Chapter two

Daniel's POV

Driving back from work, he parked in his usual spot getting out, locking his car without looking back. Entering the small house, his daughter comes running towards him. "Daddy!" she ran into his arms. "Hey, sweetie." Maya comes from the kitchen drying her hands with a dish towel, smiling. Kneeling down on one knee, she sat on his lap. "How was school?"

"Good."

Lily stood up and walked back to the couch. Maya came over and kissed him. "Eww!" their daughter said disgusted. "One day, you may just be kissing boys." Maya joked. "Not on my terf, he better be a good man." Daniel checked. "Don't worry daddy, I won't."

"Good girl."

Lily turned back to the tv paying attention to the cartoons on Nickelodeon. "Oh yes, before I forget, you have some mail."

"Okay, thanks." he will look at it later. "Smells good."

"Yeah, I've been cooking supper. I couldn't wait any longer."

"It's fine. You do what your heart desires."

Maya giggled. The oven dinged, Maya putting her oven mitts on and grasping the hot, delicious lasagna. He came up from behind, resting his head against hers. "And it makes this better because you made it."

"Thanks." kissing again. Splitting apart, he grabbed a massive knife and started cutting into it. Maya put her hands on the side of the glass, holding it down. He set his left hand on that glove, as the other one cut into the fresh, hot lasagna. The gooey cheese breaking apart. Cutting two pieces, plus a small piece, Maya gets Lily to the kitchen table when he gets the food ready. Sitting at the table eating, Maya and Daniel talked about adult things. Lily sat quietly, listening to the conversation that her parents are having. After a great meal, Daniel and Maya washed and dried the dishes. Lily went back to watching tv.

His mind jumps to the mail. Never receiving mail before, something about the mail gave him shivers. After the dishes, Daniel went to the counter and searched through for his mail. One envelope stood out, he picked it up and stared at it. His name scrolled across the back of the envelope. Daniel went to his office to read it for silence. Turning it over, he pried it open. Reading it very carefully, each and every word observed.

Dear Daniel Copperstone,

You are proudly chosen to participate in the games. On Tuesday May fist to the fifteenth, you will be playing these games, murder games. At nine am at Whiterock Middle School. In those two weeks, you are to survive the whole event to move on with your life. If you get caught by the killer, you are gone. The winners are the ones who survive, will not be bothered and will live on. There will be more details of the day. So pack your things as you will be spending the whole two weeks. Good luck, and thanks for your participation.

From,

The Game Master.

The shock raced through his body. Adrenaline racing through his body. His mouth dropped. He's going to live through the nightmare again. This time going to Whiterock instead of Woodhaven. A new killer and new people. A forty one year old going to this probably with a bunch of teens. At that moment, Lily entered the room. "Daddy?"

He jumped. "Yes?" Looking at her.

"Can you help me with homework?"

"Sure."

She came in with a pencil and a worksheet. Lily takes a chair and sits beside her loving father. He explained the math that she didn't understand, giving her examples and all the stuff that will help her understand, until she spots the letter that's hidden under her work.

"What does that letter say?" Lily asked, pointing to the letter.

"Well . . . I received a letter to go to this . . . event. Now, I will be gone for two weeks, from May 1st to May fifteenth. I may be gone longer."

"Will I be able to come with you?"

"No, this event is not for you."

Just then, Maya stood in the doorway, leaning against the doorframe arms crossed over her chest. "It's happening again?"

"Yes, and sadly I'm part of it."

"When do you have to leave?"

"This Tuesday, until the fifteenth. But I may not come out. I lived the first one, but would I live the second? I don't know."

"You were the killer last time."

"I know. But I doubt I am this round."

"Will I get to see you, daddy?"

"I doubt it."

"Okay, I think that's enough talking about this subject. It's time for bed." she said.

"Aww. Please can I stay up a bit more?"

Maya shook her head. "Did you finish your homework?"

"Yes."

"Okay, get ready for bed, then daddy and I will come to tuck you in." Lily got up from the chair and went to get ready for bed. Maya walked over, sitting in the chair Lily sat in, scanning the letter. Tears filled her eyes quickly. "I don't want you to go."

"I have to." stroking her back to calm her down. "I don't want you to die."

"I know." she turned to him hugging him tight.

"It's going to be okay. I never got caught when I went on a killing spree. You never know."

"I know . . . but that was then, this is now." Looking into her tearful eyes made him upset. It made him uncomfortable. Knowing he could die, leaving everything behind him. Daniel doesn't have a choice, leaving his wife and eight year old daughter because he died. It's a fatal risk he is willing to take.
