Chapter 7: Clothes, Complaints, and Shared Trauma
Antony was scrolling through Discord, keeping up with the absolute madness happening online.
The entire world was losing its collective shit over the Great Gender Swap Catastrophe, and every server he was in was filled with people posting pics, theories, and memes.
ShadowPhoenix: Bro, my female self is literally raiding my wardrobe like she owns the place.
EclipseGod: WHY DO NONE OF MY CLOTHES FIT THIS NIGGA?!
MizukiChan: Male me is too damn tall for my hoodies, and I hate it.
KnightlyPen: My opposite self is wearing my shit and saying it's "not stylish enough." Bitch, IT'S MY CLOTHES.
Anthony shook his head, smirking.
Good to know he wasn't alone.
Then, his bathroom door swung open.
A very damp, very irritated Antoinette stepped out, wrapped in his towel.
"Boi."
Anthony glanced up. "What?"
Antoinette frowned, arms crossed. "None of your clothes fit me."
He raised an eyebrow. "No shit, they're MY clothes."
She groaned. "Nigga, I can't be walkin' around in just a towel!"
Anthony leaned back, smirking. "That sounds like a you problem."
Antoinette glared. "I am literally you, dumbass."
He shrugged. "Then you should've planned ahead, dumbass."
Antoinette let out a frustrated groan and ran a hand through her wet dreadlocks.
"Bruh. I need something to wear."
Anthony rolled his eyes and stood up. "Aight, let's see what we got."
Five Minutes Later...
Antoinette stood in his bedroom, staring at the pile of clothes he handed her.
A black oversized hoodie, a pair of sweatpants, and some basketball shorts.
She picked up the shorts, inspecting them. "The fuck is this?"
"Backup."
"For what?"
"In case the sweatpants sag on you."
Antoinette scoffed. "Man, I am built thick, I ain't saggin' shit."
Anthony gave her a side-eye. "Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of."
She snickered. "Nigga, you scared?"
"More like mentally preparing."
Antoinette grinned, shaking her head. "Man, shut up. Turn around, I'm changin'."
Anthony immediately turned around.
"See? Unlike you, I have respect," he said smugly.
Antoinette rolled her eyes. "Boi, you grabbed my tit like a PS5 controller an hour ago."
Anthony clenched his fist. "WE AGREED NOT TO TALK ABOUT THAT!"
Anthony sat on the couch, arms crossed, watching Antoinette fidget with the strings on the hoodie he gave her.
It actually fit her decently, though it was slightly looser around the shoulders—which made sense. But the sweatpants? They weren't even tied all the way, yet somehow, they hugged her curves perfectly.
Anthony looked away before his brain went places it shouldn't.
Instead, he decided to bring up something else.
Something that had been itching at his mind ever since they realized their lives were nearly identical.
"Yo."
Antoinette looked up. "What?"
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.
"Tell me about your ex."
Antoinette's face immediately soured.
Anthony smirked. "Yeah. Thought so."
She groaned, pulling the hood over her head. "Nigga, why you bringing up past trauma?"
"Because," Anthony said, "if our lives are mirrored, then that means your ex did the same shit my ex did."
Antoinette let out a sharp exhale. "So, what—your ex cheated on you with a triflin' ass hood nigga?"
Anthony nodded. "Yup. Hood nigga for me, hood bitch for you."
Antoinette rolled her eyes. "Figures. My dumbass really thought he was different."
Anthony chuckled bitterly. "We always do."
Antoinette rested her chin in her hand. "How long were y'all together?"
"Four years," Anthony muttered.
She winced. "Shit. Same."
Silence.
A mutual moment of reflection passed between them.
Then, Antoinette scoffed. "You ever had that moment? Like when you realized shit wasn't adding up?"
Anthony gritted his teeth. "Oh yeah. That gut feeling when something was off?"
"Yup."
"When she stopped texting first?"
"When he got real secretive with his phone?"
"When she started saying she was too busy to hang out?"
"When he suddenly needed 'space' for no reason?"
Anthony sighed, rubbing his temple. "Yeah. That moment."
