Chapter 20
Rob goes into the realtor office with Mr. Douglas, while the others pace back and forth in front of the building.
Tim leans against the car as he watches the others nervously awaiting Rob's final decision. Adam couldn't help but notice a slight smile on his lover's lips.
"You know, don't you?" Adam whispers. "You know what Rob has decided about the property."
"What makes you think that?" Tim asks quietly with a smirk on his face as he continues to watch the others.
"Don't think that I've forgotten that you can hear people's thoughts. Your whole attitude changed while we were out at the property." Adam says. "You know."
"Well, let's just say that you can probably start picking out curtains for our new home." Tim says with a smile.
"Oh, my God! This is really happening?" Adam says as his eyes widen with excitement.
"Shhh." Tim quietens him before the others overheard him. " I don't want to spoil the surprise."
"You know you get first to pick of the houses, right?" Adam tells him.
"And why's that?" Tim asks. He had been so busy channeling into Rob's thoughts that he was unaware of the others' conversation.
"We all decided that we would go by seniority of who was in Dead Town the longest. You were first and then Jenika and so on." Adam says.
"I think I know which one I want." Tim says as he looks away from Adam to keep him from seeing him smile. He actually liked the brown house that they looked at but knew that Adam really liked the weird house made of bottles.
"Cool." Adam says in a somewhat sad tone. He had his heart set on the bottle house but could tell that Tim liked the brown house. The brown house was okay but the bottle house just stood out to him.
They all stop what they were doing when the door of the realtor opens. Rob and Mr. Douglas shake hands before the realtor goes back inside.
The group anxiously waits on the decision.
"WE GOT IT!!" Rob announces as he waves the deed into the air.
The gang celebrated in the street with cheers, hugs and high-fives.
"Now what?" Tim asks as he held Adam close to his side.
"We need to go to the electric company and the water department. I'm sure they will have to send crews out to check everything." Rob says.
"We really appreciate you doing this, Rob." Tim says as he hugs his bearded friend. "You know you didn't have to."
"As I said, Mayor, I love a challenge." Rob smiles. "I actually got the land at a very good price. The price of the property had already been reduced and I actually was able to get it even cheaper. It was a steal."
They head over to the water department and the electric company to get things started.
They decided that the train station was the first priority for water and electricity. The houses could be run by generators. But the wiring would have to be checked. Each person would be responsible for electricity for the home they choose.
After taking care of business, they stop by Mel's Diner for a quick bite before heading back to their property. There was a very important decision to be made. Who would get which house?
"Man!! I can't believe this place is ours." Avi shakes his head as they get out of the vehicles.
"This is going to be so awesome." Jenika says.
"I can't wait to get started." Chris smiles.
"Do y'all plan on doing the work yourselves or do I need to hire some workers?" Rob asks as they walk from house to house. "You tell me what you think and I'll tell you what I think." He laughs.
"Well..." Tim says as he pulls at his whiskers in thought. "I don't know about everyone else but I think that the train station will need professional renovations. The homes we might be able to do ourselves."
"I'm pretty good at carpentry." Chris says.
"I've done some too." Chance adds.
"Me too." Nate says.
"I've built birdhouses." Sami giggles. "Does that count?"
"I know you have a lot of plans to make the train station into a multi-task building." Rob says. "That's gonna take a lot of planning and work. So I would suggest hiring someone to do it."
"That would work. We can give the contractors our ideas and they can go from there." Tim nods.
"I sort of had my decision made about this place before I even got here. So..." Rob chuckles as he reaches for his wallet. He pulls out a Visa card and hands it to Tim. "I'll take care of the contractors and everything that goes into the train station and this will take care of the materials you'll need for the houses."
"Are you serious? Rob, we still have most of that money left that you gave us in Minnesota." Tim says as he is reluctant to take the card.
"Tim, you guys are going to need furnishings for these homes once they're done. You can't sleep on the floors." Rob chuckles. "Please don't deny me wanting to get you guys settled. You people are my family."
Tim slowly reaches for the card.
"Thank you, so much." Tim whispers as he pulls the doctor into a tight hug.
"But I do want one of the left-over buildings made into a guest house so Kelsey and I will have a place to stay when we visit." Rob chuckles.
"You got it." Tim says with a smile.
"Okay. Now for the choosing of our homes." Austin says. "Timmy? Make your choice."
"Wow, this is tough." Tim says as he looks around at the different houses. His mind was suddenly flooded by thoughts of the others. Hoping that he wouldn't choose a certain house. Adam stands quietly by his side, praying that he would choose the bottle house. His thoughts came through loud and clear, over-riding the other thoughts. Tim actually wanted the brown house but Adam's happiness was the top priority. "I choose, uh, I pick the bottle house."
Adam breathes a sigh of relief and hangs his head.
** A/N: The following pictures are of the homes that each chooses. Please, keep in mind that these pictures are BEFORE renovations. I will also post a picture of the train station. A huge thank-you to ObsessedwithTidam for taking a road trip and getting these pictures for me. You're the greatest!!

"Thank you." Adam whispers.
"You're very welcome." Tim says as he kisses his lover on the temple.
"Jenika, you're next." Avi says.
"I fell in love with this place the minute I saw it." Jenika giggles. "And since it's just me, I pick the two-room brothel."

"Just imagine how much f*cking went on in that little house." Austin laughs.
"Okay, Austin. You're next." Tim says.
"Olena and I decided on the old stone cabin. It looks rough now but it will be awesome when it's done." Austin smiles.

"Me next." Avi says with excitement.
"Yep." Tim smiles.
"Y'all are gonna think I'm nuts. But I think that train caboose is totally rock and rock. I choose it." Avi says with a huge grin.

"It looks pretty rough, Avi." Chris chuckles.
"All it needs is a little love." Avi laughs.
"Chris? I believe it's your turn to choose for you and Nate." Rob says.
"We really like the old white ranch house. We choose it." Chris says and Nate nods in agreement.

Chance laughs as he and Sami give each other a high-five.
"We were holding our breath." Chance laughs. "We both fell in love with the brown house. We were so afraid someone would choose it."

"I almost did." Tim says with a chuckle.
"You did it again, didn't you." Adam says as he looks around at his lover.
"Did what?" Tim asks, putting on his most innocent face.
"You know what." Adam replies.
"Okay, so that leaves the old jailhouse. That can be made into a guest house for your families or for me and Kelsey when we come to visit." Rob says.

"That'll work." Tim nods. "And that (pointing to the train station) will be the kitchen, shower, laundry room, hang out and anything else we need."

Rob hands out the keys of the homes to each new owner. Soon he is left standing alone as his friends run to check out their new homes and to start their planning.
"Rob? Why don't you go check out the guest house? Yeah, Rob, why don't you." Rob mumbles as he starts toward the old jailhouse.
