A few days later

*Adelyne's POV*

It was nice to see fimiliar faces. Lori, Rick, and Carl. We had known eachother for a while since I was pregnant with Katie in fact. And as Katie and grew up she and Carl would play together so they were friends. I had no idea they were still alive I thought everyone I knew was dead. I had met a few people of the group. Andrea and her sister Amy, Jacqui and TDog, Dale, Glenn, Carol and her daughter Sophia. Carol was married to a man named Ed and he was an asshole and he was hitting Carol I knew it I seen her brusies and how uncomfortable she was around him. I already knew Rick. Lori, Carl and unfortunately Shane. Shane had never wronged me in any way but for some reason I had never really liked him. And of course I met Merle and Daryl. Mmm Daryl! Stop it Adelyne. I was watching Katie play with Sophia, Carl, and two other kids but she was fed and hungry so that made me happy. I was hanging up laundry helping Lori out when she spoke.

"It's nice to see you" she told me smiling.

I looked away from Katie for a second.

"You too. I thought you guys were gone" I explained to her and looked back to Katie as Lori told me her story.

I smiled Katie looked so happy and that made me happy she needed happiness in her life. She was only seven years old I wanted her to still be able to play. Mike was talking with Shane and Daryl came out the RV and instantly he had my attention. Why? Why was he so good looking? I wanted to know him but I doubted he would even let me.

"She's safe Adelyne you don't have to worry" Lori told me moving her hair from her eyes.

"That's like telling water not be wet. I've worried about her her whole life. Now more than ever, how's Carl?"

"He's good smart. But I'm glad he's a kid still and has freinds to play with exspecially Katie. He knows her and he's ecstatic that you're here. Rick and I think of you as our daughter so to Carl you're his sister."

I looked at Lori and nodded and seen Rick had joined Shane and Mike. But my eyes roamed back over to Daryl who was looking at me I smiled at him and he got up walking away.

*Daryl's POV*

As soon as Adelyne looked at me I walked away and went to my tent thinking. God damn she was so pretty and the way the sunlight was hitting her hair she looked gorgeous. Stop Daryl. Damnit just stop! A girl like Adelyne would never be interested in me anyway. But I didn't want Mike to have her. 'She's mine' that was a like a challange to me. Adelyne wasn't property and the look he had when he looked at her was a lustful and in love look. But I didn't see that look in her when she talked to him. Somehow I knew she wasn't in love with him but he was in love with her. Thank god there was an extra tent we had so Mike didn't have to sleep with Adelyne. For some reason that made me feel better, and he better keep his hands off her. I'd make sure of it. I was brought out of my thoughts when a ball came bouncing into my tent and Katie came running in after it and stopped when she seen me.

"I-I'm sorry, the ball just-um-we.." she stuttered obviously nervous.

I sat up and gave her the ball.

'It's okay I'm not mad sweetheart" I told her.

Katie stood there looking cute holding her pink ball.

"You're not?"

"Nope not at all. How do you like it here?" I asked.

I felt weird I never got a long with kids. But Katie was nice and so adorable and she looked just like Adelyne. She was going to grow up to be just like her. Strong I could tell Adelyne was strong woman and I knew that. She held me at gunpoint with no fear in her eyes. That's how I knew she was strong and she was fiesty just like Merle said and I had to admit it was sexy. Katie smiled,

"I like it alot there are people to play with. Sometimes Mommy would play catch with me but mostly she was busy. She said she was trying to make stability whatever that means"

I looked at Katie shocked. She was just a little girl a little girl who didn't have a care in the world she wanted someone to play with.

"What else does your mommy do?" I asked.

Katie moved her hair from her face and she looked so cute when she did that. Her attitude was happy go lucky if only we could all be like that.

"Well she hunts for me and Mike and she plays catch, but my favorite is when she sings to me at night."

Adelyne sings? Any good?

"Oh I see" I told her.

For a moment we were silent but finally Katie spoke.

"Do you like my Mommy?"

I looked at her. That had gotten my attention, that was not a question I was exspecting her to ask.

