Sam had never run so fast in his life. He jumped out of his truck and ran toward the flames that were spitting all over the property. By this time the fire department arrived.

Sam shouted for Jessica hoping she was out of the house.

"Jessica! Jessica!" He yells

Sam starts to cry, scared out of his mind, praying to god that Jessica wasn't inside.

"Jessica!" He screams

He looks at the condo then at the firefighters.

"My girlfriend, she's in the house! She's in that house! I have to go get her." He yells

"Sir, no, you have to step aside. We are going in now." A firefighter says

Sam watches them all march inside then watches another group of men getting ready to fight the flames.

"I have to go in there. They need help looking for her." Sam panics

"Sir. No." He says pushing Sam back

Sam turns around and shouts for Jessica, having the smallest bit of hope that she made it out.

"Jessica! Jessica!"

All of the neighbors start to yell for her, but she was no where to be seen. That meant that she was definitely inside the house.

With everything Sam had he wanted to go run inside and get the love of his life. He didn't understand how things were so good and now this. A deadly fire. He kept replaying the moment before he left in his head. He knew he turned off the stove and cleared his work space. He couldn't possibly imagine what caused the house to burst into flame.

Sam could feel the heat on his face. It was burning. The bright light from the flames was blinding him. But he couldn't take his eyes off the house until he saw Jessica.

Suddenly, he hears someone shouting his name. He turns around and sees Albert and Dorthy running towards him.

"No! Sam! My baby! she can't be in here! Tell me she's not in there!" Dorthy sobs

Sam didn't answer. He just looked at Dorthy and Albert and cried.

"We found a body. Bringing her out now. Could there be anyone else in the house?"
Sam hears this over the radio and runs to the officer.

"They found her! She's in there?" Sam says

"Could anyone else be in the house?" He asks Sam

Sam shakes his head and cries. "No... just her.... god just her!" He cries

Then, Sam sees a man coming out of the house carrying Jessica. He could barley recognize her. Her body was black. She didn't look awake. She looked lifeless.

Sam gets past the officers and runs to her.

"My Jessie.... my Jessie. Wake up. Wake up!" He shouts as the firefighter lays her down away from the fire.

"We need a paramedic over here, stat!" The firefighter shouts

"Is she awake? Is she breathing?" Sam yells

then, officers come over to take Sam. He could not even touch her. Her body was extremely hot.

"Sir, you have to move back!" The officer says

Albert comes and gets Sam and holds him tightly.

"I'm sorry, Albert. I don't know how this happened!" He yells

Sam watches the paramedics put her on a stretcher and rush her to the ambulance.

This couldn't be happening. Sam didn't even know if Jessica was alive. When he saw her she wasn't moving. She was unconscious. Her body was covered in burns and dark dust. Sam was devastated.

Then, Sarah arrives and runs to Dorthy, Albert, and Sam.

"Oh my god, what happened. Where's Jessica? What happened? Jessica!" Sarah cries

"Dorthy turns to Sarah. "She was in the house."

"You guys have to go and be with her. Go, go! I'll take the kids!" Sarah cries

Everyone looks at Sam who couldn't take his eyes off the condo that was barely even there. He thought about Jessica being alone and scared in the open fire... then, his mind took him to everything in that house. Jessica's life was inside that condo. Her things, her pictures, her valuables, the kids things, everything. It was all gone.

"Sam. Sarah is taking the children. We have to get to the hospital. I'll drive you. Come on." Albert says

"How did this happen?" He sobs

It was hours later. By this time all of Jessica's siblings were in the waiting room. The wait seemed never ending. They had no updates and have been yet to be informed by some sort of doctor or nurse on Jessica's condition. Everyone was lost, scared, heartbroken and worried. This wasn't just some small accident. It was a big, huge, deathly accident.

No one even knew if Jessica was alive. They only hoped that the reason it took so long for an update was because they were too busy helping her.

Sam was beyond devastated. He felt so responsible and guilty for what happened. He didn't know what could have caused such a big fire... it was scary. He just kept praying and praying hoping that she would pull through. He kept making up images in his head of Jessica alone inside that house when it broke into flames. He questioned why she didn't get out in time.... there were so many unanswered questions. He just wishes it was him... not Jessica.

Dorthy came back into the waiting room after a quick phone call.

"I just called Danny. He said he'll be here tomorrow morning." Dorthy says as she sits down next to Al.

"Danny?" Jane asks

"He needs to be here for the kids if something happens. I mean, they have nothing now... I just can't wrap my head around this..." Dorthy cries

Albert comforts her and the room goes quite. Sam hasn't spoken a word since they arrived to the hospital. He couldn't without crying.

"He sounded devastated. I could hear him crying." Dorthy says quietly

"It should have been him. Not Jessica. She doesn't deserve this." Ann mumbles

"Don't say that." Albert says sternly

Sam sniffles then looks at Jessica's family. He couldn't help but think that they held his accountable for the fire.

"You know... today Jessica asked me to move in with her. We were ready to really start our life together. Words can't explain my love for her. It's never ending. She is my life... my heart.... and my soul. She was so excited to tell you and Albert tonight. She didn't even care if it was too soon. I didn't either. I don't. We love each other. I can't lose her, again." Sam utters

The room grows quite and tears start to fall.

"You're the best , Sam. She's so lucky to have you."

"I'm lucky to have her."
