Chp 3

2263

Many years later, several light years away from Earth, a warship observes three huge planets in eclipse. The crew of this warship watch as the three planets converge into one mass. General Staedert stares in awe and also concerned as this is happening, "Do you have anything yet? Not even a temperature?"

The captain reviews the current data or lack thereof, "The thermo-analyzers have jammed. One of them reads over a million degrees, the other's minus 5000... Never seen anything like it." A technician notes that the mass is taking a definite shape. And it is massive, moving, and changing colors continuously.

The Evil that was warned about has come back, taking the shape of a growing planet.

On Earth, the President of the United Federations takes a steadying breath as he braces himself for whatever news the General will give him. His large office is filled with others as they too await news. Among them is Priest Vito Cornelius and his apprentice, David, who has been listening to everything unfold as the president speaks with the general.

The President states that his concern is for the safety of the people overall. If that means advising the general to destroy the entity by any means, then that's what should be done. Priest Cornelius raises his hand to speak, "I have another theory, Mr President." The priest is acknowledged then announced. President Linberg nods for him to continue, "Go on."

"This thing cannot be measured or even identified because it does not want to. It is the atheist of all that we are. Because it is evil...Pure evil." Cornelius stresses. "All the more reason to shoot first, eh?" The President says sarcastically. All the military personnel present and on the warship nod in agreement. Cornelius sighs, "Evil begets evil, Mr. President. Shooting will only make it stronger."

While the president and priest were conversing, General Staedert had his crew launch a probe into the planet. Only to be disappointed when Evil swallows the probe and receives no new data. He speaks to the President, "What is your decision, Mr. President?"

After a moment of thinking the president responds to Cornelius, "Your theory is interesting, Father. But we do not have time to go into that right now!" Cornelius tries to persuade them from their course of action, "Time is not important. Only life is important." "That's exactly what we're going to try to do: Protect the lives of some 200 billion of our fellow citizens! General? You may fire when ready!"

General Staedert orders, "Up front loading of a 120 ZZR missile." The warship moves into combat formation as the missile is primed for launching. All of the sudden, the strange planet's activity ceases and the surface solidifies, covering it in a black crust. A scientist in the president's office monitoring the planet, "Its structure has just solidified on the surface. As if anticipating the attack. If that is the case, we are undoubtedly dealing with an intelligence."

"The most terrible intelligence imaginable, Mr. President," Cornelius stares the President down hoping he would rescind the order. Everyone in the office hears as the warship prepares to fire. "General? I have a doubt," President Linberg says as he wrings his hands. The General responds coldly, "I don't, Mr. President. Fire."

The missile explodes from the ship and penetrates its target. The explosion is swallowed by the mass. Nothing happens at first then the planet grows in size. Everyone is worried. The general gives an order, "Load a series of 740 missiles. Maximum shield protection." Captain relays the orders and prepares to fire the next round of missiles. "Staedert? What's going on? Did you destroy it?" The general answers less confidently, "I'm about to sir."

A series of three missiles are launched and head for the planet. Where they too were absorbed, the planet doubling in size. "The planet's diameter has greatly increased and it's moving towards the ship."

President Linberg is even more worried, "Staedert! Get out of there immediately! I don't want an incident, do you hear me, Staedert?" The general watches in horror as the planet gets closer, "What do we have that's bigger than 740?" The captain shakes his head, "Nothing sir." The warship crew could only watch as a gigantic flame erupts from the planet and engulfs the warship before swallowing it.

Inside what can only be described as an apartment in New York, a woman jolts awake from a nightmare. Korben Dallas is a 32 year-old woman with long blonde hair, blue eyes, slender build, very attractive in spite of the scars from her time in the military.

Korben runs a hand through her hair, getting it caught in a tangle. As she dislodges her hand from her hair, her phone starts ringing. She climbs out of bed, stands to reach for it and a cigarette. A bad habit, she knows. She's trying to quit. Which is why the filter is the majority of the smoke. Answering the phone as she looks for a match, "Yeah?" Korben also hears her cat outside the door, and lets Snowball in. Behind her the bed makes itself and stores away in the wall.

"Hey, missy, it's Finger," A former military comrade now her boss. Snowball passes by Korben on the way to her food dish, "Hi, sweetie." Finger snickered over the phone, "I love you too Major, but you haven't called me that since basic training." Korben rolls her eyes, "I was talking to my cat." "Right, I forgot you prefer the company of animals to men now," Finger remarks.

