Chapter nineteen

Jaydon's POV

After getting off the phone with his parents, Jaydon headed to lunch and met Kyra there. Walking down the hall to the food room, something felt odd for some reason. Jaydon doesn't know what or why, it just does. Entering the room, Kyra sat at a table alone on her phone waiting. She looked up, smiled a warm smile, and tucked her phone in her pocket. He returned the smile.

"Hey." she welcomed, standing up.

"Hi."

Jaydon walked over to her, ready to grab lunch. She joined him into the kitchen, scanning the fridge for anything. "So, how's it going?" she asked.

"Nothing much, you?"

"Same."

She leaned against his shoulder, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah . . . just tired."

"Didn't get much sleep?"

She looked at him and nodded. He closed the fridge once he took out two water bottles and fruit. Kyra washed the fruit as Jaydon cut them up into a bowl, then took it to one of the tables and ate. Picking the fruit from the bowl, they chatted about Jesse's death this morning. "I heard Izzy's been grieving all day, didn't even talk to her friends." Kyra said in a sad tone. "I know, poor girl."

Just as they are talking, Izzy comes storming in terrified. Jaydon and Kyra jump and look at Izzy, as she's a mess. "Izzy, are you alright?" Jaydon asked.

"No! I just got a phone call from the killer and received four knocks on my door. Four knocks! When I opened the door, no one was in view in the pod. I'm being tormented by the killer!"

Jaydon and Kyra looked at each other before looking back they could see the terror in her eyes, in her actions, in her words. Jaydon knows she's a terrible person, but she doesn't deserve this. Izzy broke down in front of them, sobbing. It felt awkward for the two of them as they didn't know what to do. "I don't want any of you to tell anyone. It's already hard for all of us to cope with the dead people."

"We won't." Jaydon assured her.

"Thanks."

Izzy finally calmed down, stood up and left the room without a word. Jaydon and Kyra looked at each other, scared. Before continuing on from where they were before getting interrupted, Kyra looked down at her legs before looking up at him. There is something behind those eyes of hers that she's not telling him. Something that he needs to know.

Makayla's POV

I wandered around the courtyard, pondering. The deaths of the people are different somehow. But I don't know. The deaths in the male is so violent that we could almost vomit. As for the two females, it's been non- vomiting. For the next female, who knows how the death will be? Who will it be?

I stopped at the bottom of the hill, staring off into the distance of the world beyond. How I'm probably not going to make it out alive. I also know that all of the original survivors aren't going to live. Mayabe the four of us, but not the six.

I sat down on the hill, hugging my legs. A tall and thin man with ruffled hair walked along the sidewalk, spotted me alone. He stopped scanning the area then walked towards me. I felt uneasy from him but what could go wrong.

"Can I help you?" I asked.

"No, you seem lonely out here. What are you doing out here anyways?"

"I'm here, and others, for the murder games."

"Oh that's right. I forgot about that."

Something about him makes me feel uneasy and squirmish. Standing right infront of me, we eyed each other. "Whatcha doing out here?" I ask.

"Taking an afternoon stroll."

"How's that going?"

"Good, a nice day to go for a walk."

"Sure is."

"I'm Nik Comber."

"Makayla Flores, nice to meet you." We shook hands. I stood up tucking my hands in my sweater pockets. "Who else is here with you?"

"Well there's Autumn, my daughter, Ethan, some teens who I don't know and Daniel. We've already had five people die."

"Daniel?"

"Yeah, Daniel. A friend of mine and my husband. Or was until he . . ."

"I'm sorry, but . . . what's his last name?" Nik was acting weird and very suspicious. I believe it's Copperstone. Why?"

"No reason, just curious." His silvery eyes sent shivers down my spine. A glint of sparkle in his silvery eyes also made me feel warm. My gut tells me that he's bad news, but there's something about him that must seem nice. Not one of us said anything, but kept a locked gaze on one another. A hand was placed on my shoulder as I jumped and looked to see Daniel standing there. I placed a hand on my heart.

"You scared me."

He looked up and met eyes with Nik. "Umm . . . hey Nik. Long time no see."

"Hey, Daniel." Nik said with a harsh tone.

"You two know each other?" I say, looking at both men.

"Yeah, years ago." Daniel said. "Look, we better get going, there's a meeting that we need to have right now and everyone needs to be there."

"Even the dead?"

"Not funny, Nik." Daniel said. Grasping my shoulder, we turned and walked away from him. As soon as we were a few feet away from Nik, I asked Daniel. "What's the meeting about?"

"We don't have a meeting." he said looking over his shoulder. "Why did you lie to Nik?"

"Absolute no reason."

"Please tell me."

"Fine. Let's just say that he and I had a very difficult, and unpleasant past."

"Nothing more?"

He glanced down at me shaking his head. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulled me in and walked towards the school. There's something he's not telling me. The way he lied to Nik wasn't okay. Daniel's hiding something and I want to know.

Daniel's POV

He walked towards his room as his pace quickened as every question sprung into his head. How did Nik escape jail?

Is his time up already?

Why is he here?

What was he doing with Makayla outside?

It scared him, also very concerned for her. Walking into his room, Daniel closed the door behind him. But what's waiting for him on one of the tables surprised him with shock. There, all neatly and folded on a table, were his old killer clothes when he went on a killing spree many years before. Walking slowly to the table, Daniel picked them up and scanned them.

"I was sure they were in the box locked up." he murmured. After flipping the clothing and weapons around, a paper fell out from between. Daniel picked it up and read it.

I know all you dirty little secrets. You can't hide from me or the truth. You can't hide the truth from her. She will know at some point.

Be aware, watch your back. I 'm watching your every move.

From,

The Game Master

Staring at the paper in shock Daniel stood there motionless.

He ran out of the room, heading outside to throw everything in the dumpster. Daniel didn't care if there were decomposing bodies there. He found this creepy. Chucking the clothing and weapons he owned in the dumpster, then heading back to school. "I swear someone busted in our home and stole-"

"Hey Daniel." Autumn interrupted him.

"Hey, Autumn."

"So, what's up?"

"Nothing much, other than I met my enemy from years ago, and found my killer clothing weapons from years ago, too."

"Oh, well . . . that must be very nice."

"Sure is."

"While I found you, want to do something? I'm bored and don't know what to do?"

"Sure, as long as it doesn't involve me doing something stupid."

"It won't. I promise."

He took Autumn and they headed out to the library. Taking out Yahtzee holding it up for her, she nodded. They sat down at a table setting the game up.

Daniel started the game, getting a full house in the first turn. Writing the total down, Autumn took her turn. Each taking turns, they played until the end filling every box. Once at the end, they counted their points.

Autumn is winning the game.
