Chapter twenty two

Makayla's POV

Waking up the next morning, I get up slowly, admiring the sunlight shining through the blinds. Getting up and opening all four of them, the sun shines bright inside letting all the light it has entered the room.

Pulling out clothes from my suitcase, I strip out of mine to put on clean and new ones. Walking down the hallway, Kyra emerges from her room, tired. She still has her pyjamas, her hair all knotted. She patted it down so it doesn't look as bad. Heading my way, Kyra gives me a goodmorning smile then enters the washroom. There she goes to the washroom and does what she needs to do. I keep on walking to the food lab where we adults meet. Once I entered the green pod, everyone surrounded the first room. I walk over to Daniel and Autumn and ask them what's going on.

"Jack died last night. The killer sliced him open, and tied him to the table . . . or the other way around." Autumn replied with a disgusted face. I look at the lifeless body on the table. Although this isn't related to one of the killings back then, but I remember Evan and Andrew hanging by ropes in the music room, and Kylo Made a terrible hanging joke.

-

I stopped by the music room to see if Evan or Andrew had died. Yes they have. They were hanging from the ceiling with their bodies cut open. There was a puddle of blood underneath them and blood dripping from their bodies. It scares me to think that the murderer that I saw last night must have done this. Although he was wearing all black, I could make out a few blood stains on his hoodie.

"Hey."

I jumped and looked to see who it was. Kylo.

"Um... hi."

"I see that the murder struct two people last night and left behind a massive mess."

"Yep. I guess he did."

"Did you hear any screaming last night, because I know I didn't."

"No I didn't."

"Not talking much, huh?"

"Yes I guess I'm not."

Kylo was is so calm about this, yet the expression on his face makes me suspicious.

"Anyways, want some breakfast? It's on me."

"Thanks, but I've already eaten."

"Ahh."

We stood there for about ten minutes looking at Evan's and Andrew s bodies, just hanging there.

"I wonder why they're just hanging around."

"Haha very funny, Kylo." I say sarcastically.

"Hahaha. Come on that was a very funny joke."

"Alright. I'll admit it was funny." I say smiling.

-

I still have the joke in my head that he told me many years ago. "Many years ago, I found Evan and Andrew's body hanging in the music room. It was a terrifying scene. Kylo came and made a bad hanging joke about it. 'I wonder why they're just hanging around.' It was awful timing but it was funny. I know this is not related to this, but . . . I just want to remember that day."

"I was there afterwards when everyone was gathering around them. Still gives me shivers to this day."

Ethan came up to us to stand away from the body as much as possible. "Poor kid." Ethan said with a sad tone. "I know." Daniel replied. "I guess we better get the blanket and wrap him up." Daniel and Ethan went away to fetch the blanket. Most people left the food room. We all let the men take care of the bodies. Sitting with our own groups, no one ate only drink water or milk, or anything else they could find. Ethan and Daniel came back twenty minutes later from walking out the body.

The corpse.

Sitting with us, we had a discussion that no other person would have.

"Alright, we need to set these deaths straight." Ethan suggested. "The male deaths are pretty much violent and horrible while the female deaths aren't as bad. I'm no detective but I think that the killer has a soft spot when it comes to females."

"Why, though? Why would the killer be aggressive for males, but soft and gentle, yet still violent on females?" I asked.

"I don't know." Daniel replied. "But for one thing that I know about killing, is that when it comes to the killer, their reaction will be different from the rest. Same with their actions."

"You were a killer?" Autumn asked.

"Yeah, at Woodhaven. Around the same time yours was, we just started a few days early. Still the same amount of time." Daniel explained. "So what we have to do is keep an eye on the kids and see who is the killer or not?" Autumn exclaimed. "That's right."

"I never showed any sign of a killer, everyone thought it was either Makayla or Kylo." Ethan exclaimed. "I know, you snuck from behind. I did believe it was Kylo for for a while."

"I know, it did seem like that." I took a sip of water to hydrate my throat.

"So what you're saying is that someone who has a different expression is the killer?" I ask just to be sure that's what Daniel is saying. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying," he now spoke in a hushed voice, "he or she will scan the room to see others' reactions and try to copy so he or she won't stand out. I don't know how you did it, Ethan but I did the facial expressions to look like I'm surprised."