Korben is rummaging through her shelves that are littered with war decorations. A hero's collection. Still looking for a match. She comes across a picture of her and her ex-husband, tosses it aside, "At least she comes back." Finger sighs, "I warned you about that asshole. And look what happened. Anyways, I'm calling because you gotta bring me your hack for the 6 month overhaul that is overdue."

Korben finds a box of matches with three in it. She strikes one but it doesn't light. Frustrated, she opens the fridge to find it bare except for an empty can of Gemini croquettes with an ad on the front: WIN A DREAM TRIP FOR 2 TO FHOLSTON PARADISE!

She closes the fridge, grabs her coffee pot to warm up the brackish water, "I don't need one." "You forget who sat next to you on thousands of missions, Major. I know how you drive," Finger expressed. Rolling her eyes again, "Finger, I drive a cab now. Not a space fighter!" "How many points do you have on your license?" Finger asks. Korben lies through her teeth, "At least fifty." Finger laughs, "In your dreams. See you tonight." He hangs up before Korben could say anything else. She finally lights her cigarette.

Back in the office of the President that has emptied out save a few. An ancient manuscript, Billy's drawings, sits in front of the President. Cornelius turns page after page, illustrating his point. Stopping before a certain section revealing descriptions, drawings, and a photo of the guardians.

"We have 48 hours, the time it needs to adapt itself to our living conditions," Cornelius says to the president. Who is looking through everything he was allowed to see, "Then what?" "And then it would be too late. The goal of Evil is to wipe out life. All forms of life! For all eternity...Life upsets it!" Cornelius exclaims.

The president is worried about the image he is seeing, "Is there a way to stop it?" Cornelius nods, "Yes...Thank God." The priest knew more than he let on. The key he wears around his neck feels heavier with each passing minute. The manuscript is open to Billy's rendering of the Mondoshawans. "The Mondoshawans don't belong to the Federated Territories, but they are peaceful...In their possession are the four elements of life. These elements when gathered around a fifth: The Supreme Being, ultimate warrior, created to protect life will produce what the ancients called the light of creation. The light of total goodness which is the only thing that can defeat Evil."

The President points to the spot where the Fifth Element is occupying in the drawing, "What if Evil stands there instead of this ultimate warrior?" Cornelius sighs heavily, "Light turns to dark. Life to death. For all eternity."

On the monitors, a ship has appeared on the frontier of Federation Territory. "Mr. President. We have a Mondoshawan spaceship at the frontier requesting permission to enter our territory," One of the personnel states. The President feels overwhelmed, "I guess I should make a decision." Cornelius nods, "They are the only ones who can help."

A General Munro from Korben's old command speaks up, "Sir, the Mondoshawan do not belong to the Federation. We do not know their intentions. I recommend a full trinuclear assault!" The President yells at the general, "Did you see that...thing...swallow our battleship like a gum drop?! You can't even tell me what it is! I ask for your opinion and you give me bullshit!" He turns to his personnel, "Give them permission to enter our territory with my warmest regards."

Cornelius feels temporary relief, thinking he might not have to wake the guardians, "Thank you, Mr. President."

That relief is short lived as they listen to the Mondoshawan ship enter the Federation territory only to be attacked by two unidentified ships. Everyone in the president's office hears the Mondoshawan captain's last words, "Time is of no importance..."

Back in Korben's apartment, Snowball is watching tv after finishing her food. Korben was getting ready to leave for work. She tells her cat, "Don't watch too much, sweetie. It'll rot your brain." When she opens her door, she is met with the muzzle of a huge gun brandished by a twitchy mugger. Korben tilts her head as the mugger yells, "Give me the cash!"

She pays no mind to the threat, "Benn here long?" Mugger twitches, "Don't fuck with me. Give me the cash or I'll blow you into tomorrow!" Unperturbed, Korben looks over the weapon, "Isn't that a Z140? Alleviated titanium. Neuro charged assault model?" The mugger is thrown off balance, "Uh?" "You know you could hurt someone with this puppy. Good thing it's not loaded," Korben tries not to smile.

The mugger looks at her lost, "It's not?" Korben points to the little yellow button on the side of the gun, "You have to push the little yellow button to load it." The mugger takes her advice and pushes the already glowing button to turn it off, essentially unloading the gun as Korben pulls her own weapon out. With her empty hand, she snatches the unloaded weapon from the mugger, "You know these things are very illegal. You could get in a shit load of trouble. I better hang onto it for you." A storage container meant for shoes and coats but is filled with similar guns dropped from the ceiling. Korben shoves the newly acquired gun in there.

The mugger's jaw hangs open for a moment before he realizes his mistake and runs off. Korben shakes her head, stows her weapon in her holster and heads for her cab. She enters her license after the AI greets her. The AI announces she has 9 points left on her license as she pulls into ongoing traffic in New York city.

