Chapter Five
Nick walked through the empty streets of Chicago and the heart monitor felt off. Why could he hear it? This wasn't normal for people to hear unless they were in a hospital or they have to have one in their homes. This was strange because Nick wasn't at a hospital or home. His home was an hour and a half away. As he got closer to the woods he took a deep breath. He tried to clear his throughs and try to figure out what was going on. Nothing felt the same as it was before everything turned sideways.
As Nick walk inside the woods he felt like someone was following him. There were no animals in sight. All he saw was the bones of the animals as he got deeper into the woods. The heart monitor was still going and it was loud. He thought if he were to get to the heart monitor maybe it would wake him up right? He was going to find out if he could find it. Nick kept walking and then the monitor stopped then he heard Mitch's voice.
"What are you doing in the woods, Nick?" Mitch asked with a puzzled look.
"I'm following a sound," Nick sighed with disappointment.
"What sound are you hearing?" Mitch chuckled.
"Everything here is dead quiet," Mitch added before Nick could speak.
"I keep hearing a heart monitor sound," Nick spoke softly.
"Odd I haven't heard anything," Mitch laughed.
"Why are you here don't you hate me?" Nick asked trying to get things out of his mind.
"Oh, I still hate you Nick, but once you wake reality is different. I'm sorry," Mitch informed Nick.
"Why are you sorry Mitch?" Nick asked with confusion.
"Mitch?" Nick said again.
"Are you listening?" Nick asked again.
Nick sighed and turned around and Mitch was gone again. Nick groaned and kept walking.
"Every time Mitch mentions Wake up he disappears," Nick whispered.
Nick walked for what felt like hours without any breaks. Nick was used to walking for a while. He used to do track and karate in high school. It was something Nick loved doing even when his parents didn't believe in him. Nick didn't care really but it made him stronger than before. Nick came to a clearing and there was a campfire and a very old tree log. Nick never saw this part of this forest before when he go on a walk through these woods.
Nick felt tired. He walked to the tree log and sat on the ground leaning against the log. He felt something next to him and it was a pack of matches. He grabbed three and lit them up and throw them into the campfire. Nick yawned and fell asleep. He felt numb as he tried to move nothing happened. He tried moving his hand it felt like he squeezed something.
