Chapter 11

I do one last flip before stopping and standing still and landing on the ground right on my feet.

"YES!" I cheer and put my hand in the air.

Some of the others, including Nathan and Jo, do the same. I receive major applause and I clench my fist and raise it, high in the air.

Uriah clears his throat, "While the rest of you were pansycakes, Kat, Four, and Tris, climbed the Ferris wheel to see where the flag was. She found it. Here's the plan. Four will say the plan because I forgot already."

"Well," Four starts, "Everyone except for Kat and Becky, the petite ones. Kat and Becky, come with Tris. Uriah, and I will take the rest of y'all to be a distraction to Eric. Got it?"

They all nod while Becky and I start to walk towards Tros. I look back at Nathan, who just salutes me then laughs. Jo makes the shape of a gun with her right hand, and then she pretends to shoot me, causing us both to die of laughter. Then Becky taps my shoulder, a signal to turn back around. We continue walking towards Tris. Tris chuckles in front of us.

"Let's do this thing," she announces to us.

Becky and I high five in the air.

"Heck yea," I reply, while Becky cheers along with us but doesn't say anything,

"Let's get their flag," Tris whispers, "I did this last year, so just follow my lead."

I nod in reply, Becky just stares at Tris.

"Come on, Becky!" I exclaim, "Stop being so creepy."

Tris and Becky chuckle, causing me to laugh harder than the both of them. They just stare at me, while I plainly shrug it off. Tris crouches down to the ground, squatting for long periods of time. She moves by slightly using her feet but mainly using her hands. We follow our lead, looking externally uncomfortable as we do. Becky has a harder time crawling, because she's a couple inches taller than both me and Tris. We run squatting, and we do that over to a big stack of hay. I grab my gun and shoot Helena, while Tris shoots Jennifer. Becky shoots Daniel, but she hits his foot. That's the best place to shoot someone.

"HELP!" he screams, holding onto his foot while jumping.

Becky and Tris burst into laughter.

"I don't see how that's funny," I mutter under my breath.

Unfortunately, Tris and Becky laugh even more. Find an excuse.

"Shhh," I mumble softly, " Please stop laughing, we might be found."

Tris automatically stops, shortly to be followed by Becky. We run over to Eric.

"Go!" Tris yells.

Becky and I run to the Navy Pier. There's a rope we can hold onto that takes us to the treehouse. We run up the stairs. We find Natalia, standing there with a devious look on her face.

"Bring it on," she mutters softly, making sure we could hear.

I get in a punching position. I punch her, while she pins me to the wall. Becky drags her away from me, but then I finally shoot her with the gun and she collapses.

I smile, and so does Becky as we high-five in the air. Slowly, we walk across the tightrope. Becky turns into a sprint, but I remain slowly walking. Looking down at the ground makes my stomach plummet as the light rain sprinkles on us and the rest of the initiated.

"BEHIND YOU!" Becky roars, while I look and find Natalia.

I shoot Natalia and burst into a full sprint, looking up so I'm not very afraid.... Unfortunately, nothing works. My stomach still squirts into my kidney, without my knowing. Anyways, I reach the end of the tightrope and grasp a hold of Becky as I jump off.

She looks at me. "How brave you are."

"How brave we HAVE to be," I mutter, correcting her inspirational speech.

She just glares at me. We see the flag, shining so brightly, it's hurting our eyes. We run towards the flag. Crunch!

I see Christina, the instructor, pointing the fake gun towards my chest. I crawl under her legs and shoot her and she collapsed in pain. Becky and I both grab the flag and show it to the other initiates. The rest of Four's team cheers loudly, while Eric's team recovers from their loss.

I run down to the rest of the initiates. Jo taps my shoulder while squealing. I shake my head in disapproval. She still keeps going. URGH. It drives me crazy. I slowly walk away from her.

"Good job, Kat," Nathan mutters, causing me to jump.

"Thanks... You scared me," I reply under my breath.

He winks then he chuckles. We jump onto the train. The ride home was filled with screaming initiates who are in horrific pain. I'm still badly bruised from the fight I got into, but I'm alive. In here and I'm alive.

As soon as we arrive at the cabins, I try my best to fall asleep, but I can't. I watch the other girls sleeping soundly in the beds around me. I tip toe out of the cabin. I see Sage, lighting a friction fire near the chasm. I run over towards him.

"Hey Kat," he mutters.

"Hey Sage, how's it going?" I ask.

He shrugs. "Everyone's getting hurt left and right. No logical person argues their way out of dangerous situations."

"I know what you mean," I mutter, "I'm Abnegation, we were never allowed to fight... Ever."

Sage looks at me. "How was Abnegation? My mom came from there."

"Well, everyone does everything for a reason," I mutter, "but I don't agree with anything."

He chuckles softly to himself. "In Erudite, things happen. My parents have officially disowned me, but now I'm swallowed by the traps of Dauntless."

I stand in shock, but then I simply shrug it off. "I am, too."

He looks at me. "Abnegation people are the nicest people in the world."

I stare at him with a devious look on my face. "No, they're not. They're all hiding something from everyone. They're not selfless. They're not kind. All they are is devious people hiding because they're cowards."

He nods understandingly. "NO!"

I just look at him and walk to the cabin with a devious look on my face. As soon as I arrive, I jump into bed.

"Goodnight, Tobias," I whisper.

Then, I fall into a deep sleep.
