Chapter 8: Who's Driving?

Anthony stretched, letting out a loud yawn. "Aight, I'm starving. You tryna hit that Burger King on Annapolis Road?"

Antoinette perked up. "Bet. I could destroy some fries right now."

They both stood up at the same time and immediately reached for the Chevrolet Suburban keys on the counter.

Their hands grabbed it at the exact same moment.

Both of them froze, then slowly turned their heads to glare at each other.

Anthony raised an eyebrow. "Lady, I'm driving."

Antoinette smirked. "The fuck you are."

"I got the keys first."

"We grabbed that shit at the same time, dumbass."

Anthony scoffed, holding up his wallet. "Yeah? Well, I got my wallet. Yours is probably still in your universe."

Antoinette didn't even look at him. She just tilted her head toward the table.

Anthony followed her gaze.

Both of their wallets were sitting right there.

"...Oh."

Antoinette grinned. "Yeah. Oh."

Anthony sighed. "Man, this multiverse shit is weird."

Antoinette smirked. "That's your problem. My problem is whether my clothes came through too."

She quickly walked over to the couch, rummaging through the pile of clothes next to it.

And sure enough—

Her exact set of clothes from yesterday was there.

Jeans, crop top, sneakers, jacket—everything.

Antoinette grinned. "Ayyyyy, my drip survived the multiverse jump."

Anthony narrowed his eyes. "You got way too much energy for someone who woke up in another dimension."

She shrugged. "Boiyo, I adapt."

Without hesitation, she grabbed her clothes and went back to the bathroom to change.

Anthony shook his head.

This whole situation was beyond stupid, but at least now they had some kind of normalcy.

...Or at least, as normal as it could get when you were rolling up to a Burger King with your parallel universe self.

Anthony leaned against the counter, arms crossed, waiting for Antoinette to finish changing.

He was dressed in his usual outside fit—black hoodie, jeans, and his Air Force 1s. Simple, clean, no nonsense.

When Antoinette finally stepped out of the bathroom, she was in her usual fit too—crop top, jeans, sneakers, and her jacket.

Anthony glanced at her.

Antoinette glanced at him.

Then they both looked away at the exact same time.

Because despite the outfit change, the thoughts were still there.

And they needed to stop.

Now.

Anthony cleared his throat aggressively.

Antoinette stretched her arms behind her head. "Alright, let's go."

Anthony nodded too quickly. "Yeah. Yup. Let's go. Right now."

They both grabbed their wallets and headed for the door with way too much urgency.

Because no matter how much they tried to shake the thoughts off...

Something about seeing themselves in a different body but still knowing it was them was fucking with their brains on a dangerous level.

The intrusive thoughts were winning.

And neither of them liked it.

At all.

The drive to Burger King was uneventful—aside from Anthony occasionally glancing at Antoinette out of habit, and Antoinette catching him before calling him a weirdo.

He ignored her.

Mostly.

But the real confusion started when they pulled into the parking lot.

Because right next to the Burger King... was a Burger Queen.

Anthony stared.

Antoinette barely reacted, just smacking on some gum and leaning back in her seat like this was completely normal.

Anthony slowly turned his head toward her.

She felt his gaze and lazily glanced back. "What?"

He pointed out the window. "Explain."

Antoinette shrugged. "Nigga, it's literally what it looks like."

Anthony squinted. "So, let me get this straight. In your universe... there's a Burger Queen instead of Burger King?"

She smirked. "Duh. It's the opposite world, remember?"

Anthony rubbed his temple. "So what,  is their mascot some bougie-ass lady in a crown?"

Antoinette nodded. "Yup. And instead of the creepy-ass King, she's like this hot-ass CEO chick in a business suit."

Anthony blinked. "...I need a minute."

Antoinette snorted. "Boi, it ain't that deep."

Anthony motioned toward the restaurant. "It is absolutely that deep. This means there's a whole different chain of restaurants in your universe."

Antoinette hummed, tapping her fingers on the dashboard. "Yeah, like McDonald's is McDanielle's."

Anthony nearly choked on his own breath.

"BITCH, WHAT?!"

Antoinette grinned. "Yup. Subway is Skyway. Wendy's is Wesley's."

Anthony grabbed the steering wheel like he was having a mental breakdown.

"Next thing you gon' tell me is Taco Bell is Burrito Barbara."

Antoinette giggled. "Nah, nah. It's Tortilla Tom."

Anthony slapped the dashboard. "NAH. I'M DONE!!"

Antoinette was dying laughing. "You dumb as hell," she wheezed.

Anthony exhaled, shaking his head. "Bitch, let's just get this food before I lose my mind."

Antoinette wiped a tear. "Bet."

And with that, they finally stepped out of the car, heading toward the Burger King—ignoring the Burger Queen next door, because they were not ready for that existential crisis yet.

Anthony and Antoinette walked into Burger King, both heading straight for the counter.

The smell of greasy goodness filled the air, and Anthony was already mentally crafting his order.

Behind the register, a young cashier—a regular-ass dude in his early 20s—greeted them with a nod.

"Welcome to Burger King. What can I get y'all?"

Anthony and Antoinette both spoke at the exact same time.

"Large Whopper meal, extra fries, and a Coke."

The cashier blinked.

He looked at Anthony.

Then at Antoinette.

Then back at Anthony.

"...Ayo, y'all twins or some shit?"

Anthony deadpanned. "No."

Antoinette smirked. "Yes."

The cashier squinted. "Y'all look damn near identical."

Anthony sighed. "Long story."

The cashier motioned to his coworker—a young woman working the next register.

"Yo, look at this shit," he called. "They're like us."

Anthony and Antoinette turned their heads and immediately froze.

The other cashier was a girl.

And she looked exactly like the dude at their registerjust the opposite gender.

The Multiverse was real.

Antoinette grinned wide as hell. "Nigga..."

Anthony massaged his temples. "I am so fucking tired of today."

The male cashier laughed. "Y'all came in at the right time, though. We doing a 50% off discount for customers coming in with their opposite gender."

Anthony and Antoinette slowly turned to each other.

They stared.

They processed the information.

Then, without hesitation—

They turned back to the cashier.

"Aight, so lemme get four extra Whoppers, ten nuggets, two Hershey pies, and throw in a milkshake."

Antoinette followed up. "Make that two milkshakes."

The cashier chuckled. "Damn, y'all really milking this discount."

Anthony shrugged. "Man, we gotta eat."

Antoinette nodded. "We don't waste opportunities."

The dude rang up their order, shaking his head.

"This gotta be the funniest discount we ever did."

Anthony and Antoinette grinned.

Because scamming the system had never felt this easy.
