Chapter 15
I wake up to ringing bells.
"FIGHTS!" Eric yells.
Even more fights to come. About half of us are covered in bandages while the other half lays there without a scratch. It's weird. It's crazy. I have absolutely no clue how this happened. Most of the girls were utterly clueless and knew absolutely nothing about everything. Dauntless members are so stupid it makes me want to kill myself.
"Are Nathan and Brad going to get into another hour-long fight?" Jo asks in confusion, stuffing her face with powder doughnuts.
"That," Eric says, nudging Jo in the shoulder, "Is the best example of how you should eat here."
"HEY!" Jo exclaims, punching Eric in the face.
Eric starts to high five Jo, but then Jo declines and says, "You're too smelly."
Everybody is crying laughing in the girl's cabin. Eric instantly scowls at Jo and punches her in the shoulder.
"That was totally uncalled for," Becky mutters.
Eric walks out of the cabin with too much self esteem with his head up high, and his shoulders way too far back so it could hit one of us initiates. His confidence drives me nuts; he's even more confident than Four. Four is confident and sharp but Eric's just plain arrogant. He is covered in tattoos from head to toe.
We all get dressed and ready, then I bolt out of the cabin. I'm heading over to the training room. Sage hands me a coffee.
"Get some breakfast, Kat, you look anorexic," Sage says.
"Don't need it," I reply.
"There are more fights," Sage protests with his puppy dog eyes.
"Fine," I comply and we walk over to the cafeteria.
Uriah walks up to me. "Haven't seen you or Nathan here in a while? Is Nathan here?"
"Haven't seen him," I reply.
"I'll go get him," Uriah says calmly as he walks out of the room.
I sit at a table with Sage, Daniel, and a few other initiates; they are mostly Dauntless-born with a few Erudite transfers.
Sage started piling my plate with random floods and gave me cups of coffee. "Finish it all."
"Are you kidding me?! Sage!" I exclaim in shock.
"Come on, Kat. You look anorexic," Sage mutters under his breath.
"I eat enough," I mutter self-consciously, twirling my hair with my pointer finger.
"You sure?" Daniel asks in shock, "That's probably why you lost. You need to fatten up."
I roll my eyes at him. "Sure."
"Sure isn't exactly a logical word-," Sage starts.
"Shut up," I reply.
"That's a Candor comeback," Abel snaps while he high-fived Sage.
I take a sip of coffee. The acrid fumes are trickling into my nose, and making my nose burn.
"Erudite put milk in it but Dauntless are required to drink it black," Sage says, "It doesn't taste very good but drink up."
"How'd you win the fight, Abel?" I ask with curiosity.
"Easy, aim for the crotch," he replies automatically, "We're all guys and that's their most sensitive spot."
"Tickle them, that's what Zeke told me," Sage proudly announced.
"Seriously? That would be your advice to a new fighter?" I ask, scratching my head.
"DO NOT MAKE THE FIGHT LAST TOO LONG," Uriah commands as he walks back into the room, with Nathan and Matt eating bagels.
"Where were you?" Sage asks Matt.
Matt shrugs while Nathan says, "Not here."
He and Uriah take the seats around us. Uriah throws a bagel at Nathan's face. "Actually eat your food."
"Tell that to Kat, too," Sage murmurs.
"Oh my.... Uriah did you tell Kat to drink a pool full of coffee?" Nathan asks weirdly, "Only drink 6 cups, not 12!"
"It was Sage, that coffee addict," I announce.
"You call me a coffee addict?! Look at Abel!" Sage yells, as I look at Abel, drinking 1000 cups of coffee.
Nathan takes a small bite of his bagel.
"Do I have to feed you?" I ask.
"Please don't, just not very hungry," Nathan says softly, while drinking a bucket full of coffee.
"Hypocrite," Sage murmurs in Nathan's direction.
Nathan takes his hand, and shoves it in Sage's face. "Such a wise idea, huh?"
Sage stares at Nathan and responds with an eye roll. "Yea right."
"Guys calm down, things are about to get heated in the fights after this," Abel warns.
I gobble up a few powdered sugar doughnuts.
"So you do eat?" Sage asks.
Matt and Nathan talk to each other.
"Hey guys, I say, interrupting their conversation.
"Hey," Matt says, a little uneasy about everything that's going on.
"Hey," Nathan croaks.
"Everything alright?" I ask.
"I just woke up. What did you think? Did you think I just jumped off a cliff because that's what your facial expression tells me," Nathan retorts.
I hear Jo's laugh so loudly, it sounds almost like a pig snorting. She's a pig.
The bells are ringing. Breakfast is up. I fill my coffee in a huge to-go bottle and so does everybody else. Sage and I walk together to the training room.
