Chapter 17
Watching Sage and Daniel fight is just plain scarring. Seeing Sage attempt and kick Daniel, but then Daniel pushing Sage down to the ground, Sage punching Daniel until he falls, and so many other fighting techniques. Dauntless is one of the scariest things I've ever witnessed. Seeing bloody humans attack each other just hurts me. If one of the girls in beginner gets pregnant, then another girl might murder the fetus. Daniel crushes Sage into the ground but Sage jams his foot into Daniel's nose. Daniel is kicked to the ground and he doesn't move.
"GO SAGE!" I roar.
Sage can barely walk and he limps towards me and Nathan. He high-fives me.
"Good job, Sage," I say.
"Thank you. You too, Nathan and Matt. Kat, your fight is coming up. Good luck to Kat!"
We all pat his left shoulder while Sage pats mine and Nathan's. Sage and Matt are still a bit tense. Matt pats Sage's shoulder with a warm smile on his face.
"Good luck, Kat," Nathan says.
"Good luck!" Sage and Matt say at the same time, resulting in me laughing as hard as I can.
"KAT AND ANDREW!" Four roars.
I take my last gulp of coffee when Nathan, Matt, and Sage pat my shoulder.
"Good luck, Stiff," Uriah says.
"Good luck, Dauntless Cake."
"I don't need it."
"That the fight doesn't last twenty minutes? Yes you do."
"You're right. Good luck anyway, Stiff," Uriah says kindly.
I nod and jog to the fighting rink. I see Andrew clenching his muscles. Andrew runs towards me. I run between his legs. He runs towards me and I run away.
"Stop playing with each other," Eric scolds.
Andrew and I stare blankly at each other for a few minutes. It hurts to stare for too long. I feel a punch in my face but then I kick him in the crotch. Andrew stays standing like I did with his punch. He punches but wildly misses and I do the same.
"I told you to fight!" Eric roars.
I leap towards Andrew, pushing him to the ground, blocking all his punches. He pushes me to the side and I do a flip in the air. When I do that flip, I end up kicking him in the face.
Andrew backfires and flips me over. He badly bruised my wrist and I feel blood pouring down my face. I squirm and wiggle, making Andrew's arms slightly bruise and lose its grip. I run under his legs again, ticking him off. Andrew sits on my head, with me squirming as an effect. He sprained my left ankle, because I can no longer move it. Uriah and Four stare at me.
"End it, Kat," I hear Uriah say sternly.
Eric takes him out into the hallway.
"GO KAT!" Sage screams.
I smile as I push Andrew down to the ground. He moves, unresponsive. Four nods in confusion. I hobble over towards Sage and Matt.
"Where's Nathan?" I ask.
Sage shrugs. "Don't know, don't care."
Now, I have one. Victory is mine.