While the president is giving orders to close all borders and declare a state of general alert, Cornelius collapses into a chair lost in thought. "What are we going to do?" The priest asked. The president nudges his guards, "This is government business now. Go home and get some rest. We'll keep you updated." Vito Cornelius and his apprentice David were escorted out of the president's office as he ordered the search for survivors.

They were in luck. Sort of. An arm was recovered. The arm belonged to the Supreme Being, which was carrying a case but only the handle remained. The arm was being transported on a surgical cart down the hall of the Nucleological Center, the most sterile of environments. Professor Mactillburg and General Munro walked alongside the surgical cart. "Is this the survivor?" Munro wondered. Mactillburg says, "Not exactly. Only one cell survived."

"Have you identified it?" Munro wanted to know. "It's not that easy. We've never encountered anything like it before. You see, normal human beings have 40 DNA memo groums. This one has 200,000," Mactillburg says. Munro looks confused, "Talk English doc." Mactillburg dumbs it down, "This cell is like a huge library. It has infinite genetic knowledge stored inside. Almost like it was engineered." Munro shakes his head, "Sounds like a freak." A smiling Mactillburg responds, "Yeah. Can't wait to meet him."

They enter the lab to reconstruct the being inside a huge glass turbine. Mactillburg shows Munro an example of a human DNA chain, "This is fascinating. The compositional elements of his DNA chain are the same as ours, there are simply more of them tightly packed. His knowledge is probably limitless." Munro is worried, "Is there any danger? Some kind of virus?" "No, we put it through the cellular hygiene detector. The cell is for lack of a better word...perfect," Mactillburg is excited.

Munro hesitates a moment before he uses his personal key to open the self-destruct box, "Alright. Go ahead, but Mr. Perfect better be polite or I'll turn him into cat food." General Munro's hand hovers over the self-destruct box as the machine begins to reconstruct the Supreme Being. Step by step bones are formed, then the nervous, and muscle systems. Whole veins wrapped around the muscles. An entire body is forming before their eyes. One of the other doctors announces, "Three seconds to UV shield." The glass turbine is covered by a shield obscuring the view of the body.

Mactillburg explains this step, "This is a crucial phase. The reconstruction of pigment. Cells are bombarded with slightly greasy solar atoms which forces the body to react, to protect themselves. Means growing skin." Munro grossed out, "Wonderful."

"The reconstruction phase is complete. Re-animation in progress," Assistant two says. Mactillburg orders, "Activate life support system." An electrical discharge fills the turbine causing the body to jerk. The sound of a heartbeat could be heard over the loudspeaker. Mactillburg pushes a button to remove the shield to reveal a young, beautiful, and very nude woman. Mactillburg notices Munro gawking at the woman and gently moves his hand away from the self-destruct box.

Munro is hypnotized by her beauty, "I'd like to get a few pictures for the archives before she wakes up." Mactillburg smiles at his reaction, "Like I said. Perfect." All the while, a camera moved over the woman's face in the turbine to take some photos for the general.

The flash from the camera jolted the Supreme Being awake. She scurries into a corner of the glass turbine, shaking from the cold, and looking for the case she was holding for the Mondoshawans. She kicked at the glass angrily, "Ouacra cocha o dayodomo binay ouacra mo cocha ferji akba ligounai makta keratapla. Tokemata tokemata! Seno santonoi-aypa! Minoi ay Cheba! Givomana seno!"

Munro is the first to ask, "What is she saying?" Mactillburg instructs his assistant, "Activate the phonic detector. And for god's sake get her some clothes!" An assistant pushes a few buttons and some clothes enter the turbine through a small trap door in the bottom. The phonic detector is not advanced enough to translate her language.

The General moves closer to the turbine, "Is this thing solid?" Mactillburg smiles, "An elephant couldn't kick through it." Munro swings his personnel badge/key in front of the being, "If you want to get out there princess, you're going to need to communicate better." The already angry Supreme Being took this stare down as a challenge. She drew closer to the surface of the turbine and punched through the glass to grab Munro. She yanked him forward into the glass, knocking him out, taking his badge, inserting it into the control panel, and opening the turbine.

The Supreme Being is still a bit wobbly on her legs when two guards try to grab her. She throws them across the room. Even though Mactillburg is impressed, he sets off a general alarm.

The girl runs through a maze of corridors looking for a way out. A squad of security guards appear in front of her and open fire without warning. The girl takes a leap into the rafters, grabs an air vent, and dives into the air shaft. The cops try to jump up to the vent but none can reach it. They move to find another way in, hoping to cut her off before she can escape.