"Yeah you're Mom is nice."

Katie walked closer to me and giggled.

"I'll tell you a secret. She hasn't kissed a boy in a really long time."

I chuckled and took her ball. For a minute Katie looked shocked, my goodness I loved this little girl. She was little ball of sunshine.

"Um..."

"Wanna play catch?" Katie asked with a smile.

*Adelyne's POV*

Rick came up to me as I scanned the area.

"You okay sweetie?"

"Not really. I looked away for a second and Katie's gone. She's not suppose to leave my sight she knows that!"

I franctically looked for her. Rick put a hand on my shoulder stopping me.

"Okay calm down" he said.

"Rick I can't find Katie. That's my daughter I-I need to find her. She's all I have left I can't lose her" I told him tears welling up.

Rick turned me so we were face to face and Mike came up to us looking worried.

"What's going on?" he asked.

No one answered him and Rick kept his eyes on me.

"Adelyne I know you're worried just calm down. I'm sure Katie is around her somewhere she'll be okay. Take a deep breath" he told me.

I took a deep breath.

"Wait Katie is gone? She's not hurt is she?" Mike asked.

My eyes got wide and I looked at him.

"What?!" I yelled.

Rick looked at Mike and glared. If Mike was trying to help he wasn't doing a good job. What if she was lost?

"Rick what if she's bit?" I asked.

"No no she's not. No way we wouldn't know about it. We'll find her come on."

We searched for Katie and we finally found her and she was playing catch with Daryl. Rick put a hand on my shoulder and I calmed down she was okay but she was in trouble. She knew better than to leave my sight it was a rule we had and she broke it. Rick asked if I was okay and I nodded and he headed back over to Lori. I exspected Mike to follow but he didn't. He looked at Daryl and Katie with a mad look,

"What's your problem?" I asked looking at him annoyed.

"Nothing just..." his voice trailed off.

I looked at Daryl who picked up Katie and began  to spin with her and she held on laughing. I looked back at Mike and scuffed,

"Seriously? Get over it Mike. Being angry isn't going to chang anything" I told him walking over to Daryl and Katie.

It was weird I didn't exspect to see Daryl play with my kid. I didn't think he liked kids. I never seen him play with Carl or Sohpia so why Katie? I wasn't mad but it was just unusual to see. I apporached,

"Katie" I said with a raised vocie.

They stopped and Katie picked up her ball standing next to Daryl.

"What's our rule? You're not suppose to leave my sight. You know better you nearly scared me to death" I told her with my hand on my hip.

"I'm sorry my ball went and-"

"We'll talk about it. Go back and wait for me by the RV. I'll be up in a minute"

Katie nodded and walked over to the RV. I looked at Daryl,

"Thanks for playing with her and keeping and eye on her" I said to him.

"Sorry she was out of your sight. I wold've protected her if any harm came our way" he explained. 'I'll protect you and Katie I think she's a great kid."

Daryl was going to protect my daughter and me? Why? When they were playing I actually seen him smile for the first time sice we'd been at the camp.

"Well thank you. I just don't want Katie out of my sight. She's all I got ya know. But thanks again."

I went to touch his arm but pulled back and walked over to Katie.

*Daryl's POV*

I watched as Adelyne walked back to camp. That sway of her hips had me looking again just like before. But I meant what I said about protecting them and keeping them safe. I liked Adelyne a lot and Katie was great kid. Beisdes my brother they meant something to me and I didn't know why. I felt the urge to protect them. Merle would think I was crazy. He made it clear all he thought about Adeylne was she was a hot peice of ass. Until I met Adelyne I thought Merle was right girls were only good for one thing. But Adelyne was diffrent I started to walk back and I passed Mike who glared and me.

"Think this is game?" Mike asked his tone chilling.

Mike didn't scare me I wasn't afraid of nothin. And he was no way intimidating.

"Game on" I said walking away.

Aww Kaite and Daryl were playing again together. And the attraction between Adelyne and Daryl is clearly there. But will Mike get in the way? Game on.
