Chapter twenty three
Killer's POV
"What do you want?" he heard Makayla yell into the phone.
"To warn you that no matter what you do, I will always be one step ahead of you. You'll never catch me even if you have two of you as a killer before."
He'd been listening to their conversation earlier on how to tell if someone is a mass serial killer. But he's smart enough to keep one step ahead of them. As he likes to keep it that way until the end. "Just to let you know, you will never make it out of here alive."
He laughed a horrendous laugh before ending the call. He let himself calm down before continuing with what he was doing before, although it's her turn to kill tonight, he's got some idea on who to kill. Those adults think they know who he is, and she.
She.
The lovely female killer.
He smiled at the thought of her, capable of that kind of tremendous killing spree for the women.
Looking out the window of his room, he saw Kyra and Kylie together. Talking. He wondered what she was doing. Tonight he will visit her whether she likes it or not. Hopefully this time it will work, hoping she won't leave him alone. Stranded outside like last time. He viewed Kyra very closely. The room is dark so she won't notice him. Something about her doesn't seem right for some odd reason. Like she's hiding something. From him.
They stopped right in front of his window, laughing she looked up at the window where he sat on the ledge. She stared into his cold, careless eyes. She continued her way. He didn't care if she saw him or not.
He left the counter, walking out of the room. Walking through the pod, into the hallway, into the front, then heading outside. With his hood up. He walked towards where they were coming. The girls ran into him, keeping his head held down. Passing him, he moved on until he felt a hand on his shoulder. Jumping, the killer turned around seeing Kyra right in front of him.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm okay."
"You sure, you seem concentrated on something."
Yes I am concentrating on something. Finding my victim!
"No . . . just bored." His heart started skipping a beat. "Okay, well if you need anything, Kylie and I are going on the other side, on the hill."
"Okay."
He turned and left her, waiting a few seconds before glancing over his shoulder. He watched her disappear around the corner. The killer doesn't want her hurt, hoping she won't kill her tonight. Wandering around the corner, the killer spots his victim for tomorrow night. He hid around the corner, spying his prey.
Autumn's POV
Autumn walked down the hall scared for her life. Remembering at this very spot, outside the library is where she died. "Died."
Remember it clearly of what happened. It scared her that she was getting attacked from behind and felt useless, only the scream could save her.
-
As Autumn walked down the hall, she heard someone come from behind, footsteps. Turning around, terrified, no one was behind. Coming up to the library door, she felt a hand come to her mouth holding her back against the killer. Slamming her into the ground, she saw him. Who he is.
He pinned her down, stabbing her at the side letting the blood drizzle out. She finally let out a scream loud enough for everyone to hear. He stabbed one more time before getting up ready to run. "Ethan." her raspy voice barely to be heard.
He ran where he came from letting her die there. "Ethan." She tried calling him but her voice was hardly heard. The others came running, Makayla being the first one.
"Oh my god!" she screamed, falling to her knees. "No Autumn. Not poor Autumn."
"What happ- whoa." she heard Kylo say.
"Autumn got stabbed." Hunter replied.
"Whoever did this to her, is going to die." threatened Harper. "Harper, Makayla come here" Autumn said in her dying breath. They ran admittedly to her side. "I don't want to die" she said gasping for air. "Go get a blanket Hunter!" shouted Harper "We can still save her!" Autumn just smiled and said, "when I die put me in the forest"
"Don't say that!" Hunter came rushing in with a blanket and wrapped it around her wound. He held it tight there and took off his belt and wrapped it tightly around her above her wound. Then he said "Makayla go to the office and see if there is anything to close up the wound!"
"There's nothing, not a thread or needle." Makayla panicked when he came back.
Hunter grabbed her wrist. He frowned. "She is only pumping 10 per minute, I doubt she's going to live."
"I . . . know who . . . the killer is."