After taking many twists and turns, the girl comes to a dead-end. A grate that leads to outside. The girl shoves the grate off and climbs onto the ledge. She is overwhelmed for a moment by the height, noise, and all the flying vehicles. The girl turns to look behind her when the cops try to coax her back inside. Instead, she leaps from the ledge.

The girl falls for several seconds before crashing through the roof of a cab. The cabby is stunned and tries to regain control of her cab as she pulls over to the side. The cab's AI informs her, "You just had an accident. Seven points are being removed. You have one point left on your license." Korben ignores her AI for the moment as she unbuckles her seat belt to check the damages. It was then she saw the girl, "Hey, are you alive back there?"

Korben could see the girl moving through the debris of her cab and sighs, "Okay. That's a good sign." Any further interaction is interrupted by sirens as several cop cars surround Korben's cab. The cop car in front of the cab, "You have an unauthorized passenger in your vehicle. We are going to detain her. Please keep your hands on the wheel. Thank you for your cooperation." Korben looks back and forth between the girl and the multiple cop cars, "This is overkill for one girl." She faces the girl, "Who are you?"

The girl gives Korben a pleading look, hoping to convey her desperation to escape the cops. Korben sighs, "Finger's going to kill me." Since they're surrounded on all sides, the only direction Korben could take is down. So, she kills her engine and her vehicle drops quickly before she restarts it and speeds away. Korben did this so quickly that the cops were slow to follow her. Korben hears the girl yelling at her in a strange language, and tells her that she doesn't understand and to hold on. Korben continues to speed through traffic before diving further down into the lower levels to hide in the dense smog.

After several minutes of hiding to make sure they were no longer being pursued, Korben checks on the girl. She finds that the girl is injured and barely conscious, "Hey. Wake up." The girl groaned and gave only a name in response, "Vito Cornelius. Priest." Then passed out again. Korben bonked her head against her bulletproof partition, "Shit."

Vito Cornelius was woken from his nap by load knocking. When he opened the door, the sight of two women, one of which was agitated, the other was unconscious. "I'm looking for Vito Cornelius. Directory says he lived here," Korben says. "That's me. How can I help..." Cornelius didn't even finish the question before Korben stormed into the place dragging the other girl.

"This girl crashed into my cab, gave me your name, and passed out. She has no ID, didn't give her name, but she has a strange tattoo on her inner wrist," Korben indicated the girl's right wrist. The priest gently takes the girl's wrist and examines the tattoo. It's divided into four distinct sections depicting the four elements. Cornelius gasps, "The fifth element." Then proceeds to faint. Korben sighs once again, "Finger is seriously going to kill me."

A few moments later, Korben slaps Cornelius, "Hey, wake up." The priest shakes off the slap, "Who are you?" "I brought the girl. Remember," Korben points to the still unconscious girl. Cornelius does a double take, "The fifth element is a girl." Korben snorts, "Notice that now, did you? You know who she is then?" Cornelius is not wanting to explain to this cab driver who the Supreme Being decides to evade the question by running out of the room.

While the priest is gone, Korben tries to wake the girl by gently shaking but it gets progressively more harsh the longer she takes to regain consciousness. The girl finally jolts awake, relinquishing Korben of her gun and pointing it at her, "Eto akta gamat!" "Whoa there, sweetheart. I was just trying to wake you up. Didn't mean to invade your space,"Korben held her hands up in surrender.

Korben puts a bit of distance between the two of them, "What's your name?" The girl looks confused so Korben points to herself, "My name is Korben Dallas." Then points to the girl, "What is your name?" The girl answers while still pointing the gun at Korben, "Leeloo Minai Lekarariba-Lamminai-Tchai Ekbat De Sebat." Korben's eyes widened before narrowing in confusion, "Do you have a shorter name?" The girl thinks for a moment, "Leeloo."

It was then Cornelius and his apprentice David reappeared with the key. Leeloo was happy to see them. Cornelius shoved Korben out the door with her gun and slammed the door in her face. Korben stood there stunned at the days' events before going home.

David observes Cornelius and Leeloo before asking, "Father? Should we wake the guardians?" Neither of the men knew how capable Leeloo truly was. Supreme Being or not. All they see is a petite, young girl. A girl who was learning everything about all things in alphabetical order and was only on the letter "C".

"Make the preparations. It is time to wake the Salvatore Brothers," Cornelius told David.

AN: This will not follow the movie completely. Also, learning to type on a Japanese keyboard takes some getting used to. This story is so much fun to write. Damon and Stefan will definitely enjoy being in the future.
