Chapter 4

Robbinpaw saw white. When the white cleared, he saw Berrypaw, but she had a confused look on her face but when she saw Robbinpaw she looked even more confused. "Robbinpaw?" she asked. Robbinpaw stood silent. "Y-you can talk?" he asked awestruck. "Robbinpaw that's actually you? I thought this was another dream! Or is it?" Berrypaw said looking even more confused than before. "No, no its me." Robbinpaw said, "Wha- what how can we share a dream?" But it seemed as if Robbinpaw didn't even hear. "This is so cool! Were in the same dream!" "But how? This is impossible!" Berrypaw exclaimed. "Well, if this is impossible then StarClan is impossible." Robbinpaw challenged. Berrypaw hissed playfully. "Wow. I never knew someone could share a dream." "Me neither." Robbinpaw replied. He purred nuzzling her. "Come on. Ive got an idea." He said sprinting off. Berrypaw followed quickly. He skidded to a stop sending Berrypaw flying. She crashed into the ground. "Hey! You, ok?" Robbinpaw asked. She got up shaking her pelt and nodding. She padded back over to him. "Where are we going?" "If this works, you'll see." He closed his eyes imagining the place he wanted to go in perfect detail. "Hold on." He told her and she held on to him tightly. He let his thoughts consume him and felt a rush of wind brush his pelt. When he opened his eyes, he was in a different place. The place he'd imagined. They were at the gorge during sunset. It was beautiful the water below sparkling as the light shimmered on it. The wind blew ruffling their pelts and he saw Berrypaw open her eyes. "Woah! How'd we get here?" she asked. "Anything is possible in dreams." He replied with a smile. He sat down on a rock at the edge of the gorge and Berrypaw sat beside him. He peered down the gorge and saw the rushing river. He knew they couldn't get hurt in a dream, so he had an idea. "Come on!" He said and without hesitating he jumped over the side of the gorge. "Robbinpaw!" Berrypaw wailed. He fell into the gorge. "It's ok! Just jump!" she looked hesitant. "Trust me!" Berrypaw closed her eyes and jumped as Robbinpaw hit the water. He went under. He kicked his paws swimming through the river. He broke to the surface though he didn't gasp for breath because he didn't need too. He was safe. The water felt cool on his pelt. He saw Berrypaw plummet into the water next to him. he went under with her swimming down. she was flailing frantically. Calm down. he mouthed to her. She seemed to understand because she stopped flailing. He put a paw on her shoulder pulling her up. "Why did you jump!?" she yowled at him furiously. He laughed. "It was fine! You can't get hurt in a dream." She eyed him then pushed him down under. He gulped in the water. It tasted horrible. He pushed her paw off him swimming back up. "Hey!" he hissed playfully. She laughed. He smirked and pushed her under. Bubbles came up where he pushed her under. He froze for a moment almost forgetting to swim. What If cats could get hurt in dreams? He fretted. To his relief she came back up. He smiled at her warmly. Suddenly he felt the world shake. "Whats happening!?" Berrypaw yowled. "I think were waking up!" Berrypaw turned to look at him and nuzzled him. "Goodbye Robbinpaw. I'll see you tomorrow at moon high." She said with a smile then disappeared. Then he disappeared too. He woke in his nest in the apprentice den. "Come on!" The apprentice who was shaking him said. "Theres a clan meeting!" Robbinpaw sat up. "Ok, I'll be right there." the apprentice nodded and left. He stood and followed him out. He sat beside him near the tall rock as Volcanicstar was calling the meeting still. "By the way I'm Briarpaw." The young tom said. He smiled. "I'm Robbinpaw." Volcanicstar spoke up raising his voice as he stood on the tall rock. "We are announcing a new apprentice in the clan. Robbinpaw step forward." Robbinpaws ears pricked, and he took a few steps forward. "Robbinpaw, you have just joined this clan as a former RiverClan apprentice. We will accept you as if you were born into this clan." Robbinpaw nodded. "Do you promise to stay loyal to WindClan?" Volcanicstar asked. Robbinpaw thought about Berrypaw for a second but then spoke. "I do." Volcanicstar nodded. "Then Dapperclaw will you be Robbinpaws mentor?" he said looking to his deputy. "Yes." Dapperclaw said leaping down from the rock and touching noses with