Chapter 9-Alpha King

Sapphire's POV:

It has been around two days since I settled here. For whatever reason I didn't see Mr.Hoodied-guy after that night. Alpha King's mother visited me a lot though and for some reason she seems to be extremely fond of me. As of now I am a freeloader here and being the generous persons they are they don't ask anything of me. But I simply can't eat and sleep and expect to be fed. So I help out in the palace kitchen and also at the orphanage.

Work at the kitchen is a lot considering this is the Royal Palace so of course there are a lot of people in here. But still with the work I did back at home, if I can call it that, this work is very simple. Hunter is happier here since there is none here to despise his presence. But still he hangs out around me playing in the kitchen. At first I was worried because kitchen is not the safest place for a kid.

But then again Hunter is a good kid who always listens to my word and the workers in the Palace are kind people too. The chief cook is a kind person and he doesn't mind Hunter's presence, in fact he even treats him and spoils him. When I say cook don't expect a kind woman or old pot belly man, because Carson, the head chef, is a smoking hot young chef. That's a rarity to be frank since most of the were-wolves are more about muscles and power, at least as far as I have seen and don't go into other fields much.

Of course not everyone because then our whole werewolf world would be done for. They go into other fields but cooking is the least interesting field for men. They just oust this field as something that woman should do. I am glad Carson didn't think and he was brave enough to follow his dream despite the criticism that might have followed him.

"That smells delicious." Sylvia, previous Alpha Queen commented as soon as she entered the kitchen.

"Thank you Ma'm."

Her eyes immediately narrowed and a scowl appeared on her face. I gave her a sheepish smile realizing my mistake.

"How many times do I have to tell you to call me Sylvia?" She huffed.

"Looks like the number of times you said is not enough Sylvia." Carson butted in smiling. He likes to tease me very much and never misses any opportunity.

"Sorry! Force of habit."

"You should come out of that habit or else I will make you call me mom. In fact please do start calling me mom from this instant. That's the order as your Alpha Queen." She replied jokingly but I could sense some seriousness.

"You mean previous Alpha Queen." Carson interrupted again making me smile. He is quite familiar and on friendly terms with Slyvia to the point that they can joke around with each other not caring about the titles or positions in the society. That is another thing I like about the Royal family. They don't give much importance to the titles and mingle well with the common folks. Alpha King's mother and father are such down to earth persons and I believe his beta is a good person too. Though I never bet the Alpha King himself, I believe he is a great person too!.

"Hey! Since we don't have Alpha Queen there is no female powerful than me now so she has to obey." She replied pouting. Sometimes she behaves like a teenage girl opposite to the elegant image one might have of an Alpha Queen but still I am sure that she must have done an amazing job as the Alpha Queen and is in fact as elegant as one. Then she went on and tasted the soup I was making for the dinner.

"Wow! It tastes delicious too! What is this called?"

"Thank you. That's called Cockaleekie."

"Cock-a-what?"

"Cock-a-leekie, a Scottish soup made from leaks and peppered chicken stock." Carson answered in my stead.

"Wow! How do you make that? More like how do you even know such a dish to begin with? You are truly amazing Sapphire! I don't know any foreign dishes."

"More like can't cook at all." Carson mumbled. The thing is Alpha King's mother can't cook for her life. And I am talking about the extreme kind where she can set off fire in the kitchen heating microwavable items. Talk about talent! And the true problem lies in the fact that she doesn't understand her own skills and insists on cooking for her husband again and again. I am actually surprised of the fact that the previous Alpha King didn't die of food poison and I am really not exaggerating though I wish I was. She is truly that bad.

"What did you say?" Sylvia mumbled calmly though the murder intent in her voice is clear.

"Nothing!" Carson waved his hands frantically in a denial motion.

"Like you are any better! You are so called master chef and can cook the tastiest dishes in the world but here is my cutie-pie Sapphire who can cook a thousand times better than you. You should be put in dungeon for lying in your resume!"

"Umm..that's a bit too much." I mumbled but again I was ignored between their banter.

"Excuse me but that is your biased opinion. Moreover I don't remember mentioning any such thing in my resume! That was what was said about me by some great critics of the world and if I remember correctly I never applied for the job. You guys were the ones who wanted to have me."

I tried to interrupt but it was too late since they started arguing back and forth and somewhere in the middle food items were being exchanged, I mean they started attacking each other with whatever food items are within hand's reach and I can't help but sweat-drop at their antics. I stood to the side until they cooled off because once they start none can get stop them

A good ten minutes later the entire kitchen was covered with food items since Sylvia's attack on Carson somehow turned into a food war making me sigh in relief that we already transferred the dinner to the dining room except for the soup which was safe. Sometimes I feel that Sylvia and Carson are more of a kids than Hunter who is silently watching the so-called grown ups fight silently from the corner wondering what the heck is going on.