"Who Autumn." She breathed her last breath, then she's gone. Or so they thought. What better way to fake death and get out of there. She heard everyone mourn for her, grieve for her. Staying as still as she could and trying not to breath as much, they lifted her onto the blanket and wrapped her up.
Once they dumped her into the dumpster, they closed the lid and left, she found a piece of clothing from the decomposing corpse and wrapped it around her wound. She lifted up the lid after a couple of minutes, scanning to make sure it's safe. She jumped out, landing on her side trying to hold back the scream. Running to the house across from the school, she kept glancing everywhere. Knocking and ringing the bell, they finally answered as she asked for help. They let her in as the husband called the police.
Soon enough she went to the hospital and got the treatment. Since then she kept her identity safe and away from the others.
-
Until now. The game master lied to them before as they couldn't leave or they'd die. If that was real, then how come she's still alive? Sitting on the bench outside the library, Ethan walked down the hall to meet her, and sat beside Autumn on the bench.
"Why did you do this to me?"
"I don't know, just did."
"You didn't succeed."
"I know, or you wouldn't be here. I was in such a rush that I didn't know if I would make it or not."
"I don't know how you got away with without anyone seeing you." Ethan shrugged his shoulders. "Magic I guess."
Daniel's POV
Watching on the hill, someone called his name. Another name. He looked all around, no one. Someone called again, it became clearer. Scanning the area, he looked over his shoulder and saw a child running towards him with a woman trailing behind.
Noticing that it's his family. "Daddy!"
He opened his arms for her to run into. "Daddy!"
Lily ran into him, knocking him over. "Daddy I missed you."
"I missed you too." Maya came up from behind and hugged him, kissing his cheek. Turning, Daniel wrapped his arm around his wife's shoulders, pulling her in. "I missed you Daniel." she said, kissing him. "Me too."
"When are you coming home?" Lily asked with a sweet tone mixed with sadness. "Next Tuesday, hopefully."
"What do you mean hopefully?" Lily asked.
"I will come back next week. It's way too long for me to be away from my family. Even when I'm at work. It's too long."
"Where do you sleep?"
Maya rested her head on his shoulder. "In a classroom, want to come see?"
"Sure." Lily jumped up in delight. They stood up walking towards the school, Daniel wrapped his arm around Maya's waist.
Entering the school, they met up with Makayla who was washing her hands in the washroom sink. "Hey Makayla."
"Hey Maya, how's it going?"
"Good and you."
"Good. Hey Lily, nice to see you again."
"Hi."
They continued to walk down the hall to the front foyer. Daniel opened his door to a neat room. "Wow." Lily went in looking all around. She ran onto the couch to curl into the blankets.
"You sleep here? On the couch?"
"Everyone does, we each have a classroom and a couch to sleep on. Emparrently, when the others were playing games back then, some had to sleep on the floors. So I'm not complaining."
"That's nice that everyone gets a couch to sleep on and not the dirty floor."
"It sure is."
Daniel and Maya stood by the door watching their little girl. "Can I stay here tonight with you daddy?"
"No you can't."
"Why not?"
"Because . . . you just can't."
He walked over to her, picked her up and hugged her as tight as he could. "You do know I love you with all my heart. I just don't want you hurt." Lily wrapped her arms around his neck. "I love you too." She kissed him on the cheek. Lily rested her head on his shoulder ready to fall asleep. He missed holding her in his arms as a baby. Cuddling her into his warm body. Being there when her cries echoed through the house. Now she's in his arms once again. "Do you want me to take her?" Maya whispered. He shook his head mouthing the word, no. Rocking her back and forth, Maya leaned against him. He sat down, inviting her. Maya sat beside him, curling up.
He misses this. Daniel loved all of it before Lily came along. After she came along, their lives got better. Caring for her, helping her along the way. As she gets older, it'll be difficult, especially in the teenage stage, but it will be worth it. Daniel wants to be there for her, but at this rate, he might not.
Soon enough, they fell asleep on each other.
