Chapter 1

Death

Kellen rushed through the woods, holding onto Kendall's hand tightly.

He didn't stop as Kendall fell to the ground, screaming in pain as she held her arm. Blood started streaming down her elbow as Kellen fell to the ground with her. He reached for his backpack, but it fell into a deep hole. 

The monster was too close. 

"Kellen, listen to me," Kendall said, her eyes puffed wide open like an eagle chasing for its food. "You need to get out of here before it's too late."

Kellen stared for a second, then spoke. "I am not leaving you. You are my best friend, and it will continue for the rest of our lives. This is not the end-"

"But it is Kellen. It is for me. You need to survive. If not for yourself, do it for me."

Kellen looked into her eyes with disbelief. "Okay, but Kendall?"

"What?" 

"I love you."

Kendall smiled but it fainted fast. Kellen turned to the monster with long sharp nails, vampire-like teeth, slimy skin and flesh, and red eyes. It was glaring right at him. He stood up from his feet and kicked it in the face. It fell to the ground and Kellen's feet paced faster than a cheetah. 

He ran and ran and didn't stop. 

He rushed to the gate and jumped over it. He looked back and saw the monster staring directly at him. Kellen backed up as many trick or treaters watched it waiting to feast on Kellen's flesh and blood. Then, the monster growled and turned around, running back into the forest where it would never be seen again.