Robbinpaw. "I will train you as best I can." Dapperclaw whispered in his ear. "And I will be the best apprentice I can." Robbinpaw whispered back. Dapperclaw stepped back and went to sit on the lower part of the tall rock. Robbinpaw sat down beside Briarpaw again. "Nice job! It's an honor to get the deputy as a mentor!" he exclaimed. "Thanks." Robbinpaw said. "Rosepaw. Step forward." Volcanicstar called. "That's my sister." Briarpaw whispered in his ear. "Cool!" Robbinpaw whispered. "Doeleap, has your apprentice Rosepaw learned the skills of a warrior? Do they understand the importance of the warrior code?" he asked. Doeleap nodded. "She has." He spoke. "Good. Then I, Volcanicstar leader of WindClan call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. They have trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn." Volcanicstar looked down at Rosepaw then continued. "Rosepaw, do you promise uphold the warrior code and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?" He asked. "I do." "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior's name. Rosepaw, from this moment on you will be known as Rosefire. StarClan honors your Loyalty and determination, and we welcome you as a full warrior of WindClan." Volcanicstar leaped down from the tall rock and strode over to Rosefire resting his muzzle on her head. She licked his shoulder. "Rosefire! Rosefire! Rosefire!" the clan chanted but her brother Briarpaw said it the loudest. Rosefire turned to sit back down and flashed a proud smile at Briarpaw. Briarpaw looked like he really loved his sister. The pain of losing his brother struck him as if it had just happened again. Sadness gleamed in his eyes. Briarpaw looked at him. "Whats wrong?" he asked. "It's just... its nice seeing two siblings together..." Briarpaw looked at him confused. "What do you mean? Don't you have a sibling?" "I used to... my brother Ravenpaw died when we were on our journey here to WindClan." The pain flashed through him again making him cringe. "Oh- I'm sorry... I don't know what I would've done if I'd lost Rosefire." "Exactly. I just don't know what to do without him anymore..." Briarpaw looked at him sadly. "It's ok. Come on. You should get something to eat. You look hungry." Robbinpaw got up following Briarpaw to the Prey-pile. Briarpaw picked up a rabbit and padded over to him dropping it at his paws. "Thanks." Robbinpaw said bending down to eat. Briarpaw dipped his head then went to get a vole for himself. The rabbit tasted fresh. A warrior must had just caught it. He thought about his brother. Was Ravenpaw watching over him from StarClan? He sighed. After finishing his rabbit, he stalked off. It was only evening, and the sun hadn't started to go down yet. Time seemed to go in slow motion as he waited desperately to go and see Berrypaw. Her green eyes sparkled in his mind. He smiled to himself. Blood struck through his thoughts and the happy feeling inside him quickly faded. He saw Leopradstripe clawing at him then her body lying limp on the ground. The visions flashed before him, and he stumbled forward the visions disappearing into black... the endless darkness that covered his sight. He felt the air getting slightly colder. He knew the sun was starting to go down. he crouched and snuck out of camp. He sprinted across the moors towards the bridge. Once he got there, he stopped running going into a trot. He felt the wood as he stepped onto the bridge. He sniffed around but he didn't smell any fresh scents. He sat on the bridge waiting. A while after he heard paw steps on the bridge. He scented the air expecting to smell Berrypaw, but he scented something else. It didn't smell like a cat either. He jumped to his paws standing his ground. "Who's there?" he hissed. He couldn't hear anything for a few moments. Something scooped him up. He yowled as loud as possible. Suddenly, he could smell twolegs... No... he thought. He squirmed around in what felt like a net. He heard a gasp from the bridge and recognized Berrypaws voice. "No! Robbinpaw!" "Help!" Robbinpaw wailed. He smelled the overpowering scent of a monster and was thrown in a cage inside the monster. He could hear Berrypaw chasing them trying to catch up as the monster started speeding through the grass. "Robbinpaw!" her yowl sounded faint. They were getting farther and farther away. Then Berrypaws body disappeared. She was gone.