Antoinette shook her head. "That shit still pisses me off."
Anthony gave her a deadpan look. "Oh, we absolutely catching these niggas lackin' if we ever get the chance."
She smirked. "Damn right."
Silence.
Then—
"Wait."
Antoinette and Anthony slowly turned their heads toward each other.
They squinted.
"...You ever wonder if they got swapped too?"
The room went dead quiet.
Anthony and Antoinette stared at each other, both clearly thinking the same devious-ass thought.
A slow, evil grin spread across Antoinette's face. "Tony."
Anthony smirked. "We could fuck their whole existence up."
Both of them leaned back, grinning.
Because if their cheating-ass exes were also going through the Great Gender Swap Catastrophe?
They were about to have the worst time of their lives.
Anthony leaned back on the couch, arms crossed, watching Antoinette flip through her phone like she wasn't in an alternate reality.
They had already covered ex drama—which was satisfying but also annoying as hell to relive.
Now, he wanted to know something else.
"Alright," he said, "let's compare notes. Your life vs. mine."
Antoinette looked up, raising an eyebrow. "Nigga, we literally the same person."
"Yeah, but things gotta be different somewhere." He gestured toward her. "Like, how was your childhood? Same bullshit or nah?"
Antoinette hummed, resting her chin in her palm. "Born and raised in Trinidad till I was seven, moved to the States after my mom got a better job. You?"
"Same. Moved to Maryland, New Carrollton, specifically."
Antoinette pointed at him. "See? That's where we different. My family moved to Baltimore."
Anthony immediately made a face. "Damn. RIP."
Antoinette laughed. "You ain't wrong, man. That place was ratchet as fuck growing up."
Anthony nodded. "New Carrollton wasn't much better, but at least it wasn't Baltimore."
Antoinette shook her head, grinning. "Alright, what about school? You was a nerd, jock, or what?"
Anthony smirked. "Nerd. But not 'shy' nerd. More like 'I will flame your ass in the middle of class' nerd."
Antoinette snapped her fingers. "Same."
Anthony chuckled. "Aight, aight, let's really see how different we are." He grabbed his phone. "Middle school pics. You got any?"
Antoinette's grin vanished instantly.
"Why the fuck would I still have those?"
Anthony laughed. "Oh, so you HIDING? That means they BAD."
Antoinette groaned. "Tony, we both know middle school was the ugliest fucking era. We all looked like unpaid extras from a low-budget TV show."
Anthony nodded sagely. "True. But we gotta compare. For science."
Antoinette sighed dramatically but started scrolling. "Fine. You show me yours, I'll show you mine."
Anthony smirked. "Pause."
"Shut up, bitch."
They spent the next five minutes digging through their old photos.
And when they finally found them?
Immediate regret.
Anthony looked at his middle school pic and cringed violently.
Antoinette looked at hers and physically recoiled.
They swapped phones.
Stared.
And then—
They burst out laughing.
"NIGGA, WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT HAIRCUT?!"
"WHY THE FUCK MY TEETH SO BIG?!"
Anthony wheeze-laughed, slapping his knee. "Bro, we was BOTH ugly as shit!"
Antoinette was crying. "LOOK AT US, NIGGA! WE LOOKED LIKE STRUGGLE INCARNATE!"
Anthony pointed at her middle school pic. "Why your edges look like they was fighting for their lives?"
Antoinette gasped, clutching her chest. "BITCH."
They spent the next ten minutes roasting themselves so hard that their stomachs hurt from laughing.
When they finally calmed down, Anthony wiped a tear from his eye.
"Aight, high school. Show me the glow-up."
Antoinette smirked, flipping through her phone. "Nigga, you ain't ready."
They swapped phones again.
This time?
They both nodded in approval.
"Aight. We did alright."
"Damn right."
Because even though their middle school phase was straight-up tragic, by the time high school hit, they had both figured shit out.
The glow-up was real.
Anthony smirked. "We was some good-looking motherfuckers."
Antoinette nodded. "Still are."
They both grinned at each other.
Because if there was one thing they could agree on—
They looked good as hell.