"We should clean up if we want to make it to dinner." I said hesitantly to the panting grownups on the floor.

They looked around the kitchen as if just realizing what they did and gave me sheepish smiles.

"Not my fault! His!" Sylvia replied pointing at Carson.

"Hey!" Carson objected but shut up after receiving death glare.

"That's fine. You guys go and clean up yourselves, I will clean the kitchen."

"Sorry!" Both of them pouted like little kids making me smile at them.

"No problem. Hurry up and move. It'a almost time for dinner."

"Okay! I was about to call Thomas for dinner but got side tracked here so if you finish first call my husband, okay?"

"Which is what would most likely happen." Carson mumbled making Sylvia narrow her eyes at him. Seeing the start of another fight I quickened to interrupt them.

"Are you joining us Carson?"

On normal breakfast, lunch or dinner any meal of the day is an open event where anyone can join the Royalty(except the guards and other such people who are on duty) without the consideration of ranks. That is again one of the things I love here.

"Most probably. Serene is craving your company." I smiled nodding at him. Serene is his heavily pregnant mate who took a liking to me and doesn't mind my shy nature. I am comfortable with her and would like to consider us friends. Both of them left to clean up and I started cleaning the kitchen. Like Carson predicted I was done before they could return so now it is my duty to inform Alpha King's father it seems. But what about Hunter? I don't want to leave him alone.

"Hello Sapphire!" Serene greeted me walking into the kitchen with a smile which turned into a scowl after seeing the cleaning utensils.

"Let me guess, my mate." She sighed to which I smiled sheepishly.

"Why do I get the feeling that I would have to look after two children instead of one?"

"Knowing Carson that's probably right."

"Yeah he's more likely to join our junior rather than looking after him."

"Dinner's ready and we need to call Alpha Thomas. Can you do that since I don't want to leave Hunter alone?"

"No way am I doing that! Not only does this pregnant ass doesn't want to move but being in his presence is suffocating."

"Why?" I asked confused. "He is a nice person."

"Of course he is. But that doesn't mean he is any less dominating. The power he emits, no matter how friendly he is I can't seem to relax completely so I will leave it to you as a favor to pregnant lady. Wait, come to think of it, you never were uncomfortable in his presence except for your usual shy self."

"Ha-ha. Since he is so friendly I often tend to ignore his power, my bad." I said smiling awkwardly hoping she accepts that. "Look after Hunter till I come back then?" I ran away without waiting for her reply.

How could I even forget about it? Wolves always emit an aura of power but the intensity of the aura varies with power so to say the auras around Alphas and Betas is dominating in the least. I observed that even the aura of the common folk in the capital is much more powerful than the people back in my previous pack, surprisingly on the level of a pack beta's aura. So one can only imagine how dominating or rather suffocating the aura of the Alpha is.

I found that their aura is not dominating to me. To be frank I don't know much power they have over me. A normal alpha command has no power over me but coming to an Alpha King's command or his power I am not sure since I never tested it or even displayed my power.

True showing off aura is like second nature since were-wolves thrive on power but growing up like I am and intent on not revealing myself as pure white wolf looks like I unconsciously grew in the habit of repressing my aura.

I am no longer with my so called parents but still I can't carelessly reveal myself. I don't know what consequences would my being pure white wolf would bring. So I would like it for as long as possible. That is to say I don't show any power aura, making me look like an equivalent to omega of the pack. Thankfully the Royalty are not his pack are not people to mistreat omegas.

Immersed in thoughts I almost didn't recognize who was walking a few feet before me. The key word here being almost. His back might be turned towards me but I know that it is definitely Mr.Hoodied-guy and add with the fact that I never looked at him his silhouette is the only means of recognition which I have no problem with.

"Mr.Hoodied-guy!" I called out to him but he didn't respond and he seemed to be walking fast adding his long legs in the equation that equaled to me running to catch up to him. Finally catching up with him I caught the sleeve of his shirt without thinking afraid that I would miss him.

"Mr.Hoodied-guy!" I called and almost immediately there was another voice calling or rather addressing him which had me frozen to the spot.

"Alpha King Knox!"

The said person kneeled before him with his head bowed in respect as one should greet the Alpha King making it clear that there is no mistake in the greeting which next leads to my blunder. His head might be bowed but I can still feel his bewildered gaze between my hand clutching the hem of Alpha King's shirt and Alpha king himself.

Mr.Hoodied-guy is Alpha King??????
