Chapter 2
Centuries passed, and in a hidden room in Hogwarts, Colette of Camelot finally opened her eyes. She slowly sat up looking around the place, everything was the same. Over by the window was the crystal ball. The girl put her feet on the ground, she fell over. After gaining her balance and help from objects, she walked over to the ball, placing her hands on it.
"I would like to see Britta Hufflepuff," Colette requested the crystal ball started to glow, but the images only showed a field. "That's strange...I would like to see Merlin." This time it just showed the forest of Brocéliande. Colette then went over to the magic mirror. "Can you please show me Camelot?" Her reflection soon got replaced with her home. Colette stepped through the mirror, everything was back to normal she began to smile. "Excuse me!" No one looked at her, Colette went to go gently touch someone on the shoulder just for her hand to go right through. "No." She ran over to another, and the same thing happened.
Colette ran all the way to Camelot's castle, once she got inside, she went to see King Arthur's office to see him looking down at the people below. "Your majesty." But he did not look at her or even seemed to have heard her. "Your majesty." Colette went over to tap, but her hand when right through him.
"The mirror can allow you to step back in time," Britta's voice echoed in her head. "It'd be as if you are in a memory."
"No, no, no," Colette rambled as she left Camelot, she stepped back out of the mirror and turned to it. "I would like to see present-day Camelot." Instead of seeing the villages, all Colette saw were ruins and grass where shops were located. The castle was no longer there, only bits and pieces remained. Colette looked back at the room, Camelot's coats of arms hung on the walls, she then stepped through the mirror. The air had changed, and she walked over to the remaining stone and crouched down. She felt around, even the dirt and grass felt different. She looked around to see new trees, but a lot was missing. She heard a beeping sound and jumped, in the distance, she saw two strange vehicles passing by each other. In fear, Colette went back into the room.
Colette grabbed a hold of the sword of Camelot, slipping the dagger into bag on her belt lop. Colette slowly made her way to the door and opened it with caution. She quickly picked up on the changes in the school, more portraits, and ghosts. She heard voices coming from the section of the Great Hall and slowly started to make her way there.
"I should get the baron to get you kids in line," a voice snarled, Colette looked back to see a mean man, a cat was down by his feet. He was dressed a lot different than her.
"Oh, the Baron is here?" Colette asked. "May I speak with him?" The man looked at her strangely, eyes fell on the sword. "Please, sir, I would be most grateful."
"You want to see the Bloody Baron?" the man asked. "That is an unusual quest from a student, why do you have a sword."
"It was put with me for safe keeping," Colette answered. "King Arthur said it could be mine one day once the curse was broken."
"King Arthur!" the man cackled. "You are mad, King Arthur is nothing but a myth."
"He is not!" Colette argued. "Where is the baron?"
"Find him on your own," the man sneered before walking off. "I will be talking to the headmaster about your detention." Colette looked back to see that the door to her room had not disappeared before making her way towards the Great Hall. A couple of students passed her, giving her strange looks. She looked out the window she passed to see that the sun was almost set, she could see how different it was, along with being able to tell how cold it was out. She continued on her way to the Great Hall, the doors were closed, she stared up at them, she was about to open the doors when a ghost fell threw and to her surprise, it was the Baron.
"Sir Baron?" Colette asked, the man seemed irritated as he stopped moving. She saw that there were shackles on him, evidence of blood. "Can you please tell me why Camelot is no longer standing?
"Camelot? " the baron asked, he looked back, and silence filled the air. "My lady?" He seemed lost for words. "Colette, my lady...you've been asleep for centuries...Camelot had fallen long ago."
"It fell? What of the knights of--" Colette began.
"Your majesty had his flaws," Baron answered. "Killed by his son Mordred." Colette tilted her head. "A son he shared with Morgan Le Fay. Instead of raising the boy, Arthur wanted to kill him, and committed heinous crimes to cover his tracks, in return Mordred had taken his revenge, both had died in the process."
"And Camelot?" Colette asked.
"Fell after the Battle of Camlann," the Baron answered. "Before you ask any more questions, you are to go speak to the headmaster." He stayed in his spot as Colette turned to the door, she gently pulled it open, tons of students inside, and she recognized none of the staff. After a few seconds of thought, Colette made her way into the room, she felt people's eyes land on her, people were appalled. The room slowly grew quiet as the stranger went up to the front. Soon the staff had grabbed her attention.
The headmaster stood up. "Do not walk no further." Colette stopped walking. "My name is Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts." He walked up to his podium, as people watched.
