Chapter 4
All that I can say is that it was terrifying. I stood transfixed by the Pokemon in front of me. A small shard of memory remembered that if you saw an odd keystone anywhere, bad luck was sure to follow. Legend was, that 108 evil spirits made up a spiritomb. Every time a spirit bad enough is sent to spiritomb, the one who had been there the longest is dismissed, and reborn as another Pokemon. But it was just legend. Or so I thought.
Spiritomb resembled a purple vortex, surrounded by green circles. A sharp yet distant laugh snapped me back to reality. I clench my teeth at the amused look on his face, but was silent. "Ohoho," his voice was rough and harsh, but still strong. "this is the one? Should've chosen one worthwhile to start all this, I do say. Though, who am I to complain?" He cackled, sounding like two voices instead of one. "I'd love to watch you attempt to save o'l icy, but I can't have little wild cards like you running around unchecked. Aye, you'll have to leave it to your friends. Though, I do say you probably cannot use your powers, if you have not used them yet." His face contorted into a frown. "Aye, but I sense them on you. Very interesting indeed. I suppose we will have to force the answers out of you, aye?"
A stirring in a bush caught my attention. Cynder must be waking up. Unfortunately, spirtomb noticed too. I quickly rammed against the vines to gain his attention. I need more time. "I won't tell you." I growled, even though I knew I didn't have the answers at all.
He chuckled. I shuddered. Okay, that's just creepy, I'd rather they cackle. "That's what they all say, and aye, believe me, we certainly got the answers out of 'em."
I clench my teeth. "My friends will rescue me."
Immediately, I knew I'd made a mistake. A wide grin spread across his face. "Your friends, eh? Why don't we get the answers outta ya right now? Bring 'em out!"
A sableye came out of a bush, dragging a limp blue body. Cynder. My vision blurred. "Now," said spirtomb, "tell us, and your friend doesn't get hurt."
Cynder moaned and rolled over, and the sableye's claws grew to a foot. Some instinct deep in my mind told me this was shadow claw. My joints tensed. "Never."
Spirtomb looked at me quizzically, then said, "Very well. See if this changes your mind. Go ahead Linger, just no mauling... yet."
The sableye named Linger grinned evilly and raked his claws down Cynder's side. He screamed and his eyes opened, white from pain. Then he slumped and went limp again. The world flashed white. When it returned, I saw things that weren't there before.
Everything was frozen in time. I saw right though the surrounding Pokemon. Cynder had a ball of black light inside his chest. Multi coloured light came to and from it, pulsing around his body, though most of it went towards a spot of white where he had been scratched. Along his stomach, a faintly glowing circle of red stood. Inside his head was a pulsing red light. But my attention was on spiritomb. A grey stump was visible through the crack in the rock. The odd keystone itself was glowing red. I felt evil radiating off of him. But also, a faint pain like a headache that wouldn't go away.
Suddenly, everything flashed white again. All of the extra stuff disappeared. But my vision was amazing. One glance at Cynder made anger flare up like a forest fire. "Now it's your turn." I hiss.
The only way I could explain it is like I was controlling my mind, but from somebody else's body. I saw through my eyes, but I couldn't feel or control myself moving. The vines around my feet froze instantly, then snapped as easily as a twig. A ball of blue formed in front of my open mouth and grew to four times it's size. A beam of pure ice launched at spiritomb, engulfing his entire body. Pokemon nearby were blasted back. When the dust and steam cleared, the odd keystone was layered with ice. So were some of the nearby Pokemon. For some reason, most of the Pokemon were gone. Gengar grabbed the keystone, and rode away on his gassy steed.
I spot Cynder, rush over, and put my paw on his side, then breath out in relief. He's breathing and everything. Right about then, my legs clonked out from underneath me, and I slip into a much less painful world.
