Freed: Return and Capture
Chapter 9: Return and Capture
The sun dipped low behind Avalonia’s distant hills, casting a golden glow across the kingdom as Cedric, Ryker, Seth, Jasper, and the other heroes approached the castle. Birds took flight at their approach, and the air seemed to hum with tension—the calm before the storm.
Ryker, still adjusting to the weight of responsibility, walked beside Cedric, his golden eyes scanning the walls and towers for threats. “Are you sure Nova and the others are safe?” he asked quietly.
Cedric’s jaw tightened. “I hope so. Callista is with her mother and the princesses. But Gideon is clever… too clever. We have to be ready for anything.”
The gates loomed ahead, eerily quiet. Then a sudden flash of light erupted from the highest tower, signaling an alarm—Gideon knew they were coming.
Seth growled. “He’s expecting us.”
Before anyone could react, a group of Gideon’s villains appeared from the shadows: Odile, Ursula, and a cadre of malicious enforcers. They moved with deadly precision, cutting off the heroes’ path.
Cedric stepped forward, hands crackling with magic. “Ryker! Get the others through the side corridors!”
Ryker hesitated, but Seth grabbed his shoulder. “Go! Now! We’ll hold them off!”
With a roar, the heroes engaged, spells, claws, and swords clashing against dark magic. The corridors echoed with shouts and cries of defiance.
In the chaos, Odile struck with a focused spell, ensnaring Cedric in glowing chains of dark magic. He struggled, fire and energy flaring around him, but the bonds held.
“Cedric!” Ryker shouted, trying to break free of the enforcers.
“You go! Protect Avalonia!” Cedric yelled back, voice strained. “I… I’ll find my way out!”
Seth lunged at Odile, claws and fangs flashing, but she was already gone, slipping through shadows with her captive. Jasper and Pandora tried to intervene, but the villains’ numbers overwhelmed them.
Ryker, eyes blazing with fury and fear, realized the truth: Cedric was captured, and Avalonia’s fate—and Nova’s safety—depended on them acting fast.
“Everyone, regroup!” Ryker barked, finding his courage. “We cannot let Gideon win. Cedric needs us. Nova needs us. Avalonia needs us!”
As the heroes regrouped, they saw the gates swinging shut behind Cedric, Gideon’s laughter echoing through the castle. The final confrontation was about to begin, and the heroes would need every ounce of courage, magic, and cunning to save their friends and their kingdom.