"Albus," a woman in green whispered.
"Dumbledore knows what he is doing," a man with greasy hair stated. "We have had training on this if a muggle were to walk in here."
"I apologize, sir," Colette spoke up. "But I am no muggle."
"Not a muggle?" the man asked in a very monotone voice. Colette looked back to see the Bloody Baron back in the room, he nodded at her. Her eyes caught another ghost, staring intensely back at her...Helena Ravenclaw. "Then who are you?"
"Sir Baron has told me that it has been centuries," Colette began. "I am Colette of Camelot." Whispers filled the air.
"Confundus charm?" a short man asked.
"Must be," the greasy hair man agreed.
"Please believe me," Colette requested. "I have this." She held up a sword. "Locked away---"
"She's Princess Colette!" a voice squealed. Colette looked back at the Gryffindor table, a girl with busy hair and a boy with round glasses had their hands on a ginger boy's mouth,
"Princess?" Colette asked.
"May I see the sword?" Dumbledore asked.
"Of course," Colette answered as she looked at him. She walked up carefully handing him the sword. He observed, took out his wand, going all around it.
"Headmaster!" a man shouted as he ran into the hall.
"Mr. Filch," Dumbledore greeted. "What seems to be the matter?"
"You'll want to see this," Filch answered. "First time seeing a room like this." His eyes landed on Colette. "This was your doing wasn't it?"
"Professor Snape, Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and Professor Pomfrey come with me, the rest stay here." He turned to Colette. "Please come with us."
Colette was making her way back up to the room, Dumbledore still had her sword.
"Pardon me," Professor Sprout began. "If you are truly who you say you are, can you tell me about Helga Hufflepuff?"
"My grandma teased me for being worried about not getting into Hufflepuff," Colette answered with a small smile. "She let me be a taste tester to some of her recipes. Mum accused her of trying to puff me up." Colette closed her eyes. "Britta darling, your daughter is to be taking Merlin's place at the roundtable, she needs food to help her become strong."
"What about Godric Gryffindor?" Professor McGonagall asked.
"When Professor Gryffindor spoke...everyone was drawn to listen even if you didn't wanna pay attention in class that day. He liked to have class outside when it was nice. Broke a window a couple of times, got a bit careless practicing his sword swing as he taught."
"Here we are headmaster," Filch said as they stopped walking. "Came across it after meeting her." He glared at Colette before opening the door, everyone stepped inside.
"Professor Filch, do you have the book?" Dumbledore asked as they observed the room.
"I have it in my collection in the classroom," Professor Flitwick. "I can recite it to you, from the beginning."
"I think the headmaster wants to know the list," Professor Snape said as he stood in front of the mirror.
"Ah yes," Flitwick. "The list of items from the book of Princess Colette of Camelot."
"I am not a princess sir," Colette corrected.
"According to the story, Colette of Camelot was labeled a princess," McGonagall explained. "The people considered her one too."
"First, we have Colette's circlet," Flitwick began.
"Check," Dumbledore said as he touched Colette's head, tilting her head forward.
"Colette's wand," Flitwick said as he waved his wand, a scroll appeared with a long list of items.
"Right here," Professor Sprout said as she opened the drawer.
"Over here is the Magic Mirror and Crystal ball," Snape said as he tapped the items with his wand.
"That makes 5 out of 9," Dumbledore said. "Including the sword."
"A crown of Camelot, right by the shelf that holds a coffin," Snape said as he picked it up, with a wave of his wand, light shone. "Red gem, just like in the story." He went over to the nightstand looking at the goblet, McGonagall picked up the black box.
"Severus, your finger," McGonagall ordered, he looked at her. She opened the box, inside was a ring, she carefully picked it up, slipping it onto his pinky finger, the man turned invisible, she took it off.
"There's a weird flute," Filch pointed at it.
"Helga Hufflepuff's tea cup," Professor Sprout smiled. "There's a chip on the rim."
"Only thing missing is the dagger," Flitwick said.
"Oh," Colette said as took it out of her bag. The staff all looked at each other. "What?"
"My dear it's been centuries," Sprout began.
"Sir Baron has said the same thing to me," Colette said. "Before I left the room, I stepped out of the mirror to seem to be left of Camelot, and these strange machines came by."
"Cars," McGonagall corrected; Colette tilted her head.
"The only thing to do from here is to get her situated in the school," Dumbledore said as they began to leave the room.
"What house?" McGonagall asked.
