Prologue
Sixteen years ago...
It was everything, yet it was nothing.
It could not remember what it was , but it remembered it's enemies.
The Azkiar. The supposed protectors of the universe, the masters of the shadows. The keepers of the Iriko, the hidden dreamworld.
What a miserable thing to believe in.
Once, it had been the most powerful being in existence. It had controlled everything and ruled as it pleased. The universe had been living in the fear that fed it. But a small group of beings decided that the universe should be "free", another term that held no meaning to it. They had fought and succeeded, but what they didn't know was that it couldn't be killed. It had been simply unconscious for a few million years, and now it was returning to finish the battle.
As it woke, it called to it's servants and saw their memories of all the events that passed while it slept. One event in particular interested it. A prophecy had been delivered. One that foretold it's defeat.
And it was to be delivered by humans, no less. When it had ruled, they had been nothing more than savage beasts. The memories showed that little had changed.
Sending a thread of it's being to their planet, a rumble of thunderous laughter went through it's mind as it gazed at the pitiful little world the humans called Earth.
It would be a wonderful opportunity to test it's newly awakened power...
Sirens blared through the night as crowds flooded from houses and ran, screaming and shouting to the landing ports. Shuttles filled and left, people swarming every where, desperate to escape the unknown danger. A low, rumbling alarm filled the air as a mechanical voice repeated the same message:"This is a planetary emergency. Please report to designated evacuation shuttles. Evacuation is in order. Please proceed in an orderly fashion to shuttle bays or private platforms."
Fights broke out as seats were filled. Children were handed off to strangers already seated as parents sacrificed themselves. Possessions were forcibly left behind to make room. Radio frequencies were crowded over with reports, situation analysis, and last calls to loved ones elsewhere. Head-on collisions occurred between squad fighters and personal yachts belonging to desperate rich families ignoring control.
The scene played all around Earth, in every city. Ships fled the planet, appearing in streams and convoys as Earth started to break apart near the place that used to be called North America. Humanity was now homeless.
