatt says
"Jack is excited!" Scarlett says as he jumps around in his high chair.
"What are you doing at daddy's this weekend?" Jessica asks
The kids are usually very settle when they move from Jessica's to Danny's or the other way around. This is the first they she has ever heard them talk about being excited to switch houses.
This was the hardest part of split parents. Not having the three kids twenty four seven. Especially now that she had two more on the way and that she won't always have a full house.
"Our new toys from nona." Wyatt smiles
"Oh, you got new toys from Nona Zoe?" Jessica smiles
"And the puppy!" Scarlett cheers
"Puppy? Daddy has a puppy?" Jessica asks
"No, daddy's friend." Wyatt corrects her
"Mandy?"
"Yes!" Scarlett laughs
"Do you guys like Mandy? Is she nice?" Jessica asks
She hated being that parent, but she was always so curious of what her kids were thinking about and how they feel.
"Yes!" Scarlett smiles
"And goofy like daddy." Wyatt adds
"Well good. I'm glad Mandy is nice."
