Chapter Two

You stared after Comus in shock. Instinctively, your hand went to you cheek as you watched him leave the room. He turned around with a sly grin and said cockily, "Why don't you take a picture? It'll last longer love!"

Rolling your eyes, you glared at him and told him that would only happen if pigs fly. Pouting jokingly, he turned back around and walked down the stairs.

Sighing lightly, you closed the door and threw yourself on your bed. An image of a familiar dark haired Italian boy flickered through your mind. You smiled as you recalled the time he brought a spider into the first room at Mary's house and you had flipped out and almost killed him. You're still very much afraid of spiders, but being immortal now lowered the phobia just a tad.

Your eyes felt heavy as time progressed, leaving you exhausted from the long, warm sunny day. Slowly, you felt yourself drifting off to sleep.

"Please! Don't hurt them!" The wind howled as you cried out, tears streaming down your malnourished face. You saw the giant laugh lowly as he grasped your friends even tighter in his hands. Your breath caught in your throat as you heard their screams for mercy when Polyphemus crushed their skulls in his hands like grapes.

Tears poured out of your eyes like rain. You couldn't help but sob as the memory of your friends dying before you kept replaying in your head. 'Why couldn't I save them?' you thought as you watched Polyphemus approach you.

He picked you up roughly and brought you towards his face. He cackled lowly as he watched your tear-streaked face turn to absolute terror. "Not so strong now, are to you little god?" he questioned as his breath hit your face. You gagged as the putrid smell reached your nose.

A blinding light is what caught your attention as you recovered from the giant in need of a mint's taunt. "Mom?" you whispered gently as you saw Athena herself stand before you. Her cool gaze met yours with distaste.

"You are no daughter of mine," she replied as she narrowed her eyes and blasted Polyphemus with a ray of light. Tears brimmed your eyes as the giant dropped you to the stony ground.

Gasping for breath, you saw your mother land before you, Polyphemus slain. She sneered down at you, her eyes murderous. "Mom?"

"Do not call me by that name! If you were my daughter, you wouldn't have failed me!" Athena snarled as she drew a knife from her side and looked down at you. The silver weapon glinted as it was twirled between the goddess' fingertips. "Now, be a good girl and take your punishment."

Your eyes widened as you tried to get up off the ground and away from the goddess. "Mom, please! No! Stop!" You screamed as the goddess appeared behind you and began to carve your skin, ignoring the sound of your screams.

"No!" you screamed as you sat up in bed abruptly and clenched the sheets to your body. Panting, you looked down and realized it was just a nightmare. Relief flooded through you as you got out of bed and walked over to the window. Peeking from behind the curtain, you saw the sun begin to rise and you smiled softly.Shifting into an owl, you flew threw the window and onto the roof to watch the sunrise.

Colors of pink, orange, and yellow chased away the dark inky sky of the night as the sun began to rise slowly. A gentle breeze blew by and in that moment, everything was perfect.
