Rubykit opened her bright amber eyes, looking around the nursery. She looked around to see her three sisters sleeping next to her mother. She noticed that every now and then Sapphirekit would blink revealing her blue eyes. Then she looked at Briarflight. Her beautiful mother, with her dark brown fur, just looked amazing.
Rubykit thought it would be funny to scare Pearlkit and wake her up by pouncing on her. As the oldest of her littermates, she always got her way. She slipped quietly behind Pearlkit, then pounced. Pearlkit woke up with a start, waking Emeraldkit up with her. Pearlkit growled "Why did you wake me up? I was just about to catch a fat mouse!" Rubykit purred and replied "I thought it would be funny." Pearlkit growled and leaped at her. Rubykit dodged with ease.
Sapphirekit was finally awake, and now the kits could go out. Rubykit led her littermates out of the nursery, much to their mother's unliking, and into the cave clearing. She immediately saw Lionclaw, her father, eating fresh-kill. She padded up to him and mewed "Hi Lionclaw!" Then Lionclaw growled "Go back to the nursery! I smell RiverClan!" The kits obeyed and ran back. Then they heard the RiverClan battle cry and fierce yowls.
