Bonnie made her way home from Elena's after lunch and pulled out her computer. She would do some token searching for Stefan in the midst of finding legit occult shops that were open in this time period where she could sell her spells and put the word out. Once she had a good list and two potential locations on Stefan that were forwarded to both Elena and Damon, she turned her attention towards organizing the spells from her grimoires. Some were too dangerous to fall into just anyone's hands and those she would hold back, but the rest were fair game. She spent much of the next six weeks that way, though did manage to run into Damon a few times as well. It was hard coming up with excuses to just go by and see him. Especially since she was human now and had pretty much nothing to offer. So, yes. She was moping a bit too.

She didn't realize until Elena's birthday party how close she and Damon were getting and she realized that she needed to step up her game. She needed to push her way in and find a way past Damon's walls before it was too late. And she could start with the party. She noticed Damon alone at one point and walked over to talk to him. "Nice party."

"I do have something of a gift for these sorts of things," Damon smirked.

"I think it's just what Elena needs to cheer her up," Bonnie tried to do some digging to find out where his head was.

"I hope so," Damon sighed. "You know she's been learning to fight from Ric and I?"

"Why wouldn't she tell me that?" Bonnie frowned.

"Maybe didn't want you to feel bad with your whole magic situation," Damon shrugged.

"It's not a bad idea though. Maybe you could teach me to fight too?" Bonnie asked, seeing an in and taking it. "You did mention how Bennett enemies would be after me at some point."

"I suppose I could be bothered," Damon agreed. "We'll need to catch you up to Elena before we can teach you together though, so if you want to be here around nine am we can get started. The day after tomorrow since you'll probably be hung over tomorrow. Even I'm not that cruel," Damon chuckled.

"Okay yeah. That works. But making me get up that early during the summer is pretty cruel too," she joked.

"What do you expect from an evil vampire," Damon smirked.

"Vampire yes. Evil no," Bonnie replied.

"You won't be saying that by nine thirty on Monday," Damon grinned.

"If it'll be a whole half-hour before I'm cursing you, then you're going soft," she laughed.

"Don't tempt me witchy," Damon said smugly and then noticed Bonnie's wince at the name. "Yeah, I need to think of a new nickname for you."

"Because my /actual/ name isn't good enough?" Bonnie asked amusedly.

"We'll see," Damon shrugged. Actual names were for friends. People he really cared about. He wasn't sure if he was ready to throw her in that category yet. That didn't mean they couldn't have fun. "C'mon. Let's dance."

"Sounds good to me," Bonnie grinned and let him drag her to the dance floor where he'd spent most of the party in between checking on Elena. She danced sort of with him, but overall with a group for quite a while before she needed a break and went to grab another drink. Just being that close to him and seeing him laughing and having fun was like a balm to her soul. It was so much easier to cope with not having her magic when he was around and she could see the reminders of why she'd done it. For that alone she would enjoy Damon teaching her to fight. It was something that she'd never really bothered learning in the future either, always having magic to fall back on. She chatted with Elena to see how she was holding up during her break and then dragged her back to the dance floor with her, finding their way near Damon again, who wasn't complaining at all about his new dance partners. Either of them. Though Elena did get quite a bit more attention than Bonnie did, but Bonnie expected that. She would work her way in there soon enough now that she had a plan.

Bonnie was a little bit hungover the next day, but not so bad that a nice breakfast and hot shower couldn't do the trick and she finally got herself in gear to get her magic sold. She'd finished getting it all organized a few days before and then took the rings and that spell, along with her list of other spells, to the best occult shop she could find. It had been years from now before she really connected to the witch community and by then most smart witches had abandoned the area around Mystic Falls, though a lot had come back once the school opened, but they were generally all different witches, so it didn't help her with navigating things in this time period.

Bonnie first got the spell done on the rings before handing over the list and telling her that she was selling the family magic. She explained that she'd lost her magic permanently and was the last of her line and didn't even know any other witches to bequeath it to, which helped with some of the disgust over the matter, but not all of it. The witch who ran the shop promised to get the word out though and Bonnie would keep an eye on the email address she'd made for this purpose. That ended up taking the rest of her day and she went home and got the rings put aside in a safe place for when they were needed.

The next morning, she dressed appropriately for physical activity and headed to Damon's for her first fighting lesson. First though, she had something for him. "Here, I thought you might like a copy of this."

"What is it?" Damon asked curiously as he took the paper from her.

"A copy of the daylight spell. In case you ever need a replacement or anything. I thought you might like to have a copy handy."

"Oh...well...I appreciate it, but I already have a copy," Damon chuckled and handed it back to her. It was a good proof of her intentions though.

"How?" she asked curiously.

"I stayed up late with Emily's grimoire before handing it over," Damon said nonchalantly.

"Oh. Okay. That works then," she shrugged. "I'm making sure Caroline has a copy too."

"Good thinking," Damon nodded. "Now that you're not able to do it anymore, we might need to find another witch to do so someday."

"I'm selling most of my spells too, including that one, so there will probably be witches that know it anyway," Bonnie told him.

"I might be interested in buying some of those spells if you got a list?" Damon said thoughtfully. There may be others that could be useful down the line if he could find witches to cast them.

"Not on me, no, but if you have an email I can shoot you the list once I get home. I'll even send you the unredacted list. I took off some of the more dangerous spells for the public and all."

"I'd appreciate that," Damon said and grabbed something to write his email down on. Not that he used email often, but he did have one at least. "You're willing to give me access to dangerous spells?" he had to ask.

"I trust you," Bonnie said matter-of-factly. If Damon wanted someone to suffer, he wasn't going to turn to magic to do it, after all. Especially since it would mean involving a witch who would know what he'd done as well.

"Thank you," Damon said confusedly before shaking it off. "But we're not here to talk magic. We're here to whip you into shape, so let's get started," he led her outside to the lawn.

What followed was the most grueling two hours of Bonnie's life. Even her bruises had bruises. And she'd been wishing she still had magic to /actually/ curse him more than once. Telling him that just made him laugh. She'd had fun though overall and he did assure her that it wouldn't be that bad all the time. He just needed to know where to start with her. She resolved to start getting in better shape. That would be necessary even without the fight training. Magic burned off a lot of calories and she'd noticed that she was starting to put on a few pounds since she lost her magic, so she'd been considering taking up something like jogging anyway. Now it was just a definite.

Once Bonnie left, Damon sat down with a drink for a few hours before he needed to meet Ric and Elena and found his thoughts straying to Bonnie. She trusted him. With dangerous spells that shouldn't be let out into the world. She was going to give him a copy of the daylight spell in case he ever needed it. She didn't even seem upset about him stealing spells from the grimoire before. Was it really possible that she wasn't actually up to something? That she actually did accept him and want to be friends? Why? For Elena's sake? Or was there more than that?

Damon hadn't come to any conclusion by the time his phone beeped that he had an email and he opened it up to find the list of spells from Bonnie and started marking the ones he wanted. It wasn't like he couldn't afford it after all and if she was hard up enough for money to be doing this, he would help her out. In a way that wouldn't make it obvious that he was trying to help. It was that thinking that had him adding more spells to his list than he normally would have and he would even pay the listed price for the others he'd stolen from Emily's grimoire. This list included /all/ of the Bennett grimoires though. And maybe even from all the other grimoires she'd squirreled away from the Martins. It was almost two hours before he returned the email with the list of spells he wanted and a note that he would go to the bank and get cash for them by their session the next day. He didn't keep /that/ kind of cash laying around. Even just paying a witch to cast a spell didn't come cheap. Paying for the spell itself that could be used indefinitely was much more expensive.
