The next morning...

I wake up way too early, then I walk to the chasm. Nathan already sits at the chasm, right in front of me, his cornrows out of his usual ponytail.

"Hey Nathan," I mutter.

"I loved kissing you last night," he says.

"Same here."

"Can I?" Nathan asks.

"Duh!" I yell.

He presses his lips against mine once more, the kiss a bit more intense than last time. I can feel sparks flowing through my body.

After I'm done kissing him, there's a moment of silence. Not the awkward type, but the type of silence that is useful for your brain, peaceful, and wont hurt a thing. Then the sound of the running water that fills the chasm slowly fills my ears.

"Enjoying the nature now, aren't you?" Nathan asks.

"You are so freaking creepy," I joke, pushing my hair away from my face with the palm of my dirty, bruised left hand.

"You are the all-knowing and all-powerful Kat," Nathan jokes.

"Like the living and breathing version of Jeanine Matthews?" I ask playfully.

"Of course not," Nathan mutters sarcastically.

I swear, Nathan and I could have an entire conversation in sarcasm and teasing if we wanted to. That's how much we tease each other on a day to day basis. I'm a bit of a follower, whereas Nathan sits in the middle of being a leader and a follower. He takes charge whenever people need him to be, along with doing what everyone else wants to do. I can kind of sense it about him.

I'm more of a Gene in a Gene/Finny situation, I don't know myself.

"You are such a follower, Kat. It's like you are being baptized in the middle of nowhere and someone says, "Kat follow the yellow brick road." After that, you will never find the yellow brick road because you are always following other people." Nathan says, out of the blue.

"You are the devil." I mumble.

"The devil of your dreams," Nathan says happily, smiling, releasing his grip on his shoulder and laying his arms by his side.

"Oh my god."

The breakfast bell rings and we rush in line behind the other initiates, looking like complete imbeciles.
