I see a lot of advice that's like 'oh just sprinkle in the descriptions here and there so it feels natural'

No

I absolutely love full descriptions in one paragraph because

1. As an artist I only want to flip to a single page to get some fanart done, thank you

2. I want to imagine the character the way you want me to, if you don't tell me upfront what they look like I'll fill in the gaps myself and refuse information thrown at me later. Unless it's significant that it needs to be introduced later, I want it now

3. You can still remind me of their features later on, because I may forget them, but now they're reinforcing the character ALREADY in my mind rather than slowly and painfully materializing them

So yeah that's why I am perfectly OK with infodumps on character appearance thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