"Like I said, no one suspected me it was either Kylo or Makayla. Those two were suspicious back then."

"So you were lucky."

"Yes I was."

"What if the killer is a very good actor and can perform the faces very well?" Autumn asked. "Well then, look for something different about him or her. The body position, how they act around other people during the day, then in the morning with the body. Anything that's different about them that they don't normally do. That's how you can tell if they are the killer or not."

"So you're saying is, do we have to observe and keep notes on the kids?" I ask.

"No, not technically, but watch what they do," he suggested.

Daniel is an expert at this. I'm starting to think that he's the killer. But he couldn't be, could he? Daniel once was a great professional killer. I doubt he'd kill again, especially his friend. Maybe the others, but would he kill Kylo? Especially that brutal? I don't know. I can't trust no one anymore, not even my closest friends. Who knows anymore, this is what the games do to people, can't trust anyone, not even your closest friend or friends. I look up to know that we have the room to ourselves. Everyone has gone to do their own thing.

Which is good. I don't want any of them to think we are pointing fingers at any of them, or being suspicious. Which by now, everyone should be.

"How else can we tell who is the killer?" Ethan asked just to be sure.

"They will be scanning the room or area for victims, paying close attention to how their prey would act out in front of people."

"You know, you should've been a homicide detective, Daniel." I suggest. He describes almost anything on how we can tell who the serial killer is. "I know I should, but I was a murder for those two weeks and know just about anything that would work inside the maniac's head, not how a cop would work." he explained.

"I'm starting to think you are the killer." Autumn said. "And I don't know how I feel about that." We laughed at her enthusiastic tone. "I was a killer, Autumn and you're still friends with me."

"I know, but I barely know Daniel as I know you better than ever."

"It's fine. Then, no one knew me either, so they didn't suspect me, ever. Not one person thought I was the killer for one second."

"Who did they think?" I asked.

"Diana, George, and I believe Jane."

"Oh, so not many people then."

"No."

Finishing my water, I got up to refill as we continued. This is very interesting because we can get some kind of information on who's the killer. "You know what I just realized, is that there may be a pattern between the victims." I say, returning to my seat at the table.

"What is it?" Autumn asked.

"The first two nights were male, but the third night a female came into the picture, not being sexiest here, but since then it's been male, female. Male, female. Get where I'm going? It's only the sixth day since we've been here, but if my predictions are right, tonight it's going to be a female." I will explain.

"I never thought of that. I knew the killer had a soft spot for the girls and not boys, but I never saw it that way. Now we kind of have an idea who may die tonight." Daniel said.

"Who do we have? We have my daughter, Kyra, Izzy, Karen, Autumn, Makayla, and Vivian. That's not a lot." Ethan listed. "How many is that? Seven?" Autumn said recounting them with her fingers. "Yeah, that's seven." Daniel filled in.

"How many males are there? There's you two, plus Jaydon, Daylan, Cory. That's five." I say. "Which of us left."

"If one person goes each night, then that leaves . . . four people standing and leaving, which includes the killer." Ethan afformed. "Same as twenty years ago, there were four of us standing, not including Autumn because we all believed she died, sorry Autumn. But including you, there would be five standing."

"We'll stick with the people who are dead, or to believe to be. So if someone is alive right now, we won't count them because they are meant to be dead." Ethan replied.

"So what have we figured out so far?" Autumn interjected.

"We know how to tell if someone is the killer by their body language and act around others, we know that the killer has a soft spot for females and violence and hatred for males, and that there's a pattern for females and male, so far."

"If we keep this up, we will figure out who and possibly live to the end. Technically, we have another week and one night." I say.

A phone rang as we each pulled ours out. Daniel's is ringing to an unknown caller ID. Nine six two numbers, knowing it's from our area, he pressed the answer and put it on the speaker phone. All of us stayed quiet as Daniel answered.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Daniel, and the rest of you."

The raspy, deep voice filled the air. Everyone is silent. "Who are you?" Daniel eventually asked, not wanting to know.

"It's your friendly neighborhood killer."