"Hufflepuff of course," Colette answered, they looked at her. "Will I need to resort?"
"Not at all dear," Flitwick assured. "Milady, what is the last lesson you remember having?"
" Sword training with Hewett in the forest," Colette answered. "Hewett is--"
"We know who Hewett is due to the story," McGonagall interrupted. " Laws have been in place, you can no longer perform magic in front of muggles unless circumstances call for it."
"Oh," Colette breathed softly. "I will still be able to do magic outside of school?"
"In normal circumstances, students aren't allowed until they are 17," Dumbledore answered. "But in your case...I will have to discuss that with the minister."
"Minister?" Colette asked. "What is a minister?"
"The governmental branch of our wizarding community," Professor Sprout answered. "I will show you to Hufflepuff." The others all continued as Professor Pomfrey took Colette down the hall.
"What are we going to do at the end of the school year?" Snape asked. "Camelot has not stood for centuries, no family, she has nowhere to go when school ends."
"I will reach out to the families of the students," Dumbledore answered.
"Should we have her go live with a muggle-born family?" Flitwick asked.
"No, she has not adapted into the century for her to take on something like that," Dumbledore explained.
"Don't you worry dear," Professor Sprout spoke up. "We will figure something out for you."
"I do not want to cause any trouble," Colette wished.
"You won't," Professor Sprout assured. "What would you like to be called?"
"Hm?" Colette asked.
"For when called on in class," Professor Pomfrey said as they went down the hall.
"Oh, if I remember correctly my father's last name was Wyllt, but I just got called Colette, or Colette of Camelot."
"We will address you as Ms. Wyllt then," Professor Sprout said as they stopped in front of the barrels. "Do you remember?" Colette nodded, she tapped the barrels to the tune of Helga Hufflepuff, and soon they were inside. A few things remained the same but the room had also changed.
"Will I be having my items in here as well?" Colette asked.
"Having ancient magic around students can be gathered dangerous," Professor Sprout answered, Colette, answered her. "A lot of the magic you were taught is no longer taught today, it hasn't been taught here in a very long time." Colette became more down. "No need to worry dear, everything we can catch you up, I'm sure you will have no trouble." Colette nodded. "You should get some rest."
"But what about--" Colette began.
"We will lock that up for now," Professor Sprout answered. "You will have access to it of course....you've had a very long day and a lot to think about. Get some rest." With that, the woman walked out of the room. Colette felt tears rolling down her eyes, she looked up, above the fireplace was a portrait of her grandmother. The woman looked over, and her smile dropped.
"Colette," Helga greeted with a small smile. "You are awake."
"Centuries too late," Colette responded as she wiped her tears away. "I knew something was wrong when the crystal ball couldn't locate mum or dad."
"Colette," Helga began.
"Grandma," Colette sniffed. "I no longer have my family, Camelot is gone...everything I know..."
"Colette," Helga spoke again, Colette looked at her. "It is true that everything you know and love is gone, but you must not shut out on everyone because of this. The people here right now are going to do everything they can to help you, be open and accepting."
"What about mum and dad?" Colette asked.
"Your mum waited every day for you to wake up, visited you every weekend," Helga answered. "Soon died through a broken heart...Merlin, he had a hard time too, visited just as much when he wasn't trying to help Arthur...some say he drowned, others say he was killed by a student."Colette sat on a chair wiping away her tears. "They are incredibly proud of you for sacrificing yourself for Camelot, before Arthur..."
"The Baron told me about his flaws," Colette said. "He wasn't as great as I thought he was."
"Time and power can affect people and that is exactly what happened," Helga answered. "But at one point...Arthur was a great man...chosen to be King by the people." Colette grew silent. "What is it, child?"
"Are there portraits of them?" Colette asked. "Of my parents."
"Not of your mother," Helga answered. "But I'm sure that can be fixed with you and that mirror she gifted you long ago." Colette stood up. "You had just woken up, but get some rest or food before you speak to your father." Soon people started to file in, a few girls grabbed Colette and went up to a room, to her surprise some of Colette's stuff was already there.
"Are you really the princess?" a girl asked as they sat on beds.
"According to Professor McGonagall yes," Colette answered. "I wasn't a princess."
"Can you tell us about Camelot?" another girl asked. "From your memory."
Colette looked down staring at her hands. "Camelot...was home,"
"Aww," the girls cooed. Colette ended up bonding with her new roommates instead of going to visit her father's portrait. There was Susan Bones, Hannah Abbott, Megan Jones, and Leanne.
